How is Elementalist in PvP?
scepter eles are terrible in wvw
scepter eles in s/tpvp are mostly bursty spec, like , u kill enemys in 1 sec, but its difficult for new players to set up these combos
and u basically die in 1-2 hits w scepter
but its fun seeing enemys going down in 1 sec then complain about it in chat, so i play w scepter/dagger
(edited by Wyrden.4713)
Personally i would say scepter is not really that great in WvW if you compare it to the staff.
Scepter is a more single target weapon with a few good AOE abilities, but in WvW as an ele, you want as many AOE spells as you possibly can which is where the scepter struggles
The staff simply brings a lot of big high damage AOE attacks for those big fights, it also provides a bunch of CC with no target limit with the added fire/water fields where especially water fields are crucial in any real fight in WvW
Meteor shower alone on the staff is enough of a reason to ditch the scepter. A single use of this skill has the potential to hit 24*3 = 72 times with each hit causing massive damage and since this will be group fights, there is a high chance of a lot of them hitting.
It is also extremely rare you actually see someone using scepter/x in WvW
You could play with a scepter, you would be at more or less the same range as with a staff. The only problem you would have is lowering your effective DPS and utility to the rest of the team with your now very limited access to water fields
Feel free to disagree, this is my opinion and what i have personally observed through playing WvW
Ty for explanations:) I also have in mind sPvP, not just WwW. Anyway, i can go with staff, no problem for me, i just don’t like daggers much. How is survivability with a Staff? Is Air/Watter viable? Or should i run Watter/Fire (Earth)?
For sPvP, Ele is actually in a pretty good spot, in terms of tiers and power level!
Double dagger Celestial Ele is very strong and is either Meta or very near meta. You run 6 Arcana for Renewing Stamina, Elemental Attunement, and Evasive Arcana. You then take 6 in Water to ger MASSIVE AoE heals, and take Cantrip Mastery/Soothing Wave, Cleansing Wave, and Cleansing Water. Take 2 in Earth for Elemental Shielding. Celestial+Strength Rune+Battle Sigil+Doom Sigil. High team support with lots of boons, cleanses, healing, and might stacking.
Staff Ele can be run as a sort of pseudo-healer character. You play with a very similar trait array as the D/D Celestial build, taking Earth’s Embrace and Blasting Staff instead. Cleric’s amulet makes your heals massive, and the precious Water fields you put down can be coordinated to further sustain. You have great AoE CC. Take Energy Sigil and Renewal Sigil. Runes can be Monk, Dwayna, or Water.
Scepter is generally run as a Fresh Air burst build. Look up Zoose’s S/F guide on youtube. You basically take 30 in Air for Fresh Air and 30 Arcana for lots of attunement swapping and Evasive Arcana.
The thing about Ele, however, as you might notice from these builds, is that their PvP builds are generally:
-30 in Arcana taking Elemental Attunement and Evasive Arcana
-At least 2 Cantrips
Mind you, most classes have trait lines that they’re stuck to in any game mode, so this isn’t a problem unique to the Ele. However, the Ele is indeed quite viable in sPvP, and very strong for its ability to play:
-A burst DPS class (Scepter Zerker Fresh Air)
-A healer (Cleric’s Staff)
-A sustained jack-of-all-trades (Celestial Daggers)
Honestly, the Ele is in a good place in the meta right now.

Eles don’t work like others classes, the attunements aren’t weapons that you have to choose. You need all 4 elements (20skills) because you are squishy.
- Fire: burn/ high damage/power.
- Air: stun/ swifness/damage/blind.
- Earth: weakness/immobiliz/blast fields/toughness.
- Water: heal/chill/vulnerability.
Camping one or two elements is a bad idea. Eles aren’t one of the top classes to master for nothing.
In spvp elemental need 15 water or 30 arcane to survive damage. People use cantrips or focus to help negate damage. Arcane skills are great for burst specs.

thats not necessary. u can play s/d ele with no points in water and 1 point in arcana only.
(fury is necessary)
Well those one shot S/x build are not made to take damage :P.

I’m not a fan even in pve. Just by swaping attunements en for a second you get fury for you and your grp which is 20% extra crit chance.
Of course you can camp fire in pve if the other membres of your party can provid you with 25stacks of might, fury and protection.
Ty for all of your replys
Me Elementalist is only lvl 20 right now, but i can already see a full potential of the class. I’m just a bit concernd about Staff: aoe dmg is ok, not great, but ok, while single target dmg is like non existent. Daggers are great, but you have to be close to your target/s, Scepter is great single, but poor aoe.
So my question is: If i play with daggers i can do all: great aoe and great single target, while with scepter and staff i’m very limited. Scepters seems great for 1v1 fights, while staff is only good for aoe dmg and healing, but when you need to kill only one player, how do you manage to do that:P? Looks like impossible to me.
Also when you switch your Attunement often, don’t you loose your dps potential? I mean you can only put 2 × 6 traits and once 2 traits. So you can only focus on 2 magics, right? You can go full condi build but then you probably suck at Air and Water Attunement, you can go power, and then Earth and Fire both seems useless then and so on. Do you get my point?
Edit: Is this trait in Earth Magic real: XIII (Stone Heart): you cannot be criticaly hit when attuned to Earth. Omg, this is too good to be true :P Does it last all the time or only few seconds? Or nmb. XII: Maintain the passive effects of signets when you activat them.
Is Earth Magic a must have in PvP?
Sry for english …
for me elementalist in pvp ( i have more than 1k tournaments on it) is really good as a damage dealer if you have the right build and the right team . I usually play in pvp scepter focus berserker when my team need dps and we do quite well . Instead for other tasks ( tanking a point or roaming or bunkering ) i feel my engeneer much more effective and i think that ele can do some roles but other professions can do them a lot easier . Elementalist can do different things but for me, other than dps builds , other class can make the same tasks in an easyer and more effective way
u r wrong about these

I play full zerker strength runes DD with 3 arcane skills + lightning flash. 6/6/2/0/0
no cantrips and doing quite well

No cantrips? You sure? I’m pretty sure lighting flash is a cantrip.

true dat
selfowned xD
I meant it in a defensive utility way, cause I often use it rather offenisve, but yeah ofc its a cantrip
I’d go D/D in pvp. With the healing capabilities of D/D I feel a good D/D Elementalist is a force to be reckoned with.
I go D/D 60206 with blinding ashes, seem to be able to 1v2 quite easily but beating or not beating people all seems to depend on how fast their attackspeed is, how much I can dodge and if they’re able to give proper chase or CC me.
Eles can be the tide turners in a pvp match- I run a pvp celestial build- d/f – with runes of strength- I can beat most fresh air/dd/staff ele’s (it just depends on who outplays the other) & obliterate any thief – mesmers & bunker engineers I’m still working on…. when I didnt know how to play my ele in pvp, I ran fresh air- when I found a clue I played a more fun build & quickly received my magus title- in wvw I run a zerkier build since I cant afford to make celestial gear but I still use d/f
