No matter what game I join, there are always 3 or more thieves. In this one alone, there are 7. 5 on the enemy team. It is getting to the point that even with 3000 armor, I die in a few seconds from 3 – 4 of them all spamming backstab, C&D, steal, Heartseekers, etc. Even with my Aura on, it does no good vs all of them.

Do your matches look anything like this one?

Thief is most balanced class in game and there is nothing to nerf (sarcasm). Thats why we see teams 1/2 consist from thieves in sPVP. And thats why only viable elementalist build for sPvP is bunker.

Considering sPvP encompasses all the servers, I would think “yes,” this is the same for all servers (cause it IS all servers).

And yeah, there are WAY too many thieves in sPvP, it’s making it unfun, lame, and predictable, even if I can usually handle them on my bunker Ele…

I remember once where there was me as my ele and a warrior and the rest of the teams were made up of thieves.

In the greater blob of things, there is only the zerg.

I had an sPvP match where the enemy team had 5 thieves and 2 mesmers and mine had me (ele) 4 warriors and 2 necros

It was so great.

This has happened to me before, both teams were mostly thieves. Since the update I’ve noticed a few games with lots of eles. tPvP with me and my friend (both eles) gives us an extra ele or 2 each match (pug).

You have to remember, the majority of people doing sPvP are doing it in the random matches not tournaments (and now paid tournaments), in those its generally every man for himself so ganking rules the map. Thieves happen to be about the best gankers in the game and Ele one of the best ganking targets.

In a proper organized team, the Ele will have some form of backup to help their suriviability so less likely to get picked off by an enemy assassin.

As for why there are so many thieves, rogue is always a popular class and its “easy” to learn as well, stealth, stab, repeat and in random matches that will work 90% of the time, in organized matches not nearly so well and the glass cannon “1 shot” thieves will have a really bad day.

can’t really think of a fix to this short of buffing Ele survivability (which may overpower in regards to non-gank classes) or to weaken thief burst which is all they have for the most part. The best fix would have been to not have a stealth/gank class in a highly PvP focused game in the first place, it never works out well for either the ganker or the gankee (one will always be unhappy).

There’s a bit of a silver lining. Because there are so many thieves I’ve actually gotten a lot of practice fighting them so I kinda know what to expect. Coversely there aren’t too many dd eles out there so it’s easy to confuse the enemy with my bag of tricks.

Thieves will probably get nerf just because the numbers obviously show a player preference. Though I think Anet is doing the right not rushing to nerf.

Bads always kitten out on Flavor toons. AoC=Assassins. SWToR=Agents

The rougue class is always incredibly OP and underskilled in every MMO at some point, in GW2, it’s just at release. 6 months from now some other class will be OP and Theif players will be crying. That’s the nature of MMO’s. Just stick with the class that suits you and find ways to still counter the FoTM baddies, that’s the mark of a successful player.
