Hey guys and gals of the forum that is guild wars (2).

I have been looking high and low, for a good build working with Earth and Air (I like the ‘tankiness’ of earth and the mobility of air. I know you are ment to play using all of your elements, but fire seems very hmmm, glass cannony for my likely.

I want something I can put my head down and level, so I can finally join WvWvW on somewhat of an equal footing.

I thank you all in advanced.

Random comment:
Earth is condition (Bleed), and any build that is good for Earth would mean you should work Fire (Burn) into your rotation anyway.

You can’t just use two elements, because the cooldown is longest on an attunement you just switched out of.

I suggest getting Staff then utilizing the staff skills of earth and air.You will find that you can combo them quite well and it should help you a great deal. And if you feel like it, mess with some conjure options to keep things fresh for ya.

Good point, my good sir. I will bear that in mind, trying to get my head around everything, dont like (but also like) being a noob at a game, hence the questions.

For leveling up, will you be soloing or grouping?

For soloing I rather like Scepter and Dagger with Fire (damage, burns, crits) and Earth (protection) with Arcane Shield, Elemental Pet and that one which removes effects (which I swap out for Mist if I’m exploring). I get the stacking Mights from dropping a Ring of Fire and then casting Dragon’s Tooth and Phoenix. I

For grouping, that’s Staff all day long and all the various Static and Water fields and finishers. Very different playstyle though.

Which of course is why I love this profession

Good advise, it will be for soloing, as all my mates are already level 80 (Sadly I am the one with the job lol), So if you are mainly playing in fire (or Earth when things start to get out of hand) this would mean you are speccing into fire?

I’m not sure you should ignore fire just like that, it’s all damage but you can mitigate that a lot with your utilities and traits. For myself, until I hit a higher level anyway, I’m finding inscription, quick glyphs and elemental attunement invaluable. They add huge amounts of protection, regeneration and switftness as and when I need it. The abilities they are stacked on are great and I really don’t feel so squishy when standing in the middle of an earthern glyph of storms with 9s protection, 22s regeneration and all of my attacks adding chilled, weakness or crippled as the situation demands.

It seems I may have dismissed fire too soon by the sounds of it, when you say “quick glyphs” are they something you obtain via inscription or am I just being a tart?

I mentioned this earlier in chat, but just so this isn’t hanging Quick Glyphs is a 10 Air trait, Inscription is a 20 Air trait and Elemental Attunement a level 10 arcane trait.

Chain it all together in Earth and you can get 23 seconds protection, which is long enough to rechain some skills into 34 seconds protection. I wouldn’t recommend that kind of monomania, it can be interrupted and you’ll eventually stall but the net effect is a (relatively) pleasing amount of survivability in PVE.
