The topic title is pretty self explanatory,I’m trying to decide on wether I’m going to lvl up a necro or an ele. I spend most of my game time in WvW and I’ve never really had any real affection for PVE in any game,it has always been about PVP for me.
Up until now I’ve only played the mesmer in WvW,mostly solo roaming.

So,what I’d like from this awesome community is to share your experiences with necros and eles in WvW. I think that by reading the WvW/class experiences from other players viewpoints will help me choose one of these two classes.

Hopefully this topic will not only be useful to me but also too others seeking guidance as well:)

WvW… WvW… Haven’t tried a necro there but I do have an elementalist. I run a mix of zerker and valkirye S/D. I roam with a thief friend and is fun to kill disoriented loners but..
when things get serious like assaulting a keep or zergVzerg big fights all you can do is pick a staff and support your allies with CC.

Haven’t tried d/d bunker but I’ll say without stealth or clones going melee with an elementalist with 5 ppl around is suicidal. Unless you go full healing power in which case will be like if you are not there. hit like a wet noddle.

If you like support go ele by all means. I must say I enjoy when I can land a good meteor shower in combination with my tornado elite. . tons of dmg. Also when I perma lock people so my thief friend can stab them to death. AoE stun, chill field, barrier, inmob.

I don’t know about S/D but with the D/D setup I’ve experienced that they fly all over the place,never really using their auto attacks thus stay (relatively) out of harms way O.o

The biggest challenge will come from an elementalist. Necro play is rather simple. Elementalists have a much higher skill cap tor each in order to play as effective as a mediocre necro.

Compared to your mesmer, necros are totally different. You won’t be escaping or resetting any fights. Elementalists have quite a bit more mobility options than a necro, as well as some more effective crowd control abilities. I am most likely going to be changing my main from my necro to my ele, if only because of the challenge.

I feel that when fighting mobs only guess I’m not skilled enough to pull it with players. But we do have lot of evasion. And trying arcane 30 now (ty Anet for nerfing arcane line). I get pretty much perma vigor I use sigil of energy too. Rarely get hit.

For pvp I must say I feel 1 thing different from my ele to necro I don’t have to do x4 as much to get the same or worst results. See as it’s right now 4 attunes =/= 4 times more efficient. It just mean 4 times more work. Do I enjoy it? well hell yeah!. But can sometimes get frustrating.

So my opinion will be quite one-sided since I have not played necromancers in WvW.

However, I do played quite a lot of Elementalist.

This is a site that had me rethink the opportunities that are presented to me whilst playing as an Elementalist.
As I understand it, the WvW meta is condition-heavy, thus probably favouring the Necromancer. However, I feel like the Ele is in a spot where he can actually do it all.

I have seen insane nukers, impenetrable bunkers, and suffocating conditiontists.

However, and this is important, I recommend the Necromancer because he is more forgiving in his play, and easier to learn and adapt to.

If you want to play Ele, you will have to quickly attunement swap, customize your key-binds and everythan. Its worth it, if you really live and breath the fire and air and earth and stuff. But if you want to occasionally go out there and have a cool time with some friends, Necro will probably do the trick.

Reading the posts it seems that the ele gives a more challenging gameplay due to the attunement swapping and the relatively high skillcap which is required to do “ok” in the game.
The necro seems more like a laid back class,not very challenging since it’s very condition centered,letting the dmg just roll on without you being very active.

And I’m not going to play a class/build which focuses alot on conditions since the gameplay is imo boring,I tried this meta condition mesmer build/PU and it was great at first just hiding in stealth waiting for the enemy to die by your conditions but after a while it just got really boring. So I guess I’ll end up with the ele Thanks for the replies

Elementalist. Don’t roll a necromancer unless you are prepared to be weeping on the floor a lot. They are not very good for roaming in WvW, you can’t escape fights unless the other players let you, their party support is far worse then the elementalist’s, their defensive abilities are garbage and they may be simpler in design, but they are far far from easier to play.

Death Shroud will be your savior and the bane of your existence at the same time.

Despite that, the necromancer does have some very good damage builds. Don’t think thats enough to suggest a necro over a ele though.

I play both and honestly use whatever you have more fun with. I personally find my dps staff elementalist has more options for different situations.
