I am trying to get into Elementalist. So far, unsuccessful. Just haven’t found the right play style yet.

Anyway, I am wondering about Conjuring weapons. Are they important ? Are they good ? Are they big parts of builds for WvW or dungeon runs ?

Or are they just for PvE fun that most ppl don’t use in serious gameplay.
Thanks

Somewhere in between. They can be part of a build, the focus of a build but you can also play well enough without them.

lightning hammer and fiery greatsword are huge parts of pve. an ele without an fgs in dungeons is an abomination. ill list the places you use it below (this is just what I remember off the top of my head – there are probably more):

ac: all paths: spider queen and kholer
ac: p3: last boss
coe: all paths: subject alpha (multiple appearances)
se: p1: first and last bosses
se: p3: personnel carrier and last boss
cof: p1 & p2: slave driver
ta: up: malrona &/or fyonna
ta: fwd: laurent
cm: (cant quite remember which paths): boss in the tunnels who throws the aoe bombs
arah: all paths: lupi, usually in p3

the lh is used in the meta build for stacking bosses/adds when you cant back thrm into a wall. fgs is used when you can back them into a wall.

sry for spelling – typing from phone

Yes conjures are helpful in various and numerous situations. The axe is yet to reveal its strength though.
The only problem is that using a conjured weapon is a heresy to our class mechanics.
Anyway you should experiment with all of them and learn how they give us specialisation possibilities.

Conjured weapons are currently the only way to (albeit temporarily) get around the range lock problem we have during combat.

Also, ice bow 3 is good for brief CC (chill), 4 is good for spike AoE damage, and 5 is an excellent stun.

Ice bow is compulsory for ACp1 and ACp3. Other than that its uses are limited.

Lightning Hammer is the strongest autoattack in the game, as far as I know, and is one of the only high powerscale damage attacks available to Eles. Stacking 25 might first using combinations followed by using those stacks with Lightning Hammer is without exception the most devastating tactic a PvE elementalist may use. Its Static Field can also be blasted allowing non staff wielders to give a group, or more notably NPCs area swiftness, which speeds up a lot of dungeons. The disadvantage of relying on it is that many players don’t understand the powerscale mechanic and pick up your second hammer, effectively sabotaging group DPS for their own vanity, and follow up by using irrelevant skills on the Hammer.

The FGS in comparison is not used so much for its auto but for its whirl attack when used in place, as Anierna mentioned.

Flame Axe is used in applications where you want to Lightning Hammer but can’t survive the counterattack, like say the Risen Priest of Melandru. It centres around fire fielding, and blasting the fire field with its own attack, then stacking more might through autoattacking. Personally i prefer Lightning Hammer with Invulnerability from Arcane Shield/Earth Focus 5.

Ele, like all classes, requires that you are able to “click” with the mechanics and intuitively understand them. The Ele has a rather steep learning curve (really, the attunement-swapping is confusing; I’d suggest binding them to something easier like ctrl-something rather than f1-4), but honestly, once you learn it, it actually becomes a pretty middle-of-the pack class in terms of ease of use.

For example, for the life of me, I can’t get into the “flow” of play for a Thief or Mesmer. I have an easier time with the Guardian and Engineer, for whatever reason.

Conjures are what I would call an Alternate Playstyle for the Elementalist. What I mean is that they open up a whole new way to play the class (much like Mantra Mesmer or Venom Thief or Minion Master Necromancer, regardless of how good/bad these specs are). They are NOT like Kits for the Engineer, which the class was more or less designed around (for the Engineer, non-kit builds are actually the Alternate Playstyle).

For the Elementalist, I would seriously look into trying a build with lots in Arcane and playing around with that. That seems to be where the class is most fluid. In my signature, I list some builds to play around with, and the old bunkery specs are still great fun to play on. They do subpar damage and aren’t meant for speedclearing dungeons, but for general play they’re great! Honestly, the thing I’d focus on right now is putting a lot into Arcane, picking up Elemental Attunement and Renewing Stamina, and seeing where that takes you. Equip Air Sig for running around (it’s great now that it’s a Blind/Stunbreak!), and play around with all the weapons to see what you like (I like D/D a lot for open world roaming and D/F for Dungeons).

Ultimately, what you need to do, with any class, is find how to play the class’ “rythm”. For some classes this is very straightforward (Warrior and Guardian, for instance), hence leading to their popularity. For others, it is completely non-intuitive (Engineer), and for others, many people actually probably NEVER step foot into the class’ mechanic and instead play a more straightforward Alternate playstyle that, while still valid and good, doesn’t really take full use of the class’ mechanics (Greatsword-autoattacking Phantasm Mesmers that never shatter, Elementalists that stay in only one Attunement). I wouldn’t want that to happen, which is why while I still respect that the “meta” builds, as they are so called for the Ele, rely on a rather interesting interaction between camping Water Attunement and spamming 1 on Lightning Hammer, you should know that there is far more to the Elementalist than this, and in your general play and leveling up, you should explore these to experience the class to its fullest!

Noone uses conjured weapons outside of PVE, except for the elite conjure and it’s mostly used for mobility.

A good chunk of the Ele population (myself included) think the whole concept of conjures is antithetic to the whole class: giving up 20 skills + utility slot for 5 other mediocre skills is just plain stupid design.

downed state is bad for PVP

Strongly disagree here: you can do very well in PvE without ever touching a conjured weapon. In the listed cases, they’re mostly used as crutches for eles/teams that need them.

Conjured weapons are currently the only way to (albeit temporarily) get around the range lock problem we have during combat.

There are other ways. Proper use of evasive arcana for example allows a staff ele to melee.
