Im scared to play an Elementalist
It just takes experience. To be effective as a staff ele, you need to make the most of your combo fields and finishers, where most classes (and even other ele weapons) can get away with just using whatever is off cooldown.
The last patch did hurt staff eles a lot though. Your condition removal was mostly from cleansing water + regen spam, and ANet crapped all over that for some reason that nobody understands. You pretty much have to take ether renewal at this point, unless you want to be a free kill for any condition spec.

so would u recomend going a different weapon type then?
and thanks for the quick reply btw
There is no need to worry. It’s not that easy at first but once you get used to it it’s a lot of fun and still rewarding.
The D/D build used to be pretty simple but due to the frequent nerfs it actually is a challenge now (which is fun in some cases imo).
I would say it is one of the hardest professions to play since it takes some time and practice to really know how to play an ele. Yes, you can just do the same skill rotations over and over again but that doesn’t make you a good ele imo.
I would suggest you try the ele in PvP and if you like the constant attunement swapping an ele might be the right profession for you.
and one last question.(u guys are great at replying fast)if Ele doesnt work for me would u guys say ranger or engineer
Even though I like the Engineer I would say Ranger. The Engi kits are kinda similar to Ele attunements. If you didn’t like the attunements you most likely won’t like the kits either. You should try them both though.
If you plan to use the staff in a group, you’ll be fine. It’s probably the worst 1v1 option in the game, though
I just started a d/d ele recently, and I was worried as many people were jumping ship after the recent nerf. But I have to say this is the most fun class I have played so far! I really enjoy the attunment switching and combat feels very different from other classes. However I feel as though it will take awhile before I am truly used to the skills, which won’t happen until I get more practice. I highly reccomend the class however!

It just depends on what you enjoy. D/D is fairly easy to become competent with, but has a lot of advance techniques that are needed to compete in high level PvP/dueling. If you don’t plan to play an ele outside of PvE, WvW zergs, or hot join, you will probably never need to learn them though.

alright well thanks for all the helpful info guys. Im going to try out ELE and Engineer. i wanted to focus on AoE damage and the grenades sound promising.
I thought it was pretty rough at first but it becomes second nature fairly quickly. Now everything other than D/D Thief, Ele, and Engineer feel kinda boring by comparison.
Be warned that Engineer grenades are horrendously annoying to use though. Second only to ranger 1H sword in terms of awkwardness. It’s the most effective setup they have, but I don’t run it anymore just because it drives me insane.
d/d ele is the most fun version of a magic user character in any game imo. You’re a magic using assassin.

Oh wait, read Martin Firestorm, he says it better…

This guy pretty much summed it up. Grenades are very annoying if you stay in the kit, and other than my engineer, my ele is the only alt that I’ve got that keeps me entertained :P
Dr Hoppenheimer – Engi / Meowzir – Guard /
Mulcibur Nox – Ele / Mr Directed – Mes
I main an Engi and love it because it offers so much variety and it’s dynamic in combat. Which is why I just rolled an Ele, because they seem to require an equal level of skill and dynamics while offering variety. Fingers crossed.

Bunker is a build for the PvP soloing Ele. Outside of that the sky is the limit for useful builds.
