Is Elementalist good?
Elementalists are hard to play, and their survivability is far lower than most others, making leveling a pain at times. You also have to try a lot harder than others to achieve the same results, again, at lower levels it’s more annoying. Once you bypass that entry barrier they have some excellent abilities and good builds
Elementalists have one build in sPVP that is way OP but other than that they are by no means OP. They have some use in WvW, with multiple builds, but in PVE/Dungeons they are situated around the middle on the effectiveness chart, neither UP, nor OP.
There is no “best race” in this game
You are starting to play in a chaotic time for the class. I would first choose a class that has the play style you like that is the most important. Don’t choose the ele based on if its good or bad. Go for play style you will be much happier. My personal favorite race is Sylvari. All races are equal and the racial skills are kinda meh anyways. For the first month and a half of the game I played theif, but then i found the ele and have been happy ever since. I would also recommend trying out all the classes and watching some youtube videos on how other play them.
Do yourself a favour and roll a Thief instead.

Thanks guys. But I Seem to say heaps of people in different forums say warriors are the best and really good dps and defence etc. And also when people are asked to choose their favourite profession. All the people I’ve seen says warrior. Is this true? Oh and what level do elementalists become good?

Warrior is a fun class, I have a lvl 72 warrior. Thats kind of a tough question when ele’s become good. I started noticing my survivability go up around 20 when i could get my first ten talent tree points in a tree. I usually went with arcana, water, or earth. Earth and water for survivability but group play i went with arcana so i could switch more often. An ele reaches its full potential like all other classes at level 80 when they can maximize the full use of multiple trees.
if you play PvE roll a guardian or a warriors
They are insanely OP (but really even more you can imagine…something along 5X damage and 2 X survivability) and preserved by developers.
For endgame they are the ONLY 2 classes really efficient.
If you plan on playing WWW those classes are good. even there…but the PET www class is thief.
Consider they will nerf whatever thief and warriors players will complain of.
Its what happened since start making professions unviable.
Its no wonder those 2 classes makes alone the biggest part of community.

A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

It really depends for what you mean by good, and where. Anything can work in PvE (player vs environment in the open map), but some classes are harder than others. Warriors (mobile + offensive) and guardians (slow + defensive) reign supreme in PvE. There are a lot of options for WvW as well (any class can work reasonably), but thieves reign supreme for solo-roaming while guardians/mesmers have the best team-support available. Necros also bring a lot to zerg-warfare.
About elementalists:
Ele can be very hard at low levels until you start to get some traits that help keep you alive, LEARN TO DODGE ROLL, and learn the skills and their cooldowns as second-nature. They have some interesting play-styles, and can provide some good teams support in dungeons. They can be specced to survive close-range by bunkering, or you can try using staff and kill things with long-range AoE (area damage) and CC (crowd control), which is do-able against the computer b/c they are predictable. Staff is also very useful in the zerg in WvW. The usefulness of the daggers (d/d bunker spec) is getting seriously reduced in WvW with the patch going live tomorrow (4/30).
Elementalist is good, and will remain good. It just has a very high learning curve, is all. It would help if you find someone knowledgeable with all Ele builds to help show you the ropes (Rather than the million D/D Eles whining about the nerf). I know a few of them.
Can you tell me some builds for elementalist? Mainly focusing on fire. (or air)

Don’t feel intimidated by what some of the people here are saying. Long story short, a popularized overpowered spec for the Elementalist is getting fixed today and so many of them are bitter they can’t easy Godmode anymore.
Elementalist is like any other class, same learning curve (easiest for me, harder for him, easier for her, etc etc), all depends on your preference and playstyle. It has a few more buttons to press yes, but difficulty can hardly be summarized with numbers of buttons can it? Some classes do however only bloom towards the later levels. Thief and Elementalist are two examples of these, as is Mesmer. You have to commit and stick with them till later levels to get the best out of your experience with them, as they are substantially weak during their beginning without traits+utilities that keep them alive.
But they all even out with the others later so, don’t worry.
Just go for whatever you want. Elementalist you’ll pick up mostly in a matter of days so don’t worry and enjoy the game! Any guild you join worth their salt will let you run whatever class you want in a dungeon regardless of what the PvE meta is… if you really wanna min/max meta in PvE, I’d make a guardian though.

According to DEVS elementalist was OP ONLY IN pvp (and UP in PvE or should i say “adamantly uneffective?” to quote exact words).
While thief is still OP in www. (to the point even most thief players admit it)
Now if you play pvp you don t need “building a character”
Also its quite clear we got here being thieves counterclass in WWW so they thought they don t care to make ele unviable more than it was before ….

A thief player? Why do you think every one who has a legitimate proposal of the Old Spec being overpowered is a thief player? You probably don’t read anybodies posts, most recently I posted about how I haven’t touched my thief in months.
Ele’s are easy, they always have BEEN easy. because most people who play them are bangwagoning kitten who can’t play.
I merely have a gripe with feeling too powerful and godmode when I play my ele in WvW. Its why I stopped, owning everyone got boring.
Also, thieves need a major boost in WvW. Me only dying to 1 thief since December in WvW is not OK. I’m not a very good player, I don’t care for this game enough to get better, and yet thieves are so easy. Stealth is predictable, they can’t do anything outside stealth, and the last thing they need is more damage. Anet has finally realized this and is giving them viable options like S/D.
Maybe this OP D/D Cantrip spec getting nerfed for Ele, will allow Anet to balance the rest of the class and make the needed changes without having the worry about making this spec even more over powered. View it as a positive change, with long term merits.

My paragon was called Pistol Whippz In GW1 and I loved to Pistol Whip enemies in horde mode in gears of war 2 with my friends, hence the name. Are you actually stupid enough to believe I named my account name after a skill? And even if I did that this directly makes me a thief player?
If I’m so bad, why am I having no problem with thieves while you get apparently murdered by them? If you want, I can teach you how to fight them, its not hard.

As i explained in the other topics its the exact opposite…
S/D don t require any skill you get permaprotections and 3 healings.
D/D cantrip sacrifice defence for offence….and this suggest your postscould be malicious….
Bunker build are the issue….glasscannon are not (obviously considering the can be onsehot from stealth by thieves while they have half damage and survivability of any other class).

This is what the guy ask and none of yal even answer it. What the heck?? I am curious too about what is a good build focusing on Fire or Air. Any weapon to be honest and please be really descriptive about instead of this is faceroll and that. Nobody doesn’t want to read that, but only which build is efficient for fire or air.
