Hey a newbie here, have some questions towards end-game gearing.

I went out and bought a full Ogden set of armor without doing my research.
Ogden stats are:
+power +vitality +condition damage

(1) +25 power
(2) +20% Might Duration
(3) +40 Power
(4) + 3% chance gain might when hit
(5) +90 Power
(6) + 5% damage while under effects of might

The Ele guide ive been reading
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Guide-Mastering-the-D-D-ele-3-13-12
Says I should be using a full knights armor with valkyrie jewels.

stats are
•Knight armor (Power, precision, toughness)
•valkyrie jewels (+ critical damage, vitality, power)

So alot more toughness and no +condition damage at all. Wondering if I should regear and get the knights set. Did I kitten myself? I find my survivability extremely low and feel like a glass cannon.

Also theres no such thing as a valkyrie jewel. Best a could find is an exquisite beryl jewel, which has
+25 power, +3% cit damge, +15 vitality.

Is this the right jewel?

Thanks.

Also on a side note I wanted to ask about accessories.
In that same guide they talk about these items:

•Karka Shell (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ancient_Karka_Shell)
•Ascended Triforge (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Triforge_Pendant_
•Ascended Solaria/Lunaria (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Solaria,_Circle_of_the_Sun)
•Ascended power,toughness, crit dmg (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rurik%27s_Royal_Signet_Ring)
•Ascended Back
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Symon%27s_History_of_Ascalon

Ive been looking and these all seem really kitten hard to get, where as the armor is relativealy cheap. (25G for whole armor+gems, as compared to 500G just for triforge amulet.)

What is the best way of aquireing some of this stuff?

I am a very casual gamer and even getting 35 laurels for 1 would proboly take me 2-3 months realisticly.

1000 karka shells are you kidding me? lol I dont think that will happen

Maybe my answer is not getting this stuff and looking for cheaper alternatives.

Could you guys reccomend anything else that might work well?

Your stats right now are Power + Vit + Condition Damage

Power – this is a good stat as it increases your damage, however most stat distributions have it anyway.

Vitality – Decent for surviving burst damage. The problem with this is that our survivability comes through constant healing, especially in the 0/10/0/30/30 build that you saw. Vitality is just a buffer, but toughness actually makes your heals more effective, since each point of health is now harder to take away. If you stack both vitality and toughness you become stupidly hard to kill.

Condition Damage – It’s…okay. We can stack both burning and bleeding, however not at the same time due to the way attunements work. Precision is better because the D/D build has permanent +20% crit chance, and condition damage isn’t affected by crits.

What I would recommend you to do is to just buy everything, but with rare (yellow) items. This costs a fraction of what exotics would but the stat differences are negligible. Slowly do dungeons like Sorrow’s Embrace to get the power + precision + toughness gear (edit: with exotic stats)

The post which mentioned all the ascended-stat accessories is just a guide – the differences between exotic and ascended gear are small too. Unless you want to do fractals, the only way is to get save laurels up. However Anet has said they want to add more ways to get ascended items, but until then you (and I) are stuck with doing your daily achievements every day.

Another stat that I would recommend is healing power – this basically makes your heals stronger. Look for Power + Toughness + Healing power stats on items (not the one with vitality and condition damage- those suck).

Edit: Oh yeah you should mention what you plan to be doing, as WvW will demand a very different build and gear from general PvE and dungeons. What I typed just now is more to do with WvW, since the 0/10/0/30/30 build is best there.

If you are a very casual player then don’t try to go for ascanded items. Just go for exotic. The stat difference is not that big to really affect you that much. People writing such guides are usually hardcore gamers and they have a lot of time to get best items available.

This was very easy to get during the Karka event. It was a 100% drop and that is the reason lot of players have it.

I would just go with an exotic accessory from TP/Orr.

Yes, this one is expensive. But you can get one for 30 laures which shouldn’t be much even for a very casual players. Each daily will get you 1 and monthly is woth 10. Finishing a dialy is a matter of less than 20 minutes most of the time which is pretty fast.

You can run fractal 10 dailies to get those. They can drop if you are lucky or you can just buy them after doing 10 dailies.

If you don’t have time/patience for Fractals of the Mists, just buy exotic trinkets from Orr or from TP. Doing dailies for laurels will also give you lot of karma.

I would just get Cavalier’s Spineguard for 42K karma from Orr: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cavalier%27s_Spineguard .

I would recommend doing a daily every single day as it is really easy to do very quickly. If you have some more time do a FoTM daily. If you are short on time try to run at least CoF P1 to get some quick cash or do a few zone bosses for rares and a chance for exotic. Even with playing 30-60 minutes a day it is possible to get some ascended items and exotic items for rest of the slots.

condition damage is not a optimal setup for elementalists. other classes can do it much better without sacrificing so much for it.

eruption build is solid for pve, though.

Level 60 pvp
Ele & thief main (full ascended)
Down with the braindead faceroll classes.

TL;DR the gear you have is important but be mindful of guides and learn about thing for yourself also. Read the rest if you want info (the links also). Also you will get the gear with the stats you want in time do fractals and it will be less time.

Stats matter but with ele optimizing stats for power crit dps is so-so, and condition damage no matter the set is always there and you have a lot of it. So optimizing your stats on ele is a tricky game since we scale well with almost all stats (we actually scale marginally with crit damage and chance but that’s a whole other issue). So you don’t have to follow the guide to the letter and eventually will find the stats for your playstyle just by playing. There are 2 things you need to familiarize your self with both relating to math and reality stat optimization with crit damage and crit damage/chance dps increase table . Might want to read the post in Build chat – stats

Crit damage optimal dps weapons are conjures (greatsword, bow, and hammer in particular) and scepter Air 1 and 2

Ascended gear. Is worth getting not for the stats but the utility slots because as long as you don’t want to climb the tower that are fractals that gear can hold your magic find and gold% increase from mobs without you losing stats on the gear (those slots can also hold stats but its a small amount). So the real question is how new are you? Achievement Point Conversion Eventually our points will be converted making getting ascended gear easier an you have Laurels which while a grind are a good way to get the ascended gear you want.

Unless you’re a pure conditional damage Ele , use this:

1) Pow/Vit/Toughness on armor
2) Pow/Prec/Crit dmg on rings/accessories/back piece

choose runes/sigils/Staff/traits which suit your play style.
