Hello gentlemen,

I’m starting to level an elementalist, i plan to build for WvW zerging and Pve dungeon farming.

Which build/utilities/weapons/armor is the most efficient if i wanted to level to 80 using a mix of WvW and pve soloing (getting yellow hearts/vistas etc)?

Thnx in advance

Staff is your best friend for WvW zergs and PvE dungeons. Build/gear is up to you, whether you want to maximize damage or have a mix of survivability damage.

I’ll go through zerker staff setup:
Traits:
> 25-30 points in Fire – Internal Fire, Pyromancer’s Alacrity, Persisting Flames, etc
> 20-30 points in Air – Bolt to the Heart, Arcane Lightning, etc
> 10 points in Water – Vital Striking
> 10 loose points – Stone Splinters (Earth), Blasting Staff (Arcana) or rest into Fire/Air.

Slot skills:
> Arcane Wave/Blast (or both) for instant damage + blast finisher
> Optional Frost Bow for crazy AoE burst or Glyph Of Lesser Elementals for a pet
> Signet Of Fire for extra crit chance or Arcane Shield for extra survivability.

Healing slot is up to you. I have always stuck with Ether Renewal for it’s short cooldown, decent heal and awesome condi cleansing.

Weapon sigil:
> Force or Fire. If you really want to maximize, have Scepter+Dagger in inventory with dual-Bloodlust sigils (not cheap). After 25 stacks switch to Staff for INSANE damage, just make sure you don’t get downed :P

This is my current build tailored to my taste: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vEAQFAWhMMKbW9wlBfEBApAKhHEwQBCFWARpwOA-zgxAYLAqAQyrIasF3ioxqrxUuER1AA-e

I love Blasting Staff too much to give it up for extra damage :P

Staff balanced/survival build:
Just sink more points into Water/Arcana and wear toughness gear (cavaliers, celestial, etc). It would look something like this:

Dekeyz on youtube. She will tell you how to roll an ele

She usually rolls with LH builds which I would never recommend for a new player, and especially not WvW. LH is extremely group-dependent to function properly.

Staff can do solid DPS regardless of the situation and lets you focus on the fight due to simple rotations.

I don’t think she suggests LH build for WvW.

Anyway, there’s nothing wrong with LH build for new players. In fact, it’s one of the easiest playstyles for open world. The only downside is it doesn’t encourage new players to get used to the Ele’s mechanic.

  • Staff build has an early access to all the necessary damage modifiers when compared to other builds. Take Internal Fire, Vital Striking and Bolt to the Heart when unlocking the first book, Pyromancer’s Aclarity and Arcane Lightning for the second book. When the OP is 60, you can unlock the third book and try out other different builds. Fresh Air and Evasive Arcana, which are pivotal to numerous D/F, S/F or D/D skills are only accessible with the third book. Another option is Persisting Flame to boost the staff damage significantly.
  • Crit chance/damage is badly scaled at low level, as your starting gears only provide a small bonus of precision and no crit damage. A sub 40 will find it increasingly difficult to melee in the open world with Lightning hammer while dealing with both ranged and melee enemies. Learning how to group them up, deal damage and survive is the must. Sometimes it’s OK to stay at 600 range (not 1200) to avoid getting cleaved by mobs.
  • OP can tag pretty well with staff in WvW. Take Glyph of Storm and Ice Bow for more AoE damage.
  • If OP has friends to help with dungeons. You can start leech in any dungeons as soon as you hit level 30 and unlock Fiery Greatsword. A lowbie ele can be useful in providing aoe fields, might stacking and conjure weapons, even though most of your hits will end up ‘glancing’ >.>
