How have eles changed in the past 8 months?

I haven’t been playing much since around the beginning of September and just started again. I’d appreciate it if people filled me in on the following:

1. Significant changes to our class (I’ve noticed new skills/traits and runes changed)
2. What builds are now meta (order of importance: pve/fotm/wvw/pvp)
3. What builds were destroyed
4. A small question about ascended armor: Is it time gated with some daily craft? I see some places mention it’s time gated, but many sites/guides don’t mention anything about it and wiki doesn’t say anything on the item pages

This is a hefty amount of information, but if anyone could fill me in on at least part of it, please what you have to say. Thank you in advance to anyone who responds

Honestly, not a lot has changed.

The meta build for D/D is still 0/0/2/6/6
The meta build for Staff in WvW is still: 0/0/2/6/6
The meta build for scepter is still Fresh Air builds (varied)

In fact, the only thing that’s really ‘changed’ is that some of the hidden rules on abilities like cleansing Water and Signet of Restoration have been reversed for spvp.

so…. the biggest ‘change’ is that spvp is now a lot like wvw. Which means all those old builds which used to work… work again! Yaaay!

krazyFlyingChicken is mostly right.

Most of the changes to the ele have been less about the ele and more about changes to other things.

Rune changes have allowed the ele to be more of a force, combined with a few nerfs to the thieves. Lyssa rune nerf and rune of strength buff. The buff allows ele to easily get to 25 stacks of might. One of the new build is d/f with rune of strength and celestial amulate with cantrips and signet of restoration.

The biggest change however is the fact that they significantly buffed the Celestial Amulet which open a lot of doors for a few other builds to shield.

I mean thanks to the changes for the first time since last june, an elementalist was was used in a tournament finals.

tl;dr

ele no major buff directly.
ele buff by changes to the rune and a few nerfs to other classes.

As u know im pro. ~Tomonobu Itagaki

This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.

Has it already been 8 months since fresh air trait was released? Everything is correct. All the builds Daphonix made popular are still meta up to this date specially for d/d. Best way for you to get informed is to read the Elementalist section from each patch note you missed.

I laughed really hard at this, by the way. Thank you for making my evening :P

the meta may still be 0/x/x/6/6 but i feel like the recent changes have made a lot of alternate builds more viable and fun.

6/0/0/4/4
5/0/2/3/4
0/3/2/5/4
0/3/6/3/2
0/2/2/4/6

all very effective builds i run depending on how i want to play that day or what my team needs.

In PvE, a lot of players have moved onto more offensive builds. I still think the bunkery builds are useful for learning the class and encounters, however, as running a glassy Ele is very difficult, especially if you PUG.

If you’re going for something with a lot of offense in PvE, I’d suggest this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQJAotAtM4jEQAwCHAWAHAxpgMQNE-TRROwAjU+BY/Bi6JAr+jMlgiCKjA-e

The heal can be what you think is good for the situation. Arcane Brilliance for more offense, Signet for more general sustain, Ether Renewal if you need Condi Cleanse, Glyph if you want a general heal.

The two other utility slots depend on the situation. Good ones include:
-Signet of Fire – More crit chance
-Conjure Lightning Hammer – Spammable blast finisher and blind. Change Ember’s Might to Conjurer if you use this
-Conjure Frost Bow – Good for a nice bit of burst AoE damage on an area. Good for creatures with large hitboxes, large trash pulls, and objects.
-Arcane Shield – Defensive spell if you need one
-Mist Form – Defensive spell if you need another one after Arcane Shield
-Cleansing Fire/Armor of Earth – Slotted for when you really need condi removal/stability for a certain encounter. Situational utilities.
-Glyph of Elemental Power – For creative players. Use the Water effect to apply high Chill uptime to an enemy that needs to be kited around a bit or slowed down. The air one for high Weakness uptime is also very useful in certain situations.
-Glyph of Storms – Use the earth one to spam blinds on trash in an area.
-Lightning Flash – When you need a teleportation effect.
-SIgnet of Air – When running around in the open world or running to the next place in a dungeon.

The runes can be Strength or Scholar. Strength is better in bad groups, Scholar is better in good groups. Scholar is cheaper.

Sigils can be stuff like: Force, Night, Slaying, Battle, Strength, Accuracy, Energy. Figure out what works for you and the kind of groups you play with. Force+Night/Slaying is what people do for max damage. Force+Accuracy is a decent general bet. Force+Battle in a PUG situation. Battle+Strength for basically always 25 might on yourself. Battle+Energy for bad PUGs.

The last two trait points can go into:
-Earth – Stone Splinters for max damage
-Water – Vital Striking for a damage modifier, and the added benefit of the 5-point water regen trait.
-Arcana – For Renewing Stamina for 100% Vigor Uptime

Gear is always Berserker everything.

The way the build plays is by spamming Lightning Whip and using the other 3 attunements for utility and burst and blast finishers. Keep up Might and Fury by blasting in your fire fields a lot.

Ya if your only able to work with builds that other ppl make up the meta has not changed one bit why would ppl changes there builds even if they added new things to ele?

Any way there are new builds out there and run counter to the meta but a lot of ele players do not like to give away there builds. So a lot changed about ele but your going to have to work out for your self how to best use it.

Jski: it’s easy to try out a lot of builds since the trait refund is free \o/

I think the ele has lots of good builds and a lot of variety. Try them all!

Any build for any class will function for PvE, so long as you can dodge and deal damage. So that isn’t saying much of anything.

In PvP, Eles have nothing that contributes to a win but bunkers, but then again hardly anybody else does either. That’s what happens when you have a win condition that is 99% sitting inside a circle and refusing to die.

As for WvW, in roaming, if you don’t go bunker, you are going to get wiped, over and over again. Thank-you ANet for making us the only class with zero defense anywhere but four utilities, a handful of traits in two trees, and a couple healing skills. It really helps our build diversity.

Not a lot has changed really – the new traits haven’t really made any impact at all. Anyone serious about performing well in PVP/WVW still specs 20+ water, 20+ arcane and 2-3 cantrips.

downed state is bad for PVP

I like the build you are talking about. I’ve wondered how it would translate for WvW (zerging). With some alternations if needed, of course. Any opinion on that?

Hi, I’m new GW2 player, what is this 0/0/2/6/6 build I heard here for PVE ?

I usually see a lot of Fire focused builds.

Thanks.

There’s no such meta build for PvE. For WvW/PvP however…
