Looking for a Staff WvW Zerg DPS Build
Use the new healing skill Arcane Brilliance when it is released. If you don’t care about team support at all (you should) you may switch the runes for something else. If you can’t afford Celestial armor, a mix of Cleric’s and Sentinel’s/Soldier’s armor is a decent alternative.
Find a way to fit Blasting Staff into your build. After the 10th, it will require only 10 points into Arcane, and the extra radius is great for Lava Font and Meteor Storm against zergs.

If you try to run zerker in WVW you are going to get one shotted a lot, dodging isn’t enough as you can’t see the thieves or people behind you. The build that Neko posted is what i use except the 10 points are in air to give me more mobility. One word of warning on that build… the armor is kitten expensive to craft and time consuming.

also consider:
20 earth – rock solid ensures you can get your meteor shower and heals off. without it, enjoy being pulled off the wall or knocked down by the hammer train while casting your primary dps spell.
20 water – because Anet forces you to take this by giving you bad stats.
20 arcane – for blasting staff and elemental attunement
10 points to place where you want.
You want to do dps, get the dps stats from your gear alone. The dps trait lines arent worth it for staff. Also remember, Arcane Wave IS NOW RANGED AOE.

Thanks for all the advice from everyone. After spending a lot of time looking at many, many builds I realize there is no good reason to go 30pts into fire magic.
I have been rocking a build very similar to this, and it has pretty much done what I wanted to do—minus getting all the expensive gear.

Here’s what I run:
30/10/0/10/20 w/ Pyro Alacrity, your choice of the two GM traits. Bolt to the heart in Air, Vital Striking in Water, and Blasting Staff in Arcane.
Come tomorrow, that will become 30/10/10/10/10 as blasting staff moves down to Adept, so you can take Earth Stone Splinters.
Use Full Zerk with Scholar Runes
Slot Skills I recommend Glyph of Storms, Mist Form, and Signet of Air
Have two zerk staffs with Bloodlust and Force respectively, switch to force once you have all your stacks. Use Food and Oil as you see fit — kinda expensive that Spicy Butternut Squash Soup.
And no, there are a lot of good reasons to run 30 Fire. Don’t listen to all these naysayers.
By time consuming, i mean the charged crystals can be made once a day and you will need 30 of them, and to make the 30 charged crystals you will need 750 quartz crystals. Also most of the trinkets are bought with laurels or doing fractals. I have a full set of celestial gear and they really did add it to the game just for elementalists, no one else wants it but it works so well on us.
So yes, love the ele before investing a lot of time into this.
Depends on the WvW server you play on. If you are on tier 1, you will be rally bait running that build since people there actually know how to properly pressure the backlines. It doesn’t matter how good you are at positioning, full glass is not enough sustain to keep you alive against organized guilds.
I just theorycrafted this great build based on the new patch
30 fire (V, VI, XI) crits inflict burning / 10% bonus dmg on fire / fire field finishes give fury
20 air (I, VII) zephyrs boon, 10% crit dmg for 15 seconds after using an arcane spell
10 water (VI) +10% damage when above 90% hp
10 arcane (VIII new blasting staff)
scholar runes / full zerk
new heal or ether renewal
lightning flash, mist form, arcane wave (replace lightning flash for frost bow if you want more ridiculous dps. arcane shield is also worth considering because you’ll be very vulnerable to getting picked off)
eruption into lava font / arcane wave (plus heal if needed) = lots of fury, then cast meteor and laugh as you hit 7k+ per meteor. Add tornado if you want for overkill.
Remember that the 25 point trait in fire will now add 10% bonus damage to burning foes.
