I quit. This is ridiculous.
I’ve stopped playing for now, sadly D3 PTR is offline.
Not only the game is terribly balanced, but the anet kitten don’t alloc real resources for the PVP servers making the lag unbearable for elementalist play.
Just because two people stop playing Guild Wars 2 isn’t going to change the speed at which Anet will balance the ele OR nerf other classes to match the elementalist. Nor will they care that you stopped playing. Just because somethings hard doesn’t mean you should give up because it requires more work.
Stress less princess,, maybe take up barbie pony adventures.
On another note……….. Yeh ele can be tough but that is just the pvp world,, IF anet decide to make change to ele I would prefer they take the time and do it right rather then over do it and make it an over played class.
Wow kitten fanbois police, they’re everywhere.
Go play another class then, end of story.
Go play another class then, end of story.
They think by white knighting they will earn some Anet points. But, just like how you say two people quitting wont do much, your white knighting won’t get you jack.
Instead of rage quitting and making idiotic posts, why don’t you get good? It is a well known fact that HB and HS absolutely dominate newbs, but they are balanced once you stop sucking.
“I dont care if you buff us or nerf the other classes so they require as much work as we do.”
If you want to play a stupidly simple class then roll a ranger. If you’re looking for a class with a much higher skill ceiling, then play Elementalist.
Here let me give you some tips:
Elementalists have some cc. I’ll focus on dagger/dagger.
Water: Aoe Chill, Frost armor
Air: Shocking aura, updraft
earth: skill 4 (knocks em down), magnetic grasp for immobilize.
Pop your auras in a situation like this because a HS spammer won’t notice your shocking aura or frost aura. There are traits that gives you protection and other boons on aura activation (hint, get them). You also have updraft and earth skill 4 to put them on their butts. HS thieves are built like chinese toy cars, so avoiding their spike damage then countering with your own damage is helpful.
Countering HB: Just dodge out of the way, pop lightning flash, pop mist form, or shocking aura are a few examples.
You have a point, i think the overal return rate of DMG done against 1 button pressed is too out of whack with both warrior and thief.
I actually think warriors are quite balanced against an elementalist, however mesmers and thiefs are just plain ridiculous at the moment. especially mesmers!
I still find it shocking that, just because the class you happened to pick first is too difficult for you, you cry and quit the game.
Roll a warrior. Roll a necro. Roll a ranger. Just as long as you roll out of here with your whining.
Roll a necro.
heh.. yeah that would work
Have you seen how broken that profession is?
Roll a necro.
heh.. yeah that would work
Have you seen how broken that profession is?
Actually I haven’t played one yet, but I keep hearing everyone cheer for their high base health and lifesteal.

