In my view, Ele are bad compared to other classes.
to address quickly. First off your rank means nothing as far as class balance goes. Second without knowing what weapon set you use there is no way to put your comment in context. I suck on warrior. I rock in ele. That doesn’t justify me saying warrior is not balanced its needs improvements. Even if your Ele is 80 its makes no difference.
If you want to comment on how traits need improvement for more dps specs I understand. However be mindful that ele is rather good in PvP in the hands of a good elementalist.
Sigh if you look at the big picture its rather funny, thief barely have a bunker build that goes for warrior too. Rangers have pet AI issue and a host of useless traits. Necros barely have a working Power build and are pigeonholed in conditions. Mesmers have nearly no good condition builds. Guardians have a pitiful ranged option in scepter and engineers have no decent melee options. Compared to others we are about the same.

your talking about one burst build and proclaiming that the entire class and all it weapons “suck” because we don’t have a burst build. Yet this forum is flooded with videos and testimonials of eles doing well if not superbly in PvP. And yet day after day some one comes on and proclaims that because they did well on a warrior ele must be broken. This pity train absolutely needs to stop.

If you think ele “sucks” it just may be that certain players suck at playing ele.

what you perceive as “suck” is elementalists being inherently more complicated then any other class in the game. the engineer is the only one that matches the elementalist in this place, but even then, engineers don’t have cool downs on kit swapping, thus, they can freely swap and fit in any role. melee? bomb/tool kit. long-range? grenade/elixir gun. during BWE1, they had a ten second swap on kits with a trait to reduce the cool down to around 2-3 seconds, iirc, but they reworked the trait and removed the cool down.
the problem is the fact that elementalists need ten times the effort put into the class compared to warriors and thieves (as your original post said) to get the same effect.
The elementalist definitely sucks at getting WvW Badges. His speed of acquiring these is about half as high as that of say warriors. It’s not a question of whether an elementalist can beat a warrior in 1v1, certainly a tanky ele played by someone who knows what he’s doing can wear down a warrior, it’s just that elementalist sucks at dishing out damage, big time, and it’s the factor for gaining badges in WvW. Even if ele goes glass cannon and staff for (nerfed) aoe, his damage is puny at best compared to what other classes can do with 1/2 the effort and 2x the survivability.

If you are not picking up your bags, that is entirely a LTP issue. I know plenty of Warriors who also fail to pick up their bags after a fight and they generally get far less than I do because I kill stuff at max ranges while they cower in fear at the opposing Ele’s who are also laying down the AoE pain at max ranges.

2) Why not offering these tickets in the gems store only?

Uh, ele is extremely viable in free and paid tournaments.

1) Most items available in the gem store are also obtainable (even if infrequent) by other means.
2) Wouldn’t really be F2P then would it?

4) The game has been out for a very short time have patience.
I’m honestly not trying to start an argument here, hence the IMO at the beginning of my previous post. But e-sports do have games like LoL and DOTA, DOTA2 that are all about PVP catered to what you guys want. GW2 is an MMO not a pvp arena based game, yes the pvp is here for those that want to participate but there are other aspects as well. If you (generally speaking not aimed at anyone) can respect the fact that I like pve AND pvp then I’ll glady respect that all you like is pvp and we don’t have to fight

eles do kinda suck compared to other classes. You have to be an above average player to have average performance with an elementalist, doesnt matter what weapon set you use.
The OP does have a point. The biggest problem ele have is that half the available kits dont mesh well at all, a lot of the abilities have long cast times, channels and/or directional facing requirements (Scepter 1 fire autoattack has a cast time is that a joke?) and most of our most useful tools for damage are bleeds/burns which get cleansed.
Seriously you guys might be great elementalists but that doesnt mean this profession isnt lacking. It has nothing to do with the ‘difficulty of the class’ its just that the overall design is pretty bad.
If they cherry picked the useful abilities or moved them around some to make the different weapon combos better, the class would probably be better.
But keep it real: For the most part the only real viable weapon sets are D/D, Staff and S/D. Almost everyone agrees that unless you spec heavy water and/or heavy arcane you are kittening yourself. You have to stack toughness or you get insta gibbed in spvp. Thats a bunch of restraints on build options right there before we even start.
Lets not even talk about other sets like S/F or D/F. I never see anyone making vids or showing off their success with these weapon sets. D/F doesnt even have a heal!
Not saying you cant do well with the class, but denying the class needs work is kind of a stretch as well.

