Do you think bunker eles may become viable again with the allowance of capping during invuln state? Unlike guards we have few blocks and many invulnerabilities, which ironically hampered us in the past. Obsidian flesh and mist form add immensely to our survivability, so being able to actually use them while guarding a point could be huge.

I think a S/F bunker might actually work pretty well. That weapon-set has a couple of blinds, rock barrier (+toughness), a 4s invuln, 2 condi-clear on weapon skills (one clears 3), projectile blocks, weapon-set invuln. Mix that with a 0/0/20/20/30 taking rock-solid/ether renewal, earth’s embrace (traited stunbreak), mistform (good again), arcane shield, maybe earth shield (for the invuln), and you have a machine that can survive quite a while and withstand heavy condi-pressure and heavy burst, while providing good team util (help resses, aoe stab for 2s every 10, aoe heals and boons + condi clear + an extra earth-shield to let someone else invuln for a bit.

Plus you can bring some helpful offensive skills like a couple of cc’s (although slow) and can stack might like a boss if necessary (fire line + DT + phoenix + earth-dodge roll + earth 4 = 12 stacks of team might).

Finally, this could even be a good far-point bunker using tornado to get a decap pretty effectively.

That is the point, they are changing it in the next patch, meaning our invul skills got a lot better in pvp as a bunker.

I kind of doubt it will, at least not by much. If it does make bunker eles effective again, then the invuln skills will probably just get nerfed.

I don’t like invuln capping. The elementalist has access to 3 invulnerabilieties: Obsidian Flesh, Mist Form and Vapor Form. With these, the ele can hold a point 1v5+ for at least 10 seconds. Plus the time he stays alive. It’s just an annoying and cheap mechanic and eles definitely won’t be allowed to keep that.

If the elementalist gets overused in tPvP after that change, I foresee a dark future for eles:

  • First, there will be completely unrelated nerfs, which do not affect the new bunker at all, but hurt elementalist in PvP/WvW: a higher cooldown here, lower damage there, 30 icd on aura share.
  • Then, the invuln skills itself will be nerfed: obsidian flesh locks the skill bar, mist and vapor form duration gets reduced by one second. In addition to +5-10 second cooldown on each, of course.
  • Finally, the week before the next big PvP turney, ANet decides that invuln capping is a cheap mechanic and will be removed again
  • In each of the balance updates, warrior and a random underused class gets buffed.
  • In March/April 2014 I’ll link to that post to say: Told ya.
I can’t wait until ANet releases the game promoted in the manifesto.
Until that, I’ll play GW2.

Oh my god, I never even thought about this… sadly I can easily imagine this happening. Maybe for the safety of all eles, they should just make it so you can only “half cap” while invunerable (point bar decreases and increases at half rate).

that’s my regular wvw build and it’s great it’s hard for me to die… but if i don’t have all my stacks and buffs and foods, I can’t kill a bunny… or at least against any decent wvw player.

my new staff support wvw build is signets and 0/0/30/30/10 and thats usually for reset night on SoR. Works great since I can’t use any skills anyways and I could last for ever on the staff around tens of enemies that can’t use any skills also… anyhow I would love more direct damage for ele… just give us some more damage so I can actually kill things with my build, not instant death that a war or thief brings but after 30 to 1 min I should be able to kill an opponent instead of the two of us just looking at each other and walking away… if I change to a more direct dps mode then I just die… that is the basic problem with the ele, in that we have to choose burst damage or bunker build support… why, why cant we have a balance and let our skills determine that…

Yeah there are pro players that will just kick kitten but that’s what they are pro players..
