Hello ELE forums. Looking for some good advice.
I have had an 80 ele for a while now, just haven’t done much with him.

After waching aeroplanejellys Yolo vid, it inspired me to give it another try.

I am looking for a tried and true D/D or S/D build for WvW.

Can anyone tell me why someone would choose Focus over dagger in a S/ build?
I look at the skills on focus and I just don’t get it.

Focus is great for defensive capabilities, Condi clear, immunity, as well as air 5 to land your one shot burst. I personally roam as s/f solo and in small groups with great success. Dagger is pretty much all offense with little to no defense so it’s risky to take over the focus. pkus come on, it’s hilarious to earth 4 and watch a LB ranger kill himself. Here’s my build, I throw in the cele/soldiers gear just for some extra hp.

Would a D/D build be an easier beginner build?
Would I be tougher? Harder to kill? So far, the hardest thing I am finding is that I am so so soft. Ridiculously soft. A npc hits me for 1/5th of my health just running by.

I leveled crafting just so I could craft ascended celestial gear. And you don’t use it.

I want to take camps solo. When you solo, do you do that?

It’s not hard, especially with D/D.
Run a 0/2/0/6/6 trait setup, or 0/0/2/6/6 if you require more sustain. Always use III, IX, XI in water and II, VIII and XI in arcana.
Have half of your gear celestial (All stats) and the Other half Knights or Clerics (Power toughness X).
Repeat this rotation in supply camps.
Fire -> Earth -> Water -> Air
Make the last skill you use while attuned to fire, Ring of Fire. Then switch to earth directly after that and dodge roll, and use magnetic grapple & leap. Switch to water and use Frozen Burst. This all will stack plenty of might as long as it is all done within the Ring of Fire. Be quick in water and Earth, so you can switch back quickly later to get your heal or protection boon. Spend most of your time in Air or Fire.

I can take on two people for ages with this, and kill them if they don’t immediatly res each other.

Yes. Yes. Yes. D/D Cele is a strong sustain+pressure build. When I solo camps as D/D Cele I switch Renewing Stamina to Blasting Staff and just Staff instead.

With the build I linked that I run, yes, you are very squishy as the majority of it is zerker gear. If you want, you can sub in pieces of soldiers to tank up a bit while you get a feel for the playstyle then sub back to zerker once you’re confident with it. I’m able to solo all camps and take outnumbered fights with great success. Keep in mind, I’ve played ele quite a bit and play ele spvp at a high level so I’ve gotten the muscle memory down for my skills and know all weapon sets quite well. It will take practice but you can get there!

D/D imo would be easier to play and that could use the ascended cele gear you crafted. One thing though is that build will also not have as much burst potential and require some extra time to down a target – time in which help can arrive for the enemy, so that’s one risk you take with a higher sustain build.

-Chaotic, Just a couple things going against me. One, I’m super new to ele so I would want to start something easier at first and move into harder builds. 2, you guys can’t help this one, my ping is just horrible at times, I’m doing good if its in the 200s-300s, regularly its 6 times that. So playing the softest class with the softest build with some bad internet just really screws me over.
