I created a Necro guild not too long ago for teaching Necromancers that actually became quite effective ingame, I have helped/aided over 90+ new Necros. What I need, is for good Elementalists (Or bad ones willing to learn) to step up, and join the guild (there is no need to represent) to teach/aid new players upon request. If you wish to give your expertise back to the community, to help players learn a class and get better at PvP/PvE/WvW, please use this application and either

  • PM it to me, or post it here:
  • In game name:
  • What class(es) do you play as your secondary/tertiary:
  • Are you applying as a teacher, or a student:
(If you are applying for a teaching position, please answer the following questions. Student position applicants may ignore these)
  • How many hours on your class do you have:
  • How many builds have you theory crafted:
  • Would you consider yourself a good contributor to your community:
  • Are you friendly/helpful:
  • Would you be willing to prove your skill/knowledge ingame:

The best player/teacher that applies will eventually be given control of the school.

I hope to grow this idea to further benefit the community, and I appreciate any help/feedback.

Contact me ingame for Necro, Ranger, Mesmer, and Thief advice.

I would like to put my hand up, but 2 jobs. Maybe as an offside thing for pvp side.

In game name:
Sophea Of Elements

What class(es) do you play as your secondary/tertiary:
In order: Warrior, Ranger, Neckro, Thief, Engineer

Are you applying as a teacher, or a student:
Part time Teacher, and student (don’t know everything, good to get others perspective on their class).
(If you are applying for a teaching position, please answer the following questions. Student position applicants may ignore these)

How many hours on your class do you have:
Uhm …. Release till now whilst working 2 jobs, not ingame

How many builds have you theory crafted:
One, pvp build, I don’t theory craft stats, only the build and playstyle

Would you consider yourself a good contributor to your community:
I hope so, unless Anet doesn’t buff the Focus.

Are you friendly/helpful:
Yes

Would you be willing to prove your skill/knowledge ingame:
Sure

My turn:
Is this NA or EU?
If this is EU then take my name of the list and discontinue reading.

Do you accept people not from NA playing on NA (such as Australia, our time zone is very different)?

What do you mean by theorycraft … those crazy people who post all the stats and how 1 more point of precision will give you this much more damage? Or the laid back guys that put the traits together and proceed to use the build with all amulets until they find one that works well?

Do you find that stratergies are required for certain builds classes, not just a standard dps rotation?

Do you want PvP only teachers or someone who knows everything.
To answer this, I used to play TPvP. I was never a high rank and I didn’t enjoy it at all. Currently I play Hotjoin and Dueling, much more fun, I can run whatever build I want and I can try whatever I want. If you want someone to give TPvP advice I have some, but it isn’t my current cup of tea. If you want someone for general pvp, getting started, build strategies and what not, I can sure help out.

Finally some other questions you may want to ask applicants in the teaching roll:
-What weapons are you familiar with on the Elementalist?
This is important, because some people only play D/D for example and only know about the others, haven’t had any experience in those fields. Personally I have played Dagger main, Dagger offhand, Scepter main and Focus offhand.

-Do you currently run with your own build, or are you using someone elses?
A big question in regards to the FOTM builds. Did I copy Dapheonix’s build? Did I always run that build. No, I ran a similar build and took inspiration from Dapheonix’s build to come up with a build I found quite fun (if not optimal).

-Do you condone using FOTM builds and having no insight of your own?
Are you going to take a teacher who has copy pasted their build and playstyle from the forums, or some who knows what they are talking about. For example Dapheonix, he knows what he is talking about.

Bad Elementalist -NA
Teacher/student
I have logged over 600 hours on an ele. I would like other perspectives on playing against condi builds (necro, engi)

I have tested many variations of the cookie cutter build and know what generally works in each set up for all weapons.

I am friendly and can be helpful

NA, but we also accept EU applicants, though they are tougher to manage.

Yes.

Theorycrafting includes creating an idea, or role for a specific build, testing, processing, etc. Essentially the production phase of a build.

Of course.

All teachers of all gametypes are welcome. However I find that tPvP players generally make the best teachers, and personally I start off many of my students in the Necro school in PvP, so that they can theory craft/learn without having to spend ridiculous amounts of gold.

As for those other questions, I save those for ingame testing.

Contact me ingame for Necro, Ranger, Mesmer, and Thief advice.

Cool beans. Sign me up as part time, I should be on later today sometime, though be advised it will be midday-ish for you (if I got the time right lol). Sorry if I sounded a bit like a baby cat, but to help the ele community we need people who like help eles grow, from their own experience, not just copy what someone else has said, there would be not point as there is the forums for that.

Right? I’ve spent soooo much money and have 6 sets of gear and then the cost for the bags to carry all that gear!

I have 1 set of gear for my 80 ele, infact, the skins I brought for that gear cost more then the gear did lol. You can tell I’m hardcore PvE

I have…

Magic Find + Magic Find (Heritage)
PvT/Divinity + Knight/Celestial (Priory – White)
PvT/Boon (HoTW Armor)
Zerker/Ruby + Zerker Ascended (Human T3)
Shaman/Boon + Passiflora (Priory – Blue)
Carrion/Condi Duration + Carrion (COF and Hellfire)

Tons of weapons for each with different runes and stats too. I also had a set of Clerics (replaced with Shaman/Boon cause I found I was more survivable in Shaman with Passiflora) and a set of Rampagers (replaced with Carrion after I couldn’t pull off the lack of survivability or crit dmg to my tastes on my Condi build).

Lots and lots of testing WvW viability.

Its unfortunate that the mists don’t offer a WvW training area, or that WvW doesn’t offer this, where you can mix and match gear for free. Using a build editor can only give you an idea, using the build is where it all comes down to.

Fortunately for me I intend to run the same build as my pvp build, so its only the stats I need to worry about. Since I don’t intend on doing anything outside of my pvp build I don’t really need more then 2 or 3 sets. Gold Find, Zerker and Cleric (for staff support)

To me it will come down to the skin and how much it costs. Was looking at the Eye of whoever it was taken from sceptre …. so much money, even to make it (time is money, 2 jobs is not much time), back to zenith skins :/. Definantly going for Cultral T3 but atm I will stick with Winged Chest Sholders and Gloves and Feathered Pants, Boots and Head. Dyed Violet and Illustrious? (the gold colour).

BTW, I hate white dye with a passion. In guildwars 1 you had to mix dyes to make a certain colour. I made whit with 3 silver and 1 gold. Then white dye came out about a month later … all of my armour could be dyed for the price of 1 of those mixed dyes. Now I stick with purple dye, cheaper to buy them all then buy white lol.

Unfortunately the only real way to test a build is until you’ve gone “Zerg Diving” (where your team in a giant zerg rushes straight through the other Zerg) and see how you fare. That method has shown me a lot of holes in other builds/setups I used.

Maybe if the WvW area had some gauntlet of damage, condition application and CC going on to see how well you do/react running through it haha?

I don’t use just solid white. I use a Charcoal base (faded black) with White Gold and Tarnished Silver which are white but off white slightly. Actually looks pretty good and it’s current my favorite set for looks. My other sets look like this:

I’m not ingame so I can’t post a screen. My ele is Violet Winged shoulders, chest and arms and feathered pants, booties and helm. Off colour is Illuminate? gold.

I don’t play wvw, so I don’t need to test there (yet). I find the best way to test a build (pvp)) is to try 1v1 vs all different builds, then incorporate into 5v5 non zerg hotjoin (hard to find) to see how it runs. However, if I am testing a duel build (2 characters) I will go straight to 5v5 or 8v8 games, zerg or not.
