Q:

Ele is the one class ive never really looked at or played. Lately when im roaming, I see these high CC, high mobility, high damage eles. This is a lot like my current playstyle, my Ham/GS warrior. im just wondering how viable a build like this is. Ive never played ele at all, so im pretty noob. id just like a general critique.

Pretty glassy build.

That build wouldn’t hold up for an average ele in a 1v1 and never in a 1v2 situation.

That has average mobility, decent damage, and low sustain.

I’ve personally run 0/10/10/20/30 quite a lot but with different traits. It can be good, you’ve just got to change a few traits.

I don’t really see what you mean by low mobility. That seems like the highest mobility I can get with ele. And as for glassy, well 2600 armor isn’t bad. maybe its different for ele idk. And seems like ele has good sustain just from swapping to water. so I don’t really understand you there either

You do not possess Windborne dagger, which limits your maximum speed given that your swiftness uptime is at max 6.5/11 seconds from air attunement plus 13/40 from Updraft. Armor is atypically high for an ele, but lack of healing power limits your ability to reheal over time via the water/arcane skills. General lack of vitality makes your build prone to instagibs. Damage is good but the lack of a reliable way to Blast might limits it.

Overall, the fresh air dual dagger variety will outperform this in mobility, underperform it in damage, and underperform it in survivability. Gear wise, swapping out some Knight gear for Soldier gear will increase survivability at the expense of critrate. Given that your build only uses crits for damage and oncrit vigor, the reduction in critrate can be compensated by converting 2 ruby orbs to any pair of +15% boon duration runes.

Lack of ability to proc higher amounts of boons for friendlies makes this more a PvP type focused build; this will be substandard for dungeon runs, but superior to the FA type build.

Most of the time, eles will be getting much more out of vitality than toughness. Currently, you’re sitting at roughly 14k hp, which while it isn’t particularly bad for an ele, is still somewhat lacking defensively, especially since you are used to playing a warrior. I believe the current good amount if you want to have acceptable survivability is 16k (I’m pretty used to being murdered by everything, so I personally sit at about 12-14k, but I do not recommend this to anyone that does not enjoy Dark Souls).
I do not recommend ruby orbs. Classic d/d is 2 water, 2 monk, 2 traveler’s (or another boon duration rune), so that you get very high boon time. This helps with might stacking and elemental attunement. Many substitute this with scholar’s for the burst, or another type.
You seem to have traiting basically right for d/d, though personally I would lose bolt to the heart (it doesn’t help as much as you would initially think) and take zephyr’s boon (for permafury and permaswiftness) or 30 water so that you can get cleansing water (if you do this, you might want to take soothing disruption over cleansing wave as well for a condition remove on cantrip use).

Don’t be afraid to experiment, the above is mostly a starting point that you can branch off of. It’s the closest thing you can get in ele to a low-skillfloor build, though you will still get stomped badly while you’re getting used to it.

this is my generic earth water mage, i think it’s a serious problem that i have to blow 3 major traits in earth to get some semblance of condition offense.. it’d be the same if i went defense.. and now that i look at it, it’s the same in water for adequate cleanses.. wouldn’t be much of an issue if elementalist didn’t have the worse base stats.. anyway, it’s generic and enough to keep me from getting 1 shotted.. is it viable, thoughts?

also, i could go into arcane or use utilities to get the best out of condition.. but i’m not an arcanist.. and of course there is fire line, but i’d be sacrificing trait points from more defensive lines.. in that case i would just go glass canon power build wouldn’t i.. i realize the last patch was a step toward fixing such issues, but it was a rather small step wasn’t it? sry, for the rant

This guy knew what I was talking about completely.

You picked all damage traits. You’ll change them to boon traits as you learn.

Move 20 points from arcane to earth and another 10 to air for air training trait and you’re set. But this build requires more than slamming on your face on the keyboard that is the standard 0/10/0/30/30
So if you’re new I wouldn’t recommend this set up.
