Hello everyone,

I had a few questions about how exactly Lightning flash works in terms of its pathing. From my experience in PvE and WvW, I am very conservative with where I LF to. I have tried CE—>LF within a WvW keep, and had it fail when picking a point part-way up a set of steps, or many times had it fail when picking a point up a gentle slope. However, watching PvP streams, I have seen many of them use LF to get to points that are separated by significant veritcal distances, which I know should fail from my experience.

So my questions:
-Are the pathing rules different in PvE/WvW and PvP?
-Are the areas of WvW that can be LF to that aren’t 100% horizontal?
-What are the exact rules for LF working, and what causes failure, exactly?

Lightning Flash is a Shadow Step, not an actual teleport like Guardians. Keeping this in mind, here’s the rules as I have found so far.

Using pathfinding to determine distance, you can teleport to anywhere unaltered pathfinding can get to depending on the route it has to take.

Keeping this in mind, and the fact that path finding seems to mess up for some reason on stairs, corners, and different elevations, it gives you a better reasoning to why it just doesn’t freaking work half the time.

Basic tips:
Don’t use it on/thru stairs.
Don’t change elevation.
Don’t try to go over a gap.
Don’t try to get to something that you cannot walk to without jumping over (sometimes even low walls).

There /are/ some exceptions to this, but it’s only in certain areas it seems.
