Hello guys, I’m looking for a new class to main, growing tired of Daredevil who I have been using for Raid Practicing and general map completion and story.

I’ve tried many, many classes, deleted 20 characters in 2 days, and I still can’t decide between Necromancer, Revenant or Eelementalist (leaning towards elementalist since I’ve heard horeror tales about trying to get into parties with Necro and Rev, and I don’t even plan on raiding with Ele yet).

I am asking this mostly concerned about Open World PVE, T1-T3 Fractals and Story content.

I just can’t understand how Elementalist is the top DPS class… I’ll list my doubts and concerns and hope someone can help me find my inner elementalist.

1.- The class seems too squishy and lacks escapes and life regeneration. I got used to the squishyness of the Thief thanks to its per-hit and per-crit life regeneration, and with so many dodges, and high DPS, I never had to worry about taking down tough oponents solo and face to face.

2.- I don’t feel I’m doing high enoug damage. Whereas at level 12 I was already downing oponents on 3 easy hits with D/D Thief or bursting them down with P/P, It takes me several hits and hitting long CD spells in order to take down enemies; not to mention many Human area enemies like the Centaurs are too mobile for my AOEs.

3.- They’ve told me Air Attunement Dagger auto attack should be my highest DPS machine and bread and butter attack, but I take forever in killing and breaking down stuff.

4.- What is actually the best weapon for solo leveling?

1 – It is squishy. You need to avoid dmg. Use your dodges, invuls and blinds. Use protection and regen for smaller hits. Keep your distance with CC and range. And above all, kill things fast.

2 – You should be able to kill quite a few opponents at once with ele. Use your CCs to hold things in place then drop some AoEs on them. If you are not doing good dmg, you might not have good gear or traits set-up.

3 – If you are just killing trash while walking around, sure. If you want to get something down, NO. Ele is about using lots of skills fast (even more at low levels before you get tempest). S/D have great burst in fire. You need to use your attunements wise… At this lvl, use earth for protection and CC, burst with fire/air and recover with water… use all of them!

4 – Lightning Hammer

I am on EU and i like to help new eles :-).
As mentioned the only element ele can camp is fire. Ele is made to play much more active(rective) then other classes. Best skill to kill PvE stuff is overload fire (so tempest …).
I am a player that made one build for PvE and WvW that is only slightly changed in PvE (i use glyph of storms PvE). My build is hybrid and main damage is burning. It can do all but is not optimised for raids or high level fractals which i don´t play.
I pesonaly like playing scepter + focus and use lots of viper gear but dagger would work well with my build too. Staff is power oriented and the fire camper. It has long range but is very difficult against other players.
If you want top DPS on ele you will be squishy but it´s if you want to do the tough group content with trained teams …. So mostly raids.

Attune to fire.

Equip a staff.

I’m not even joking. Mainly courtesy of lava font, fire staff dishes out such awesome area damage that it beats the pants of any single target damage alternatives.

Lava font’s damage is likely so high because in PvP players will typically be smart enough to move off it quickly. But in PvE mobs are incredibly stupid.

I learned to play ele on dagger/dagger setup. It forced me to learn how to use the attunements effectively, how to combo different skills together, and how to sustain myself.

At first, I died. A LOT. With practice and a little research about how to rotate skills/attunements, you’ll get it. It’s a little different than other mmo’s take on the mage, so if you are playing it like a WoW mage, you’ll struggle.