High base health, check.
Lifesteal, non-existant.
Necros do have a trait set that gives them lifesteal. However, it does not work. Almost at all. At level 80 you steal 25 hp per hit. When you have 25,000HP and take around 4,000-8,000 damage a hit…well, I think you can guess how helpful that is.
Necros are probably the most bugged class at the moment with over 100 identified bugs that reduce the Necros performance to a drastic low.
Its rly good class to play specialy vs the 1 butoned thief … this is srsly stupid … last night for str 5 hours i was the only ele in the pvp … this wont make me change the class cuz thats the class i wanna play with but srsly there is something very wrong with that class its way 2 weak compared to the other classes… specialy when they can hold you for 4-5 secs imobilized 2-3 secs stunned and kill you in 2 secs … last night there was an engineer that every single time he showed up i was blown away in 2 shots …. with all the other crazy ccs he got and all…. why making the game only 3-4 classes spamers when there are 8 of them … every1 is rolling a thief ,mesmer or some other op class atm and no1 is caring about what they wanna play… im pretty sure 60% of the curent mesmer ,thief chars will be deleted as long as they balance them and theyr not 1 buton class anymore… sry for my bad english
Serious question: if other classes are “blowing you away”, and you feel this class is weak, then why are you playing an Elementalist?
I have also stopped playing my Elementalist too. Not because it is hard but it is ridiculous slow. Strafing for 2 minutes and pushing 10 buttons to kill a single mob is not fun and I am not feeling special nor skilled player when I do this…If people think they have special skills because they switch 3-4 elements to kill a mob then I am glad for them, I don’t…I just feel I am a victim of people who QQ about elementalists on beta tests.
Although I will not quit this beautiful game, I play other classes for now. If they nerf the other classes so that everybody needs 2 minutes to kill a single mob then maybe I will quit but who cares at the end?
i agree i try every magic class but its not how it use to be there damege is sadly low
and you need to keep dodge running in circles and so on and hope the mops die fast
with ele you need to switch way to much between f1 to f4
with mesmer there ilussions are weak and most die in 1 hit from a mob
ore they spam to slow with there atack like the warlock ilussion
and the pets of nercro are to weak to and stealin hp back is also not great
and a warrior ore thief ore guardian passing by hit the same mob in a few hit you make all magic classes look sad rely
in my few a magic class need to do more dps then any mellee class becouse of there low deff and hp easy as that
not many pll like to combo alot and hope the dps is good of a ele class
when a warrior need 2 hits
i hope but i dont think so they make it beter for the magic classes
sorry for my bad english
Elementalist is great underwater. I soloed some quest skill mobs in Mount Maelstrom and the underwater hunter one seemed tough because of the constant poison and slight regeneration (bursting that down again with wind after cyclone takes forever). However, DoT kiting with earth may take awhile, but it’s a more reliable way of getting that skillpoint, and the fire skill that cleanses poison is a godsend (though it’s CD is too long). Circle strafe and keep applying bleed =win. Wind is usually great underwater (but only underwater) because of the high single target damage from the three bolts, and all three can only hit if you’re close enough to the target.
Lol, L2P is all I can say man. Seriously go into any of the profession threads and this same topic is discussed about that profession there by some no-talent crybaby such as yourself. Learn to play your class well before you start whining about how it needs buffs and every other class needs nerfs. Maybe you’re just bad? No, that couldn’t be it could it…
Give me a break.
The ele isnt that bad. Its not the best professions, and it could use a few tweaks (i.e. traits) but we’re actually not in a bad spot right now.
also underwater water #5 is OP and will probably get nerfed.
In no way is elementalist a bad profession to play with, other than that you are lot more squishier than other professions.
Honestly, it takes from me about 5 seconds to bring someone from 100% to 0% with STAFF build with correct traits and slot skills, how is that a bad thing?
The only bad thing about my ele is that im having hard time on 1v3 unlike my mesmer friend
We are squishier than other professions, but thats why you need time to get used to it and cope with being squishy. Also, you have insane amount of cc, slows heals etc. Anet didn’t design eles to be played in 1 attunement 24/7. If you get rolled by melee class, you are just bad, im sorry.
I was in WvW last night for about 4 hours on my Ele and just loving every minute of it. Granted I go in with my guild and we are organized. However there were a couple of times that I got cut off from the rest, I held my own and chipped away the health of about 4 people who had chased me down, with my guildies running to my rescue of course, they still manged to get there just as the last one fell and I am gulping air tio catch my breath.
kittened this class is strong I said LOL. 4 people chasing me as I kite them … me killing them one by one.
Oh yes, buff my damage please Anet, Oh please, please do. evil laugh
@souldonkey First of all, Have you even checked out the other class forums? Most of the whining is, “OMG why don’t we have speed boosts” or quality of life changes". I know how to play the class. In sPvP I always end around 3rd/4th place point wise. I know how to play, but it doesn’t seem balanced that for the amount of work that needs to be done for a ele is accomplished by a whirlwind + KD + hundred blades or a HS.
Also, /ignored. Won;t have to see your troll posts anymore.

Calling you out for being bad isn’t trolling. It’s honesty that you obviously desperately need. But whatever you want to do man. Keep telling yourself you’re good and the profession you play is just unbalanced. That’s how bad players stay bad chief.

Naw. It’s much more than that.. Pretty much every profession forum is whining about something bad about their class, either about them being broken in some way (Guardian, Necro, Ele, Engi ) or too hard to play ( Necro, Ele, Engi, Mesmer ), or having too many trash options ( Necro, Engi, Warrior, Guardian).
Thieves and Rangers seem to be the only people who seem to actually enjoy their classes to some extent.

My thoughts exactly. And FWIW I play equal amounts of my Ranger, Warrior, and Guardian and freaking love everything about all 3 of them.
Sadly, this is a “Learn To Play” issue. HS and 100 Blades have huge tells. When you see them, you dodge. The thief runs out of initiative and the Warrior does no damage and is on cool-down.
So many lewt skilled badases in this thread, can’t stop laughing.

The only problem I have with my thief is that it is really susceptible to lag in the way I built and play it. Which is a problem of my own creation because I’m playing on a European server from a US location.

