Need some advice regarding ascended gear
Whats your end goal? IMO, best to mix and match trying to aim for somehwere between 16.5k to 18.5k of vitality without food with a balance between tuff/pre/cirt%/healing and pow.
I personally don’t like celestial. It’s certainly tempting since the stat value is so high, but I felt too many of the stats gave too minimal a benefit to really count. The ascended gear has a good crit damage efficiency, so it’s a pretty solid choice for that. I ended up going zerk/cavalier ascended and changing some armor pieces to make up for the loss in survivability.

Is that not the definition of the elemantalist
I believe loading little bit condition damage. healing, toughness, crit….
Like or not, burning is the best condition damage in the game, giving little bit kick into it should not hurt….and definitely anything that pumps healing power can hurt an ele….
Cavalier and zerker
Well thanks for your input guys. I guess i can just play around with different combinations of exotics for now though and see what i like best before getting ascended things. still a long way off from getting them anyway. I wish they were just account bound like the karka shell and didn’t soulbind when you equipped them. then i could atleast use them on another character if i end up picking the wrong ones.

That’s basically the reason to go for Celestial Gear.
The thing is, yes, your damage stats are lower, but in return, you gain all of them. Your Drake’s Breath may lose a bit of damage from the power side, but gain a bit on the condition side. Your earth auto attack sucks a lot less with a bit more condition damage.
And seeing as how elementalists have such low armor and health, some vitality and toughness are useful too.

That’s what I did. Seems there were three primary stats on the ones I considered. Two were marginally better than the exotic I already had and the third was a good sized jump. So, I picked the piece that had the same stats but the big jump in the area I felt weakest in.
Well i played around with some gear a little bit more wasting 60-70 gold doing so. oh well i have ecto now atleast from what i don’t keep. Anyway, as much as i hate to admit it due to how much i disliked the celestial gear, it does seem to be the best. i tried around several different stat combinations of equipment with berserkers, cavaliers, valkyrie, knight, soldier. i found that by focusing too much on certain stats i lose out on some important ones and am forced to take certain stats in my armor and weapons to make up for what i’m lacking in accesories and other stats seem to suffer as a result. The celetial gear gives me more flexibility with my armor and weapon choices and i can swap out different pieces of armor and weapons(because i like to keep a few in my bags depending on the situation) with different stats depending on what i need at that particular moment, be it more tankiness, or damage, or healing and my stats as a whole dont suffer. for example if I need more defense i can swap out my berserker daggers for soldier ones and my damage wont suffer much, and i end up with around 18k hp instead of the measly amount i had before. and if i use the berserker daggers i’ll still have over 15k hp and more damage, and my defense wont suffer alot. With trying to find a balance between healing power, crit damage, crit chance, vit, power and toughness,…things just didnt work out so well in the end for what i was going for. Oh well live and learn.
another possible one is this one

Im going for a full celestial set, since ele’s use every stat on it on all weapon sets.
Cant wait till they introduce armor and weapons so i can pop some divinity runes on them.
Jack of all trades ftw!
Choosing celestial stats is like putting 14 points in each trait line. Yes, now you’re perfectly balanced but not particularly good at anything.

Depending on what you want to do, different stat combinations are better suited for different situations.
If you want to play mostly wvw, full berserkers is probably the way to go because the zerg will be your defense.
If you want to play dungeons, you’ll need some survivability, so Pow/Tough/Vit armor with berserker accesories are good.
For open world pve, use the pow/precision/magic find gear since the zerg will be your defense.
I personally run berserker armor and Pow/Tough/Crit Damage accessories (ascended gear) with 30 in water. I find this to give me the best mix of high damage and survivability.

I mostly do dungeons and wvw, i run around solo in wvw most of the time. i like fighting multiple people at once then dancing on their bodies when i kill them all because they underestimated me. Its also fun taking fully upgraded supply camps solo. Berserker/cavalier accessories + knights/clerics armor and soldier daggers are what i’m currently using and seems to work fine for both situations. That’s why i considered jsut getting ascended versions of what i already have. The Celestial gear is just so tempting. I could get both i suppose right? I only recently started doing fractals so i suppose i could get some of the ascended gear there and just keep 2 sets with me. I have a really good group that i usually run dungeons with, i doubt they’d mind running it repeatedly with me to get multiple sets of gear. We’ve already run regular dungeons more times than i can count. 1 of us actually has 10 greatswords from AC just because they like using different sigils and don’t wanna waste money switching them all the time but wanted the same sword. Yeah, we’re all a bit indecisive.

Except that you’re now good at doing multiple things decently. Which is exactly what the Elementalist needs.
The elementalist is built around switching attunements quickly and often, however if you play D/D and gear for power, your Fire damage will be awesome and your Earth damage will suck. If you build for condition damage, the opposite will be true. The same can be said for Water: if you have no healing power, all the time you spend in Water is essentially wasted.
By picking celestial gear, you will ensure that, instead of having huge spikes in effectiveness, you will remain useful regardless of what attunement you happen to be in.
Or another way to look at it: compared to berserker gear, your damage isn’t lessened because your bleeds (and burns) now hit a lot harder, and you gain some free defense as well.
See, that’s precisely why i’m so indecisive. Half of you say it’s great, half of you say it isn’t. And we all know what’s written and how things actually work in game can differ greatly. Which is why I wasted lots of gold experimenting with different builds in game rather than jsut rely on the build calculator thing. They really need to add in exotic celestial gear for each slot so i can play with those too. You can only have 1 karka shell equipped, found that out the hard way.
you can always test out builds and armor in the mists, to save some money. Not quite the same, but it will give you a good idea of your damage/survivability.
From what I can tell, it seems like you want berserker armor with celestial accessories. I think this would be a good setup for you. If you want to spend some gold, you can buy runes of the divinity. This way, you should have nice damage with enough survivability to get by.
My opinion is that in gw2 you want enough survivability to take a couple hits and not die. Everything else should be damage. I would suggest around 14k hp and 2k+ armor. Putting 30 points in water magic gives you the 14k health, and I choose the traits cantrips give you regen+vigor, cantrips recharge 20% faster, and applying regeneration removes a condition. Put mist form and either armor of earth or cleansing fire on your bar, and you’ll have plenty of survivability. Everything else goes into more deeps.
