My take on the patch
I’m not so much bummed about the lack of power. I can live with that.
What I’m missing is the fun. Dodging about, creating all kinds of combos was incredibly fun to do. It made for a very versatile build and promoted on the spot decision making. Now I’m back to standing at long range, tossing fireballs.
Nerf EA to bits for all I care, but keep (some of) the blast finishers. It was such FUN to play that way.
I agree that EA created a fun playstyle, but everyone could tell that something was wrong when a single trait redefined the entire playstyle of a weapon with 20 skills. But that’s more of a problem with Staff’s bland playstyle. If people loved rolling in and out with their old Staff + EA build, they should try D/D. It’s different, but there’s a lot of rolling in and out too.
I think we should get a blast finisher rolling trait in the future, but not for EA. Or maybe only for one of EA’s attunement effects (earth?).

To be honest, given the complexity and the high paced gameplay, I got the feeling that it was the way ArenaNet had intended the staff to be played.

Fixing the earth finisher to make it a blast finisher like it should be according to the description, would be an acceptable fix to me.
I agree to the above post – the churning earth dodge should be a blast finisher, just like the skill itself.
30 pts arcane is still mandatory to me since swappin elements as fast as possible is still the best way to play for me. Attune swappin is intergal to Ele, period. This patch did nothing other than ruin the funnest MMO mechanic I ever had in a long long time. It was down right extremely enjoyable to play.
They could have adjusted this trait in a number of ways but instead they opted to ruin it. That’s really lame imo and a cop out.
I also agree that the trait line should be completely reworked as points in arcane is a must for eles. That will be a huge rework and I understand that it will take time. I understand why Anet has not yet gotten there. I have hopes that they will sooner or later, rather sooner of course, so we can get more viable builds.
It took 6 years for them to re-look at eles in GW1, so I guess it will take that long here too.
I fear you may be right, in particular if they only have two staff members working on it…
