Is there a condi build that isn't horrible?
against players? not really
ele can’t do condi bursts or covering conditions
In WvW maybe you could use condis in zergs, but in anything smaller scale condi effectiveness just falls down very rapidly for the reasons reikken said before. D/D Earth used to be very good for bleeding targets but it isn’t anymore.
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
All classes lvl 80.

Oh my … Dahir is right. Yes your can´t burst, convert and send condis like a reaper but you have enough cover options and its a sustained fight…. But maybe we win only by surprise ….
I used to play condi in wvw like 2 years ago. Biggest thing is no one expects you to run condi so they end up wondering why burn ticks for 3k. The constant reapplication of burn makes them run out of cooldowns. Its also fairly easy to kite a condi ele. Not enough stat options to run it in pvp

I run S/F with precision food. They expect fresh air …. OPS
before this meta i had an alt who i used to play perma earth attunement for stoneheart
and i used bleeds and burns, signets gave a pretty decent spike (back then)
it wasn’t the best build back then but it could beat most things 1v1
power creep has left it behind however, i doubt it would work.
yes signets got outdated. Shouts and cantrips rule, rest is left behind.

I used same or close to the same build but with trait that gave fire aura on activation removed it doesn’t work
Not sure what game mode you’re planning to play a condition spec ele in..
For WvW, you’re best to run Celestial if you still want good condition damage. It is the best “all around” set up for Ele. Burning in fire hits pretty nicely when running dagger/warhorn, but you also get decent damage and great survivability with it.
For PvP, short answer is no – condition ele is not really a thing and would be a major waste to try to run. You don’t have enough condition up time to make it worth running.
For PvE? Go nuts, you can run anything in PvE because its boring and requires no skill.

This is false, but
condi ele is actually good in pve because you don’t have to worry about things cleansing your burn stack or avoiding your fire fields
I meta (yawn-fested) my way to soloQ legend in spvp, I’m mostly looking for a WvW build for roaming and zerg.
I do run celestial with staff and d/f. Str/energy on staff, and another staff with bloodlust/energy. Dagger is leeching, focus is energy. Trooper runes. I love tempest. I get a crap ton of extra condi damage from easily applicable might. I just want a 3rd set that gives me condi options as a fun new toy. yaknowwhatimsayin’

My friend, let me introduce to you a build I’ve posted on this site before, and one that most roamers in EU hate to play against. This is my condi ele build for wvw.
Before you guys say ele has no alternative build other than auramancer or celestial bullshi, instead of actually trying it for yourself, I’d advise you to be quiet.
Enjoy.
Or you can use a good build for WvW.

Now my ele build at melee range (which you should always be if you’re in a fight) is going to be sitting at 99.38% damage reduction at almost all times. Every aura you apply to yourself gives you regen, which clears conditions. You also get protection that gives you that nice 40% damage reduction, which I manage to keep pretty much 100% up time of.
So you get to kill stuff, not die and laugh even in 2v1s pretty easily.
Fun little video for ya: https://www.twitch.tv/asphyxiaxt/v/60267683
Fortunately, 99.38% damage reduction is not something you can get without rite of the great dwarf. Protection and frost aura stack, but rune of the scrapper and geomancer’s defense don’t stack additively with them. Protection + frost aura = -50%. Adding geomancer’s defense makes it -55% rather than -60%.
The problem with condi builds, condi in sPVP is an attrition war, you have to able to survive 10-15s to be able to kill somebody, Necro’s with Shroud are much better on this.
When I play condi, I don’t have the survivablity of the attrition and I don’t have other damaging conditions like Necro or Mesmer, so I am lacking the damage.
So you have to go hybrid and have some power damage, so basically you need power/precision/condi damage/vitality/healing in your gear and guess what there is no such gear.
So idea/build born death….
Yes in sPvP its quite slow in killing compared to necro and you loose support for the larger fights. In WvW roaming its working much better, especially you can add celestial pieces and the new wanderer is also an option to be mixed in.
But it is not horrible. I swap between two versions depending on oposing team.
If i see lots of necro´s and mesmers i use sage amulet and go for water to double cleanse on aura shouts. If i see losts of DH+Druids or no necros i swap to fire and wanderers goning tempestious aria. Rune is always soldier. I would like diffrent runes but ….
Here the water version. (of couse sage is wrong in the builder …)
WvW: (This is largely similar to the wanderer sPvP version using soldier rune)
Shure i prefer a more agressive equipement. Against condi builds that apply multiple condi bombs my wvw build gets in trouble.

