I really want to like the ele...
Try an Engineer?
Don’t get stuck on your rotation. In an ideal situation where you’re not going to take any damage, the rotation is the way to go. In every other situation though, you should focus on reacting instead of just dropping your rotation.
Or play another class. Ele’s are notorious for putting in twice the effort for the same payoff other classes get. This is one of the reasons i like my Ele, but i can understand how that would deter someone else.
For S/D, the only “rotation” you should focus on is: Dragon’s tooth—>ring of fire—>phoenix (in field)—>dodge roll (swap earth mid-roll)—>earthquake—>churning earth, and only when you are in a speed run where you are trying to stack maximum might. On your own, you can buff your entire party 15 stacks of might, which adds quite a bit of dps.
Beyond that, ele is about responding and using smaller combos when necessary. Don’t use Churning earth when you are under fire unless you want to blow a utility (you will find that lots of things will stun/daze you near the end as well, making it less useful). In fact, Churning earth is rarely worth casting against strong enemies unless you have a death wish or can be smart about using your lightning flash or LOSing them. Water should be saved for emergency condi-clear + healing. Don’t involve that in the standard rotation.
While working on my timing, I’m pulling all sorts of adds with trying to max my mobility. Veterans or more than 2 mobs, forget about it… I’m toast. I get so frustrated that I just end up going back to my warrior. I thought I did my research upon recently coming back, but I’m doing something wrong somehow. Should I just go fresh air / LH build and just deal with inefficiencies?
this is what really gets me: how are you dying this fast, apparently?
i can pull half a dozen normal mobs and come out of the battle with 75% health or higher. i’m running the 0/10/0/30/30 D/D build that was popular way back in december of last year and has been subsequently nerfed many times, apparently.
hell, today, i was able to solo five aetherblade pirate veterans during the scarlet invasion by myself; my only exotics are my daggers, which, are cleric. the rest of my equipment is masterwork and this is at level 80.
honestly, i don’t know what to tell you. practice more? get better? roll an alt? you just seem to be frustrated with elementalists.
EDIT: i just saw you said S/D and not D/D; the rotation, tho, and play style, seem to be somewhat similar to each other, so, idk.
I haven’t been able to land churning earth lately…maybe the rare occasion. People are getting smart to ele’s big hitters and they know when to stun me