hehe don’t mind them – it’s always the same 4, 5 people coming into elementalist threads claiming they are made of pure awesome and elementalist is completely fine, or even overpowered.
Happens every time in every MMO, when a class is deemed under-powered by pretty much everyone (including other classes) the atention seekers come in with their thirsting egos, looking to impress the masses.
Meanwhile, no real proof is provided apart from “I’m awesome, you’re not, L2P!”, no videos, explanations, not even simple theory-crafting.
(you’ll see the occasional cherry picked video of sPvP fighting clueless opponents and claiming “pwnage” or the usual WvW video of lvl 80 exotic eles fighting droves of kitten lowbies though)
I can solo Orr just fine and dandy, even large groups with a bronze or 2 in the middle can be doable, I can sPvP just fine in my bunker build, I’m resilient as hell, and my damage, though low by other classes standards will sneak up on ya, I can go on WvW and open a can of whoop*** on the enemy zerg at a whim – yet, having played other classes as well, I can make the informed and objective claim that the elementalist is in reality a very underpowered class – it is still, my favorite though
I consider myself more than able to handle an ele and can pretty much dish pain to any profession in 1vs1 situation, said this I’m a d/d ele and staff user occasionally, it really piss me off that over 80% of my skills must be manually aimed especially on d/d set which is freaking ridicolous.
To make sure that fire grab hit I must use a sort of battle plan where I need to deduct the enemy next position if not I miss, same thing with burning speed.
The dmg of the auto-attack is below ridicolous, I mean look at the engineer auto-attack, bloody hell that hip shot hit consistently for 1.5k despite having protection and heavy armour level (2.6k armour).
The damage of the ele need to be increased, if people like to go glass cannon should be left free of dealing 8k dmg with a fire grab of course with the risk of being one-shooted in return, by comparison a balance build should not rely on condition dmg for 70% of the total output.
If people need to “l2dodge lol” against thieves-mesmer-etc etc, it’s about time people l2dodge eles burst also
Not that this has much to do with the OP, but I would like to talk about Badges and bag pick up in WvW since it was mentioned.
I find myself not having time to pick up or even look for bags. Pushing past the melee and into the range dps and siege equipment you don’t have any time to waste looking for some bag hardly that’s noticable. Most of the time people do not push properly and being one of the few that do compunds the fact I don;t have time to look for bags when pushing into a group of enemies.
This is not L2P. Why games force you to look for loot while still fighting is beyond me. They did this crap in the late stages of Age of Conan, kill players and get a bag. Kiting 2 or 3 people at a time does not give you much time to loot a bag. Eventually, I found myself not caring since the tokens in that game could be aquired through other means.
I’m not saying to do the same, what I am saying is that you should not have to loot for tokens especailly when you got the kills. The tokens should either be held in some cloud mode where you can loot them at your leisure or just pop into your inventory automaticly. I should not have to be punished wasting my time looking for loot bags because I’m doing my job in WvW.

