My compliments on tempest
Oddly enough I had more fun playing with scepter in pvp since it was easier to stay out of harms way.
Bad Elementalist
Okay I am going to get so much hate for this but I am still going to say this between all the salty-ness out here:
I love the tempest.
I’ve been doing nothing else but playing it this weekend in PvP and I’ve had great success! Made myself a fresh air tempest build. It offer the same, if not more, damage and burst with much more team based utility and personal survivability!
Now do not get me wrong, it needs polishing. Some traits feel out of place, some things just feel a bit too weak. But overall I love the feeling of it, the playstyle and the results are good. I finally feel elementalist has something new to offer instead of playing mindlessly D/D and kite around.
Anyway, just my compliments to the designer team of this specialisation from me. I like it.
I don’t think most would have an issue with you LIKING the class, that is after all your opinion. What people seem to get angry about is someone posting about balance and someone popping into the thread and saying ‘I like it so it’s fine’. In the end liking a class is all subjective.
Anyway, while tempest need some tweaks at least to be more useful I for one am glad you enjoy the class.
Yeh, I also enjoy this spec and I can see some nice builds tied to it
now the actual problem is, People that say they like the tempest do not have a clear understanding of what is actually important to balance and mechanics. They are wowed by flashy effects or success in pick up groups and basic PvE where even the most unviable builds can work.

Well, its nice to see you everywhere saying that everybody that disagrees with you is wrong cause kitten, Tempest with a few tewaks is a solid spec, and you can do some awesome builds with. Maybe if you could argue your thoughts people will understand which is the problem with tempest

No this is what he is talking about, people who say they like it just dont have a mechanical understanding of competitive viability vs "I can make it work in the low-mid tier level of play. "
Tempest is mechanically bad, and because of this the overloads will have to be borderline OP to compensate. In any pve with interrupt mechanics you cant use overloads without screwing yourself. In SPvP its batkitten nonviable with Mesmer and thief’s throwing interrupts at the slightest movement. In WvW they cannot fill a frontline roll and a staff tempest isn’t going to do kitten. maybe a roaming build but those aren’t really any major impact on WvW anyway. Couple this with a extreme lack of stability and the lowest HP/Armor in the game and a really badly structured trait-line with 3 useless minors to the base ele. It begs the question why you would ever roll it. The Rev herald does a much better job as a support equivalent with boons, the fact overloads are not on demand means you can’t even run it as a hybrid burst healer. And the D/X cele builds are a much better bruiser support hybrid. It has no defined role between support and bruiser and it just isn’t good at any and competing with the best support bruiser spec in the game (also ele) is not defining a new role.

Well hey, people can play Dan Hibiki in street fighter and have fun with him, enjoy success against casual players as well. doesn’t stop him from being the worst character in the game from a mechanical standpoint. Tempest is Dan Hibiki

Not only can you NOT compare a fighting game to an MMO, but also, people don’t have to buy a full-price expension pack to play Dan Hibiki.

wow congrats on missing the point. that is some serious ninja dodging skills to miss that point
The point. You can certainly have fun with something that is mechanically bad. doesn’t stop it from being mechanically bad.

YES! Someone understands me! XD
I’ve been playing Tempest so far and nothing else. It’s pretty fun. And I’ve never been a fan of Scepter (although s/f is one set-up I play often) but I’m enjoying it more in PvE and the few PvP matches I’ve played primarily because it gives me mid-to-melee ranged options. With Warhorn, things feel more mid than melee.
Been playing a defensive s/w in PvP with aftershock, and wash the pain away and in PvE, a hybrid glass s/d.
I definitely have formal complaints but no time to put them to words at the moment.
I also play Scepter and tested tempest as much as i could and i like it. It fits scepter and my playstyle better then water/arcane. Still hard to replace my arcane but feels close.
The main problem for me is i loose damage, speed a stunbreaker and a condition cleaner. When i try to substitute arcane for tempest with shouts, the group support i add feels less valuable. I help more if i am fast in the right spot doing more damage then sharing an aura :-/.
So if i don“t look on overloads much, i need baseline speed so i can get enough out of the shouts, because being forced to use traveler rune or a slot for speed ruins the shout build :-(. This is because the rest of the tempest (overloads and non shout traits) is of no real value in player combat.
So in the end currently tempest is not realy worth taking, but i see hope. Currently i expect till HoT it might work.
