Hello everyone, im a new player who just reached lvl 80 im playing an Elementalist i love dps and dont want to be an support .
I cant seem to find any builds for a dps elementalist and wanted to ask you guys for a build for big dps .
I dont like d/d and wanted to have a build with tempest so if there are any good builds you guys have to offer please help me !

No advice to give you. The class is broken in this regard when it comes to PvP. There is no middle ground as well when it comes to your amulet selections.

Our base armor is actually less than the standard armor for a lvl 80 mob. The damage increase we take as a result of this varies based on the power level of the opponent, but against an opponent with 2500 power, it’s roughly like 25%ish. That is a significant amount of damage against what is also the lowest health pool class.

In PvE and WvW, you can deal with this somewhat by min maxing stats. Armor and power, due to them being additive increases to singular multipliers and divisors, suffer from diminishing returns. So you can invest a small number of stats into toughness for a large gain while still having plenty of stats left over to invest offensively.

Amulets don’t allow that. To focus on one with toughness means a complete loss in one of the three offensive stats which ultimately has a large impact on your ability to do damage.

Classes like Warrior (Well, before HoT) and Revenant don’t have this limitation, because in addition to having higher base armor and health pools, they are still capable of doing greater damage than we can without the natural penalty to survivability that we incur. Their base armor is only 300ish higher than ours, but that actually counts for a lot, because diminishing returns is almost nil at such low armor levels and thus, going from 1800ish to 2100ish nets a lot of practical difference.

Similar glassy cannons like Thief and Mesmer have tactical ways to defensively avoid damage via use of blinds and stealth (thief) or stealth and clones (thief) that are naturally built into their weapon mechanics. We don’t really have that. Our defensive abilities are typically one use abilities with long cooldowns that are only good for mitigating burst damage (or no damage at all if you poorly time it).

Ranged also counts for very little in this game, because of the abundance of gap closers and the little impact the environment has in being able to tactically use it.

Our survivability comes from sustain and it’s actually really quite powerful. The problem is you can’t have that and damage, because our trait lines are so polarized. Fire and Air offer everything to damage and nothing to survivability where as Water and Earth offer everything to survivability and nothing to damage.

Any middle ground that existed that attempted to balance between balance and survivability largely died when they removed Celestial Amulet.

This is why the elementalist forums are a ghost town.

Yep, no matter what build you have or what tactics you use pretty all good player (starting from diamond →) will stomp on you. Ele feels really broken atm.

If you still really, really, really want to play ele in SPVP only viable option IMHO is s/f with fresh air build you can still get some reapers, zerk rangers and thiefs if you are good.

Näin on.

I’ll take that if it’s the only criticism you have of my post.

I don’t doubt you have success with Fresh Air D/X; lot of people seem to have. But success is always relative and my post was just more general points about the state of elementalist overall in the big scheme of PvP. A whole lot of other classes can, sadly, do damage better and with less limiting factors than we have.

This is actually independent of power, as far as the percent increase

Our survivability comes from sustain

and protection!

Also, being ranged is still a notable advantage. even if less than in many other games

and that’s about all I got

This is actually independent of power, as far as the percent increase

That’s actually correct and a mistake on my part. I did the math to be sure, but diminishing on armor doesn’t influence the percentage decrease on a lower power amount with the equation they use for damage.

Well the main survivability comes from protection. We live and die with it….
And of course when necros bomb you cleanse right …..

I do go miles away from meta build. I am in ruby and my build is still successful. (Well its hard generally and constantly breaks anny win streak but i still hope i won´t go into the much feared MMr hell. Currently i have good fights in solo Q.

What do i do with my ele:

I paly condi with scepter… Strange yes. The build emerged last summer when i wanted to counter zerker meta. (with success).
It´s a tactical build fighting ranged and close if needed.
But i do something important: I look at the oposing team and change my build.
Rune is 90% soldiers. I did test svanir with success when i face a necro army …
I prefer offensive support. Wanderer works well with my tempestous aria setup. I destroy power compositions with it and if i see rangers + guards i smile …
The other setup is sage with diffrent cleanse load depending on necro/mesmer in oposing team. I wanted to play viper but this fails due to being a squish ball …
So i will always do much more damage then classic bunker ele but heal less. I can still keep a team alive if i have the right setup. When going wanderes/aria against 3 necros well .. thats usually a fail ^^.

So i always play ele and want to learn the class best. I like it. I don´t swap classes in pvp but i swap build!