no one in this thread said that elementalists don’t need work; we were just pointing out at the OP might not be near as good at elementalists as he is thieves and warriors. considering how much more effort is needed to play an elementalist then either of those two classes, this is entirely feasible. i didn’t say anywhere in my original post that elementalists don’t need tweaks or outright buffs. i just said they’re more complicated/harder to play then pretty much every other class for the same output.
The thing is NO ONE should be forced into a Bunker build. However, if we spec for damage (And full power does not count because I can do 2x as much with Precision spec), we die if someone sneezes on us. And the max amount we usually hit for is about 3k. Where as other classes that spec glass cannon, say thief or warrior, do triple that damage plus have more survivability. Heck, warriors Power trait line has a 5% of power becomes vitality. And there is enough thief threads to go around.
All we ask is for some more balance, however it would seem that the Elementalist forums are ignored 95% of the time. Elementalist was the first Profession revealed, and the last one they seem to care about. But we will have to wait and see on the 15th of November…
I have to agree to the OP to some extent that ele needs work. Having played multiple professions in spvp I can say that there is a gab between eles and (certain) other professions.
It may be correct that you can outperform others in 1v1 if you are allowed to drag out the fight (and if skills are not on cooldowns). It may also be correct that there are certain bunker builds that outshine other bunker builds (except guardians ofc.).
However, the main issue as I see it is that eles are forced to spec water/arcane to be on par with other professions. If we spec glass we don’t really become cannons and with such a low health pool we are forced to get lots of toughness/vitality or thiefs (and other burst classes) will simply mow us down in matter of seconds, in particular in hot join spvp where you rarely go 1v1 but more like zerg v zerg. Thus, there are only a few builds available to us if we want to be somewhat competitive.
Having said that, I still find the ele class fun as hell, in particular d/d style. What saddens me thugh is when I try to pull a combo on a foe only to realize either of the following: A) All skills hit and I luckily kill him cause he was glass, my RTL stopped 10 feet before him and he 100blades (or whatever) me to death while I can’t move or C) that my 5 seconds of combo only took 1/4 of his health, probably due to some misses and now he begins to fight back but no matter, cause I suddenly get instagibbed by a d/d thief without any chance of reacting. My health drops from full to nothing in 1,5 seconds.
Playing a mezmer or thief, if I get outnumbered or my combo misses, well, no matter, I just reset the fight or move on unharmed (in stealth).
The thing is, other classes can do what we do, but only with fewer skills and less care + having more health and hit harder.
Right now, the only viable build is staff (or perhaps d/d) bunker or bunker/balanced build).
A question: has anyone ever felt successfull going full fire (might stacking build) or full lightning? Probably not. Maybe going full earth for the rather unimpressive auromancer build could work but still… Whats left? Oh, the mandatory arcane/water trees..
Yes i agree there will always be troll’s claiming that they own and Ele is fine.But they don’t see the big picture here. Each and every build i tried or saw on the internet sucks because we cant have good dmg we cant have enuf HP and toughness to survive. Or skills sucks so badly because of the long animation and casting time that it is impossible to hit some one. For example i KD some one and fire instantly Dragon’s tooth the guy stand’s up and roll’s out of the zone i selected waaaaay before the skill hits. That’s only one example of bad design.
The Ele is so badly designed and i never saw anything so bad in any MMORPG that i played. The original idea of the ele is not bad the class is overall fun for me in PVE but in PVP it totally suck’s.
Like i said Arenanet dosnt listen to player’s at all.
The defensive elementalists are very strong. It might be hard for some of you to accept that, but good elementalists with specific builds are almost impossible to be killed, because whenever their HP falls low, it gets fully back up again over and over. They can also pack a punch with the right attributes. Anet has already stated that they are watching this build, much like they are watching other problematic issues (guardian’s bunker, thief’s stealth and burst, etc), which makes perfect sense, because should we ever get a buff to our elites, and some crucial bug fixes to our main skills, bunker eles would be even stronger than what they already are. Even the focus, which is our most defensive off-hand, is overshadowed by the more offensive OH dagger when it comes to bunker builds.
The biggest problem with the elementalists, is that they are lacking at almost everything else. Their glass cannon builds can’t kill anything nor can they defend themselves meaningfully. Condition builds and crowd control builds are all secondary to bunker, and for a reason. Conjure builds are ineffective, glyphs are (mostly) ineffective. Half our traitlines are quite not there and one of them is really poor. Our elites are mediocre at best, and our underwater skills are not much better.
What we pretty much have is:
10 earth/ 30 water/ 30 arcane Staff Bunker (with good support and CC)
10 earth/ 30 water/ 10+ arcane S/D Roamer/ Bunker hybrid (20 air/ fire and/ or power-healing hybrid amulets for good damage)
10 earth/ 30 water/ 10+ arcane D/D Roamer/ Bunker hybrid (20 air/ fire and/ or power-healing hybrid amulets for good damage)
(The amulets I’m talking about are Shaman’s, Cleric’s, Valkyrie’s and possibly one or another more).
