I have a level 80 Warrior and a level 80 Necro. While I enjoy them both, I have always been drawn to the Elementalist class. I love how flashy it is and the skills. While I am not fond of the attunement system, after some re-binding of my keys I am starting to get the hang of it slightly.

My baby Ele is still only level 20. Do any of you have tips on playing Ele around this level and tips on surviving (coming from Necro and Warrior Ele seems really fragile of course) Any tips you are willing to offer are appreciated.

Yeah, Ele is rather squishy compared to those classes, but the dps is great. So in PVE faster you kill things you won’t have to worry about “tank” mobs.

I recommend you check this post, there have builds, rotation skills and tips. Go for staff build, it rocks in pve!

It’s also all about timing and how flash your entrance was as you melt your enemies. Whether in pve, fractals, dungeons, wvw or Spvp (rank fights included) just play with caution, consideration and no your limit. Then people would say wow that elementalist was awesome and her hair looks so puffy. And honestly you did little to nothing with your little daggers and you get loot. In reality you done like 11 sets of elemental rotations and over 6 carefully places dodges.

Yeah what those guys are saying rests true.

In my experience, the ele is about finding your rhythm of dancing through the skills — and once you’re in the rhythm you know it. Just know that for every situation you have an answer on your skill kit, and also know that in order to be effective you have to know how to chain your various skills together to make effective combinations and shiznizzle.

Starting out, I would say try out the different weapon sets and get to know what is good for what; and get yourself into a lot of situations where you can practice many different things like AoE killing, surviving, running through, reviving teammates, soloing content, buffing allies, etc.

It has been getting a little better. I have been practicing blasting my combo fields and stance dancing and with my new keybinds it is starting (not there completely yet though) to become less stressful. I find I can take on a bit more and feel a bit less squishy. I can see the class replacing my Necro and Warrior soon as my main if it maintains this fun level.

It actually reminds me a bit of playing a Warden in Lord of the Rings Online. The combat mechanic was completely different from any MMO until that time and it require the use of various smaller skills to build up a larger chain skill. Eventually you got shortcuts that you would assign to alt-shift-ctl plus 1-3 and you would finger dance like crazy pulling off crazy feats and making it look easy when it was not at all lol.

Glyph of Storms cast in earth will give a persistent AoE blind. It really helped me with some of the squishiness while leveling.

Unfortunately it has been a while since I leveled my ele, so things have changed. I remember first 30 levels were quite hard. I died often. Then I got Lightning Hammer build that had huge HP regen from water attunement/traits and good DPS via hammer. Eles still have similar build but I don’t know does it still work while leveling.

Here is one guite recent guide for elementalis, ofc most of it is lvl80 stuff, but still good read: http://dulfy.net/2014/07/11/gw2-elementalist-pve-class-guide-by-haviz-and-zelyhn/
