My leveling elementalist noticed that agaisnt completely solo creatures, even immovable ones like giant wurms, a phoenix aimed right behind a mob will hit 5 times, 5 “low” damage values and 1 higher. That’s not how it should work right?

It hits a total of 3 times when you target it behind the mob
-once when travelling through it
-once for explosion damage (main bulk of damage)
-once when travelling back to you

Not quite right, it seems to tick damage as it travels if it is positioned properly and with a bit of luck you can get multiple of those damage ticks to hit the target as it passes through it. 3 hits total is an expected number but more are definitely possible.

Phoenix is buged sometimes it hits 5 times instead of 3. Thats because of the hit box projectile of the phoenix. Actually when you hit 5or 4times is because the phoenix hit box has been created on the mob.

So… lets count the number of hot if you put a phoenix behind the target:
1 little hit because of the phoenix is going on the target.
1 big hit because of the explosion of the phoenix.
—> phoenix disapears to be recreated to come to you…
1 little hit because of the worng reaparition of the phoenix which is count like the phoenix is going to your target.
1 little hit because of the worng reaparition of the phoenix which is count like the phoenix is going to you.
1 little hit because phoenix is going to you.

==> results kittens ( 4 little and 1 big )

Ok, that’s an explanation but it does feel rather random XD

The small hits are around half the power of the explosion so having phoenix double dip on those is 50% more damage than “normal”.
