Make RTL more like Rocket boots
To be fair, rocket boots takes up a very valuable slot (especially on an Engineer who has only 5 weapon skills) and RTL is a skill on a weapon with a lot of utility.
It doesn’t matter anyway. Anet is never going to balance for WvW, and especially not roaming (notice how >50% of roamers are Thieves? If they cared about this at all then such an obvious imbalance would have been fixed ages ago) because they want sPvP/tPvP to be the focus.
Making RTL a 20 second cooldown would throw the balance there completely off, so they can’t do it.
Edit: Although having RTL fly off the ground would be pretty cool!
Exactly how would a 1200 range RTL be unbalanced in pvp? The whole problem was it’s range was 1550 which allowed you to RTL away, heal up without being damaged and go back to the fight. With 1200 range every single class can still damage you or move up to you with their own gap closers.
The ridiculous cooldown is not needed any more with the range decrease.
I think they said the problem was being able to zip around and bunker somewhere for a bit, then take some other point, and basically run around and do everything at once.
Being able to reset fights isn’t that important (IN PVP NOT WvW) or else Thieves and Mesmers would have been smacked with the nerf-bat a lot harder.
Look I’m just playing the devil’s advocate, albeit not very well…
Why is everyone so big on saying bunker ele’s NEEDED a nerf? They most certainly did not need a nerf. A few other classes that sucked in the past needed a buff, that is all.

Yeah, RTL should be reverted, although with a 900 or 1200 range.
So a ele bunker can not be allowed to zip around, but a bunker engi can? Well, well, well..

naw, making an ele take a util slot is actually a buff to some extent, since it accessable to all weapons

Which is why my suggesting it was my round about way of saying that you can’t really pick out a similar or even identical ability on another class and claim we should be similar because the entire class and how it’s balanced must be taken into account.
I am fairly confident that they will up RTL in the future.
Their approach to balancing is twofold:
-Nerfing the OP skills to make them balanced
-Temporarily more nerfing on the OP skills so that people try other skills instead of just sticking to the now balanced skill.

I don’t know about that, Mist form takes one of our slots, and it is worst then DUN DUN DAHHH Obsidian Flesh (focus earth 5). Cleansing Fire takes one of our slots and it is worse then DUN DUN DAHH Magnetic Wave? (focus earth 4). But the focus is bad in general, minus these 2 skills.
RTL used to go forwards (more horizontal then now) now if you use it on a slight slop you take multiple fall damage calculations and die.
