I have always played an aggressive Fire/Earth/Arcane/Water build, (I gave up water in HoT). I’ve glanced at Tempest, but because I have very little interest in pvp I haven’t gotten to play with it, and in pve (just barely unlocked it, not even the first trait). So I’m just curious before I dive headfirst into HP if Tempest has any offensive potential. For a zerker type build (I really haven’t seen much other than supporting/ tanky build)

Thoughts? Build suggestions?

I can tell you right now that damage oriented builds will make great use of it. Basically you need to focus on using overload air with fresh air as much as possible. It may be more viable than seeker staff ele in the content since the overloads you can move with channeling, helping them land on the more mobile mobs more often.

I would say so, if I have to believe WoodenPotatoes’ video. It looks really interesting:

I would say so, if I have to believe WoodenPotatoes’ video. It looks really interesting:

At the end of that video he says that tempest is still bad, and that he has transferred all his armour to his Reaper. He says he gets 30k gravedigger crits…

If you want to play PvE only with it then I’d say it is worth it if you personally like the way it plays.

If you play anything else then no. The elite spec simply is flawed at its core. It has some interesting mechanics that you could play around with in PvE but honestly it feels like a total waste compared to other really good elite specs.

I know work was put into it, but it just doesn’t feel like a quality elite like say chronomancer/reaper/herald/scrapper/druid is. Honestly at this point I don’t even run it anymore. I’ll just wait until an elite with Ele Mainhand sword comes out and hopefully it’ll be made by the person behind classes like Chronomancer/herald if how fun they are is any indication.

People have said that the aura aspect of the traitline is decent; however everything else seems counter-intuitive to the initial design of the elementalist which is to shift through the attunements. The overcharges cannot be cast until after 5 seconds of sitting in an element, takes a 5 second cast, and then makes the recharge twice as long?

For PVE, Tempest is an upgrade to the Fire/Air/Water Staff DPS Elementalist. With Icebow 4 nerfed, it is difficult to take advantage of that +20% damage to foes with Vulnerability, and thus Water is no longer a mandatory spec.

Fire/Air/Tempest Staff DPS Elementalist lets you add Overload Fire to your standard Lava Font, Flame Burst, Meteor Shower, auto attack spam. You can switch to Air while you are casting Meteor Shower to add Overload Air into your spam rotation. Shouts and Overloads can give you perma-Fury (and Swiftness) if you take the relevant trait in Air spec.

Don’t listen to the naysayers about Tempest in PVP – Earth/Water/Tempest Staff Ele is perhaps the best Bunker in the entire game. I really don’t understand why people can’t see this.

Very flawed advice about the PvE spec. Switching to Air during Meteor Shower means you are going to have to wait 20 seconds before you can get back to fire. Starting in Air is the better option. Also taking the fury aura trait in air means giving up Ferocious Winds, which is not a good trade-off unless you are heavy auras. Fury comes from Persisting Flames.

Yes, you start in Air; forgot to mention that because that’s how I run around in PVE.

You only trigger 10-20 seconds cool-down if you switch out of fire shortly after an Overload Fire.

Staff Ele doesn’t quite have enough blast finishers (Arcane Brilliance, Earth 2, what else? Arcane Wave is terrible) to rely solely on blasting fire fields for Fury.

I find that the perma-Fury from Auras gives me far more damage than the additional Ferocity from Ferocious Winds. Note that even at 100% crit chance, +1% crit damage does not equal +1% overall damage – because we all have base 150% crit damage.

Also perma-Fury from Auras frees up my heal slot for a better heal.