No. It’s learn to play. Take 100 blades.
You’re almost certainly going to be dealing with a warrior who is doing the GS + Axe/something build (usually a shield for the bash or a second axe for whirling axe). He’ll leap at you after a wind-up animation (eviscerate skill), try for a shield-bash/whirling axe, then change to GS and try to 100 Blades you.
Knowing that Warriors are almost always run by noobs who excessively rely on this attack pattern… It’s easy to negate.
There is no class that is “Too hard to learn to play”
I mean, is this what people are seriously saying? “Omg, it is too hard, it isnt fair! Make it easier!?” Are you serious? And this is taken into serious consideration by the player base? Really? Do you know how completely ignorant that sounds? No, do not make the players (or anyone for that matter) learn anything new, no, lets force everyone else down. How is “too hard to play” not laughed out of any game forums?
I have a movie for you folks, a movie that I think may actually be a prediction for the future instead of an attempt at comedy. It is called Idiocracy. Watch it, hopefully you will discover how stupid you sound when you say “it is too hard to learn to play” or think that it is a legitimate reason to rework a class or anything in a game.
Ow my brain…time to leave these forums and drink, it is killing me attempting to think down to this lvl.

I’m sorry. How the HELL do you get heartseeked FIVE times? You have mist form, a shield, a blink, a blind and a stun and that’s only looking at the utility skills you can possibly put on your bar, not the multitude of escape mechanics you have with every weapon and attunement. If you got hit more than twice with that obvious as heck jumping animation then your reaction time is the problem.
Because the thief just sat there taking any damage the elementalist threw at it until they weren’t protected anymore and then continued heartseeker…. I mean really….. it isn’t hard to beat an elementalist even if they have all of those shields. Just auto-attack and the elementalist will die pretty easily. If they don’t die that easily then you certainly don’t have to worry about them as their damage output will be next to zero.
Eles are only weak in spvp but are “ok” everywhere else.
Sadly, this is a “Learn To Play” issue. HS and 100 Blades have huge tells. When you see them, you dodge. The thief runs out of initiative and the Warrior does no damage and is on cool-down.
The elementalists also have drawbacks. They also require about twice or thrice the time to down a Warrior, relying on burst skills that can have cooldowns as high as 45s. HB has, what, 8s recharge? Thief has plenty of means to gain a lot of initiative very fast, and 9 other weapon skills to keep you controlled.

Because, and I know this is going to shock the world, but good thief players also exist. Even more shocking, but outside of 3-4 utility skills, we have little utility to protect us against heartseeker, unless you’re trying to imply that elementalists desperatly need 3-4 optional skills to stand a chance against HS spammers.
You’re a cloth class. I main a mesmer and the only direct damage utility skill we CAN get is mantra of pain. If you don’t use utility skills for escapes and.. Well, utility, then I don’t know what else they’re for. “Good” doesn’t allow thieves to teleport to you and HS has a pretty short range compared to other leap skills. If you can’t get out of it with mist form or blink then there’s a bug worth reporting. As for “needing” that many. I’d say you at least need one. If that isn’t enough I can go through the list.
Staff -fire -burning retreat
Staff -Water – AOE chill area
Staff -Air -Ring of stun and a blowback
Staff -Earth -Snare and cripple.
Dagger MH -Fire -Burning charge move.
Dagger MH -Water -Another aoe chill
Dagger MH -Air -Aura of Stun
Dagger OH -Water -Chill Aura
Dagger OH -Air -Blowback
Dagger OH -Earth -Knockdown
Focus -Water -Daze
Focus -Air -Knockdown
Focus -Earth -Invincibility
Now Chill and Cripple won’t get you home free on their own but combined with just one cantrip like mist form or blink should put enough distance between you and the thief to cause problems for them.

I deleted my Ele, not cause I don’t like the class, but I needed the slot to try guardian. My guardian is getting deleted so I can recreate my Ele. I will be full glass cannon ele again and will be trying to sPvP group with my staff support Ele friend. He doesn’t die very often an puts out a good amount of healing and regen. Not to mention 3 chill fields in a row that just ruin a thieves day. The 2 of us usually dual cap, atm I roll with my ranger but I can get much better damage out of my crazy Ele build. Fighting against most thieves even in 1v1 it ends at me on about half hp and them in their downed invisible state. As soon as they reappear its smash lighting auto attack and then dragons tooth them when they teleport.
Warriors I have a bit more trouble with, especially ones in vitality and defense, my build doesn’t focus to much on conditions.

What Efaicia said.
Everyone who is struggling, hang in there!
Between the Betas and release i’ve got almost 300 hours on my ele. The first 150 was sPvP in the betas, and the rest was PvE/WvW.
I’ve tried almost every spec out there, with almost every weapon set, and in most of the game modes.
Im definitely not the best ele out there by any means, but im pretty good. (ex-Paradigm…. not enough time to play )
Honestly im still learning with this class. I make mistakes and i pay for them. I do. And you know what, I get so much better because of it.
Yes, we are squishy. Yes we dont do uber leet damage. But once you really start learning the class deeply, and i dont mean just leaning a good rotation ,you’ll find that we have options and damage and mobility and defence and support all in a neat little package.
We have things that need work, just like every class, but what we dont need is the FOTM re-rollers playing this class and brining terrible ideas in. We dont need big buffs. A few trait changes, and few bug fixes and we’ll be in a great spot.
HANG IN THERE!!

