I did not pick Elementalist...
It is not just you.
In a game where there was meant to be no dedicated healers or tanks, Ele had to strictly go both options just to survive, therefore making killing things a kitten load slower to boot.
A: Nope, I don`t think it`ll ever get fixed & therefore…
B: It is a core problem of this game, not the players.
P.S. I didn`t play tank or healer in Aion, Guild Wars, warcraft or any other game & yet in gw2 we`re forced to & even then, those tank/heal abilities get nerfed whack-a-mole™© style.

It’s not just you. pretty much all of us feel this way except for a few delusional freaks who still think this class is fine. They either secretly work for Anet and are trying to convince us the class doesn’t suck, or they’ve never played any other class and thus have nothing else to compare it to so they think it’s ok. It is not ok by any means in comparison to other classes.
I almost wonder if its a tactic. They nerf one profession to the ground to make players feel forced to raise another one.
They make more money the more you play.
Possibly. Pretty much everyone in my guild rerolled warrior. It does get kinda boring after awhile though. We’re all running the same spec. We’re practically unkillable because of how overpowered warrior is right now, and only get better in that spec when we’re together. It was more fun when we all played as something different, but it’s just not logical to play as anything besides warrior now because it is the golden child right now. Why kitten yourselves and play anything but the best? And currently warrior is the best at everything. that’s not opinion, that’s fact, which has been proven in multiple videos.
I find ele difficult in solo PvE. There was a learning curve, and it was awful at the beginning but now I’m familiar with using the class. However, story quests and Orr are sometimes overwhelmingly difficult for no good reason. I realized I may have to kite a lot, what with it being a mage-type profession, though I didn’t expect almost always kiting + low damage output. Either that or staff is awful for solo PvE; I don’t remember D/D, but I’ve just been waiting for dagger drops.
They just need to buff the reward to match the risk, atleast to a better degree.
League of Legends nailed this for the most part.
Playing Anivia for example takes a lot more work than other easier and effective champs, but my god can it be rewarding.

Does that work though?
Personally, I can`t stand playing alts (gw2 is the only game I`ve felt forced to) yet I still main my Ele. but because of the nerfs/awful bgs etc it just makes me realise the firm is at best bad/clueless & won`t improve, therefore I refuse to give them any monies.
As luck would have it, what they would of gained if they had done things right is sitting in the bank awating Wild Star release & possibly EQ, along with some good single & co-op games

The fact that the majority of posts on this forum are talking about how weak we feel compared to all other classes and what other games we are eagerly awaiting the release of instead of discussing builds and strategies like other class forums shows just what a sorry state this class is in. It also shows how ignorant and clueless the developers and balance teams are, because we are most definitely not “ok for the most part”.
I finished crafting my ascended staff the other day and then rolled a warrior alt. I wanted to see if what everyone said was true and I fancied using some of those skill and level scrolls I had in the bank.
I didn’t know much about warriors, but I got my first “omg moment” when I found a trait that gave me 25 percent movement boost when I had melee out….all the time. I used to feel I was fast by going into staff air and getting my speed boost frequently….till I realised warriors can get that….all the time and for free.
Then I took a look along the trait lines and was amazed at how many stackable ten percent or more damage increases there were. I looked at the abilities on the task bar and found I had genuine, hard choices to make as there was so much that was so good.
Then I went into WvW and found that even as an upleveled, poorly geared character, my warrior was doing damage that was close to my ele. With better gear I could see what would take place. I also had twice as many hit points.
I`m going to keep playing it all the way to 80 so I can make a post on my experiences….but for now I think what people say is true. It’s like playing a different game.
Along with that melee instant speed (as opposed to Ele slowly building speed up) you can also trait for speed on crits, so when you have ranged weapon equipped, added instant speed, courtesy of critters etc which they can hit from range, whereas we have to RTL/melee into them.
Another bonus, they can trait (bottom line) to weapon swap every four seconds, also boosting their damage bar even faster.
Remind me, why do we even bother?…..

It’s not the class; an elementalist can kill a veteran in pve in around 5 seconds. (At least I can on my elementalist, and I am a casual player who’s really not that good.)
The class IS much more complicated due to atunements and having 20 abilities available at once, plus the synergies that exist with traits and 6-10 skills chosen. So, it takes more work to learn the best combos given your weapon set and loadout.
For those that actually take the time and effort to learn all that’s available, ele’s can pull off some impressive results in pve. For those that are turned off by complex design, pick a different profession.
Yeah, conjures are garbage that ruin any chance of using any other ele mechanic… but then again ele’s are garbage too…

Yeah. Someone should send this post to ANet, it´s sooo true. I dont like using conjured weapons, because I want to use MY weapons which I earned through the game. ANet is forcing us to use them to do at least some DPS. I dont have any hope for elementalists in the future(just look at the leaked patchnotes(next week) and the leaked patchnotes for the “big” Octoberpatch, ANet still think elementalists are fine).
And btw: Yes, warriors are way to overpowered, I have one myself. They will never get nerfed, because most of the ANet Dev Team are playing a warrior.
well all players that ACTUALLY PLAY AN ELE (all those kitten that doesnt really play it and got no idea wtf is going on which keeps saying its fine but cant back that statement up for kitten, neither on paper or in action -.-) is agreeing that we are crazily weak compared to other class. even the vast majority of players of other classes think we are weak -.-
anet on the other hand seem to think we are fine… but wth do they know from my understanding not a single one of the people who actually got any say in balance changes are maining an ele so yer… gl to us -.-

the actual dps of the conjurer weapons are lower then the dps on your weapon sets, its just an easy mode of doing it(which is where all the dungeon running have gone, no one is actually doing them as intended and as soon as there is something where people need to actually dodge, move and not bug 99% of them fall flat on their face.. its an awfull route the pve dungeons have taken.. gj allowing exploits to kitten up basic skills) -.- (pve related only, since pvp the conjure weapon is as gimmicky and useless as the tornado and will get you killed just as fast -.- )

After shelving my ele I rolled a warrior, I can recommend it (although it’s just level 23 atm^^). Use sword+warhorn and at level 2 you’re more mobile than ele (unless using skills/traits/runes for it) and at 7 you can switch weapons, for very nice convenience, no need to manually move weapons from your inventory as on ele.
Also give engineer a try, friend of mine is playing it and it seems pretty awesome. Get 6x rune of perplexity for him and get your build accordingly (don’t ask me about details about engi though^^).
