Need some serious pvp tips
Elementalist is one of the most complex professions to play in this game, regardless of what anyone tells you.
I won’t write a wall of text, just gonna give you some very accurate pointers:
-Elementalist is a beast 1v1, even when running glass. (this is in D/d)
-Learning what other classes do can take you a while. I suggest you to learn through experience or read their skill sets / watch some videos
-As D/D: The only valid utility skills that exist for you are → Mist form, arcane shield, arcane wave, armor of earth or lightning flash. (Mist form is a MUST have in any build imo). Don’t use signets, conjures, or glyphs (glyph of elemental power can be good, but still outclassed by others)
-Having 0 points in the arcana trait line is a very bad idea.
-De-activate the “Autotargeting” option in the Combat/movement options, so you can use Ride the lightning (air #4) to escape.
It’ll take you time to learn elementalist, but it’s a very versatile and rewarding class to play (for now). So keep at it and you’ll get better.
I don’t think you can learn much at hotjoin pvp though, my advice is that you should keep learning the class… but in PvE.

I am confused a bit in pvp with my ele, i cannot seem to win 1v1 vs anyone except another ele. I die in about 3-4 hits and my damage seems to be so incredibly low and my healing barely noticeable. I use d/d and s/d equally and i’ve went 10/0/30/30/0 just to see if i survive much longer and i honestly don’t, i’ve went full dps and it still wasn’t enough to kill someone 1v1.
Need some tips on rotation or build, what to do vs every single profession. I only started playing this about 2 weeks ago but all i’ve been doing most of the time is pvp, if i go full tank i can’t get close to killing anyone and i still die fast, full dps still doesn’t kill 1v1 vs everything else and atm i’ve got 20/10/30/0/10 just to see how it does with semi dps/tank, still die in about 3 hits lol.
I use signet of restoration/earth/fire and armor of earth, glyph of elementals for elite. I use earth to lock down into dragon’s too -> fire grab -> signet of fire then go in with ride the lightning and go on from there, but it just seems that as i soon as i stop my burst they heal back to full no matter what the profession and just turn around and pewpew i’m dead =/
Just did another few pvp matches just to be solo’d by thiefs that just 2 shot me up close and ranged (they out dmg me at ranged..) not to mention them healing stupid amounts, i really want to enjoy pvp with my ele but atm i just feel like quitting the game right now lol, i got away from wow because pvp sucked extremely bad just to come into this and be solo’d 24/7 by every profession except ele.
The two most common builds in tpvp are:
d/d-0/10/0/30/30-signet of restoration: Mist Form, Lightning Flash, and Arcane Wave with Glyph of Elementals
or
s/d 0/20/0/20/30: Mist Form, Arcane Wave, and Arcane Blast with Glyph of Elementals
Both use Valks Amulet with Berserker Jewel and Runes of the Scholar
If you have only been playing for 2 weeks the best advice is to give it time. Also, you can run the same set up using a Soldier’s Amulet until you get used to fighting the other professions.
Hi Vec
I really enjoyed watching this guy’s videos. He plays a D/D ele and his videos are short and entertaining. I dunno you might find it useful. But yeah, to paraphrase Razor, the learning curve for this class is more steep than others.
Norn Warrior
Blackgate
Holy moly, that guy is bad.

Tip 1: Dodging. Most effective when you are more familiar with how other classes play/what there dangerous skills are.
Tip 2: Try everything. I played ele since beta and I only just found my ideal build for spvp after 6 months lol.
Tip 3: regardless of what I’m playing (pve/pvp/wvw), I go 30 in water for cantrips grant regen/vigor, cantrips recharge 20% faster, and regeneration removes conditions. Then I take cleansing flame, mist form, and armor of earth as my utilities. Gives you an absurd amount of defense

Also, elementalist is probably one of the most difficult classes to master because you have to know how to cycle your attunements at the right time. Probably the easiest is thief or warrior.

Thx for replies, and yea i played ele on wow (not rly relevant lol) and that is tricky to play atm compared to warriors. Just 1 more question as to how theifs manage to kill me fast at ranged distance?
Again could really use some tips vs theifs, atm i am being killed in the opener or just left with 2k hp before i even see them. the damage output is absurd from them both ranged and melee and no matter how much heals and cantrips i pop doesn’t save me.
Roll a thief and learn what they do, they’re very easy to counter (the average hotjoin ones at least).
Protips:
1. Click them, check if they have Basilisk venom ready (it’s their elite and it immobilizes you for 1.5s on their next attack, it has a greenish tail icon. If they fail that attack, it gets wasted)
2. Shocking aura, arcane shield, updraft, earthquake and mistform are your friends. The more of those you have up and ready to use, the least chances you have to lose to a thief.
3. Most of their stealth skills last 3 seconds only. The only one (afaik) that lasts more than that is Shadow refuge (it’s a huge circle with a house icon on top of it. It grants up to 11 (not sure) seconds of stealth to the thief and his allies, the longer they remain there), anyway, whenever a thief goes stealth and is NOT severely injured, you can expect him to charge at you before their stealth fades, so just dodge roll or preemptively activate arcane shield / use aoe spells in place (water 3, earthquake, ring of fire).
Oh and their heal also grants them stealth. The animation obvious once you figure it out.
Basilisk venom also has a 1 second cast time, it looks like their heal animation but does not grant stealth.
And lastly, thieves’ F1 is a skill called steal. They get a random (i think) spell whenever they use it and it’s also a gap closer (900 range, the same range of lightning flash) so don’t be fooled when you see a thief from afar, they have many ways to jump at you easily.

if you’re dieing a lot try running with the power/vitality/toughness amulet (knights I think) until you are more familiar with how to play. You’ll do less damage but you’ll survive long enough to learn how to react better