I pay attention to your posts, as you clearly know your business. However, you should consider that the sheer volume of time you have put into this overly complex class may render your opinion somewhat less useful for players who are more casual. I submit that the vast majority of players would be more effective playing almost any other class, in almost any situation.
It’s not like there’s some pot of gold at the end of the elementalist learning curve. I think it’s more of a low floor than a high ceiling.

1. do NOT facetank. DODGE!
2. Dont use fire.
3. Dont use a staff.
4. Swap elements. Water has some healing, its not much but it may save your life.
5. Take (and USE) DEFENSIVE skills.
6. OMG Toughness !
7. OMG Vitality!
8. Learn mobs agro range. IF you get downed #3 when it comes up may let you move far enough that you can move out of the agro range. You can then 4 yourself back up.
So you want to dps…thats great. Yeah, power for more dps is great. Yeah precesion for more critical damage is great. Dead DPS do 0 dps.
FAR FAR FAR too many run around with their staff casting fireballs at everything. They don’t move, they don’t dodge, take only DPS skills and then wonder why they die so much. Just run around for a few minutes and you will pick them out.
If it wasn’t for the forum bugs I would have quoted… but whatever.
@Anlyon
I definitely see what you are saying. My only problem is, if I’m going to put over 300 hours into something (especially when half of it is sPvP which is a much better learning environment) then I really don’t want to be only as capable as the other classes who have put much less time into their class.
Just wanne add that like my Elementalist, but Yes it is unbalanced and weak. I think I can count the times I won a 1 vs 1 in sPVP on one hand. That doesent mean I play bad I´m doing quite well in sPVP geting top in the points, and doing quite well in PVE. But it takes allot of work and this dosent equal the work other classes need to put in to be even better then the elementalist. Atlest Arenanet should give elementalist some reward for all that work and effort whit the atunment dancing/combo spellcasting that would rival the other classes.

While that’s true to an extent, on your staff observation I really think that no profession should come with the caveat “Yeah, you can use this weapon but it’s no good.” Same goes for “Don’t use X” “Only spec Y”. If the other options aren’t working at all, they are not working. That doesn’t mean “don’t use them nub”, it means “balance is needed here”.
They shouldn’t go too far and OP the Ele. But they should make more than one or two builds workable outside of niche situations. If the Ele is about versatility, there should be a versatility in the builds that work. It’s playable now, but it’s still a little underpowered to my mind in that area.
There is no class that is “Too hard to learn to play”

I agree that being “too difficult” is no good reason to change anything about the class. However, I do honestly feel that the more difficult classes should also yield better results when played well. And I feel that this is the area where the Ele is failing. You can play your Ele really well but your damage is still very mediocre compared to many of the other classes.
It should be like this:
- Warrior played by a bad player: mediocre results
- Ele played by a bad player: absolutely dismal results, worse off then the warrior (because, hey, it’s a difficult class to play)
- Warrior played by a decent player: good results
- Ele played by a decent player: good results (roughly on-par with Warrior in PvP and PvE such as being able to kill/farm mobs at the same speed and be able to run dungeons competitively)
- Warrior played by a great player: good results (a bit better then the decent player but not hugely so)
- Ele played by a great player: absolutely out-standing results (way better then a well played warrior in most areas of the game)
As it currently stands an Ele played by a “great” player is about on par with a Warrior played by a “decent” player – and this is unfair.
Complicated classes: yes please. But complicated classes that can’t seriously out-perform the easy ones even when played well: that’s simply unbalanced.
My suggestion: either balance all classes around average (decent) players or balance them around great players but don’t mix the two.
AmnonSerious question: if other classes are “blowing you away”, and you feel this class is weak, then why are you playing an Elementalist?
Imagine this incredible scenario: someone bought a game with the intention to play a “mage”.
Absurdly enough, they want to play it even if it blows and don’t immediately reroll the FOTM. Rare sight these day? Maybe. But there are some players made like that.
NelonaHonestly, it takes from me about 5 seconds to bring someone from 100% to 0% with STAFF build with correct traits and slot skills, how is that a bad thing?
Did you get a lucky string of crits once in your life => “Elementalist takes 5 seconds to bring someone 100% to 0%” is it repeatable and demonstrable?
If so I’d like to know the build and gear that accomplish such feat.
@Vaerah
Elementalist is not a “Mage”. Heck, it’s more a Melee class than ranged anyway.
You want a “Mage” get a Necro.
