80 Sylvari Revenant
I’m a skilled Mesmer player looking to expand my game expertise into the realms of elementalists. The idea that they’re “under powered” aside, I would like some input into a DD WvW build I am going to start experimenting with. More specifically, I would like input on armor type and runes.
I want to make an ele that does predictable and consistent, direct damage while excelling in solo and group survivability. I am considering going with a full Soldier (+Power, +Toughness, +Vitality) set of armor. I want to avoid crit damage because it’s less predictable than just power; I believe that an forgoing precision in exchange for defensive stats may be useful. One of my concerns here is that, without crit, I just won’t be doing enough damage.
I intend for this to be both a roaming and a zerging build. Any thoughts? I’m completely new to the ele meta game and this idea could be completely terrible.
I also want to know what you guys might suggest in terms of runes.
Elementalist isn’t viable sorry.
Don’t tell him that. Ele is in a very horrible spot right now, we’re as bad as rangers, but still usuable to a point. You can kill someone if you completely outplay them. You have to be really good to beat an average player on another class, that’s how weak we are now.
Soldier is a good place to start at if you’re not used to the class to get a hang of things. You’ll probably want to swap it out at some point for knight’s, celestial, zerk, cavalier, etc. You’ll need to mix stuff and experiment alot to find the ideal mix of gear for your playstyle. Most commonly used runes are boon duration. 2 traveler, 2 water, 2 monk. You can also go full traveler or full melandru for some of the more tanky builds. Scholar is good for burst builds.
You really will need to experiment alot. We’re horrible in spvp, but try some different stuff out there just to get a general idea so you don’t have to spend a ton of money on gear for wvw.
i got a mix of kniht and soldier stuff, w a 100% uptime protection , fury, swiftness, regen…
its pretty much viable, harder to use then other classes but it is viable and decent, especially if u r in a small group(2-5 ppl)
Me and a couple of guildies run a regen build, using some celestial and soldiers gear, you hit hard with high might stacks and stay high health with 2500 armour 20k hp and 800 healing, its a great way to play an in my opinion completely viable, easily winning 1v2s and 1v3s if you are a tad better really fun and great way to play
if you want to know any more i am on piken – Tovarg spokk

Yes, the point of soaking up a pithy amount of damage so somebody else can get a kill.
Responses like this thread make me wonder if people play the same d/d ele class that I do…
@OP, I use Soldier’s armor, assassin daggers, and celestial trinkets. Boon duration runes. One crit chance sigil, one sigil of battle. Your power will seem low but with an opening rotation with d/d you should be at 15-18 might stacks.
Build I use is 0/20/0/20/30 for roaming. Ele are not bad, players are bad.
If you are feel comfortable with 18k hp (if you get used to playing as a 10k hp zerker this feels like a ton of hp) you can change your armor to Knight’s (more precision) or Cavalier’s (less power, more toughness, crit damage) for something instead of vit.