Scrapper much better?
OP wants to make a condi build and you guys are posting meta power/celestial builds like sheep (not you wolfric). And people wonder why there’s no build diversity; it’s because people like you don’t want to experiment and play something new.
What i did recognized: My non healing fire/earth/tempest that even doesnt use water in his rotation (very low usage) is higly efficient against power builds. This is clear because i developed it with arcane last summer to counter the zerker meta. For me the fire nerfs did hit my non metabuild :-(. I do testing with arcane instead of fire but am not convinced. It´s definitly good but doesn´t feel so ^^. I rock very well in WvW roaming. I don´t care about Zerging. I have a wanderer staff in my backpack if realy needed.

Thanks for the continued replies fam. I’ve been playing around in build editor for a bit. I’m leaning toward a boon duration staff build at the moment. It is not condi. lol
This is where I’m at so far: Boon Balance
Also very nice. I would go with full commander armor and flash freeze not mistform. Cleave them dead no stomping :-)
More agressive boonspam version :-). You have no healing power annyway.
How much would you actually be healing with the draining sigil? Isn’t it just static and unsteady ground interrupting?
draining sigil steals 1030 hp. Probably very effective with staff in wvw since it appears to have no cooldown.

Adding a few celestial pieces if you have will make it a bit more stable. 2600 armor and 15k HP is a very good spot for me.
Dam i start to look at the build …. Looks sweet. Unfortunately the ascendend stuff is to much work …
No cd and works nicely with dagger fresh air build. Sadly not available in pvp though

This build looks legit. thats almost permanent protection for you an allies near you. I prefer building a little less tanky ankitten ot sure how useful 3s of stability would be as opposed to reduced earth cd.
Bad Elementalist
You might need it to use aether renewal for cleanse. As staff user earth CD´s are not so important like running focus.
You know you can overload water in mist form?
I like mist form because anyone targeting thinks they’ve killed you and you’re in vapor form, so you can sometimes bait out more cds and not waste your dodges and lightning flash.

You can overload in mistform, however, it will cancel the overload once you are out of mistform. I cried a few times doing this in air overload

I can confirm the potency of this build. I use dire armor instead of travelers and it is a blast to play in wvw. I also used it to go to saphire with a 10-1 win loss ratio with Sage amulet. I know saphire doesnt prove viability but I felt it had potential to go higher, I just don’t have much play time.
I found the build on these forums, props to the creator.

Protection 1.4 (40%, got that?)
Frost Aura 1.1
Food 1.1
From Trait 1.1
Scrapper rune 1.07
1.4 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.07 = 1.993838, which is 99.38%.

Scrapper much better?
I like the scrapper runes for the damage reduction and the power/toughness gains personally, especially since I am running fell celestial. The effects of the auras would be awesome to have, but I would lose too much power and toughness to make it worth while on my build.
How much would you actually be healing with the draining sigil? Isn’t it just static and unsteady ground interrupting?
I run dagger/warhorn, so I have the air 4 knock down, air 3 stuns when people hit me which interrupts, air over load interrupts a lot and water 4 interrupts. So I do get a decent bit of heals and damage when I am in air because of it, but it really only does me a lot of good in air.

Okay I mean you’re welcome to come to my guild hall arena and attack my ele and see that you do little to no damage.
This is a build I created a few months ago….its actually not too bad, most people just don’t expect it.
I’ve started using this. Still in the testing phase but I find it sufficiently tanky and has good burn and bleed application. I basically bounce between fire and earth attunements. In earth with Stone Heart power builds usually can’t do much to me.
1,600 condition damage in SPVP. If you use Runes of the Undead you can get up to 1,700.
You’re doing math incorrectly. You don’t add percentages, you multiply.

Indeed you do multiply. But these are damage reductions, not damage increases. You don’t take (1+0.4) = 1.4x damage when you have protection. You take (1-0.4) = 0.6x damage.
0.6 * 0.9 * 0.9 * 0.9 * 0.93 = 0.406782 = 59.3% damage reduction
However, frost aura, protection, and food all stack additively:
(1-0.4-0.1-0.1) * 0.9 * 0.93 = 0.3348 = 67.5% damage reduction
I’m not sure if scrapper rune and earth trait stack with each other, because the difference is extremely small, but for that same reason, it also doesn’t matter.
Also where is your source that the trait and scrapper runes don’t stack?
meticulous independent testing
Unless Anet specific says they don’t stack, I doubt that they don’t stack. I’ve had a friend hit me with a level 1 weapon and no armor on a level 80 character in my guild hall with and without scrapper runes on and there was a different in damage. Granted, not a ton, but its 7%.
There used to be a settler staff dps build for elementalist using Icebow and Earth Shield. But, it was pre-HOT, but Icebow got nerfed, settler amulet got deleted, diamond skin got reworked.
Condition elementalist is usually better during a non-condition meta, and most traits implying conditions are in need for a rework that will never happen.
Condition variety: poor
Condition burst: High
Sustained Condition: medium
yes, chrono condi mesmer is great
