Non-D/D Roamer?
So D/D is great in sPvP, but in typical WvW roaming engages, especially after the cele nerf, D/D no longer has teeth. I respect the build, as it has great support, utility, and mobility, but its killing potential, and in duels with other common roaming classes, it falls short. As such, I’d love to have a discussion of alternative builds for roaming in WvW.
One build I admire is Diva’s condi signet Earth ele. My issues with this build are the lack of viability in all but the smallest of engagements (no real group support; this build is entirely a duelist), and terrible mobility. However, it absolutely crushes nearly every roamer build out there, and the Thief tears are wonderful.
I’ve experimented with S/F Fresh Air, and found that somewhat lacking in WvW. Poor mobility, glass cannon, and difficulty landing necessary skills make this burst damage build fun but limited in application.
Has anyone else experimented with, and found great success, in using non-D/D builds for roaming in WvW?

IMO D/D is very predictable, and I don’t roam D/D when i’m using my ele to roam.
Here is what I would run while roaming and looking for 1v1 and anything up to 5v10
While S/F builds lack mobility that you’re used to with D/D, your skill rotations are used to prevent damage from hitting you (swirling winds, magnetic wave, obsidian flesh) and there is a fair variety of ways that you can set up your burst with the phoenix.
When you really need to escape you have your FGS and LF
With this build you’re able to get a glass thief from 100%-0% in the amount of time it takes Hide in Shadows to channel if you set up your burst appropriately.
S/F usually gets crushed by warriors if they are not playing like they’re completely braindead. You cannot burst him down while for him it takes about 3-4 hits to kill you. Obsidian flesh and ignore pain/shield stance neglect each other. Same for thiefs. He sees you popping your defensive utilities and immediately goes into stealth/starts spamming dodge frames and attacks when you’re “naked” (again, if the player is not a complete kitten). Although one of the most difficult and challenging builds in the game, s/f glass cannon is usually not suited to do more than bursting down noobs or deal devastating damage to instagib an opponent in a teamfight.
If you don’t like d/d, I would suggest you try a d/f signet/condition build with perplexity runes. It’s a completely broken way of playing an ele yet crushes almost everything you’ll engage in a 1v1 situation by the price of throwing away your mobility.

Only the combination of your signature and your sarcastic, non-advice for the original poster. You came to send a negative message and discard the roaming potential of the entire class because of LONGBOW RANGERS. There was no effort to answer the question of whether there are any non D/D roaming builds, only your narrow, pessimistic response. I didn’t come here to take a cheap shot at you, I came to offer a non D/D roaming type build when i read the name of the thread.

Yeah, you can do that, but perplexity is not needed. If you want to you can, but expect everyone to hate you haha… I am the no1 example
Alternative suggestion is to use Balthazaar rune for more burning duration or Flock for blinding every 10 seconds (blinding lasts for 5 secs)

Okay. The reason I feel that Elementalist is not as viable roaming anymore is because in situation where you are outnumbered and need to run, you will be chased across the map and eventually killed by a 2 spamming lb ranger. Scepter/focus while it helps with countering rangers, leaves you unable to run from fights. This is in a solo roaming setting mind you. For team play, d/d ele is preferred because of its natural healing and condition removal to allies, with only a minor loss in dps burst. Is there a viable build other than d/d ele for team roaming? depends on what your team wants. Solo roaming? IMO notice its my opinion, I believe no.

Yeah, me too. I don’t know why people snob staff so much for roaming.
not sure but the openness of wvw and the aoe and cc makes it great for roaming.
I added some S/F small group (sub 10) fighting to this moobie: relevant clips stop at 8 min
D/F elementalist can beat those supposed viable lb rangers in 4-5 seconds.
Just go full zerker 25 might stacking with spellslinger runes of strength sigil of battle etc.
Use the supperior defensive skills of the focus in tandem with your dodges for damage mitigation and let your signets passive heal you up from unmitigated dmg. Keep decent stunbreakers and condi removals off CD as much as possible because you wouldn’t want to be stun-locked.
D/F also gives AoE anti projectile plus a couple non-projectile CC’s. The additional invulnerability is also usefull in safely stomping.
Plus I’m still more than able at clearing camps solo.

ive defeated eles pretty easily with sword main hand. Use signet of the wild so the ele can’t cc you and just spam your auto attack. they hit for like 2k each hit and the leaps make it hard for the ele to disengage from you. Get them to half health switch lb then knockback and spam 2 for win.

I started back up on my d/d ele and have very little trouble. I run Knights armor with celestial trinkets, and the usual runes/sigils. Really have littler problems. Yes, it is predictable, that’s why I don’t do normal rotations. Usually people go air→fire→earth/water→earth/water. I don’t. I tend to open using air 4 and just lightning whipping them. Than water to chill the (chill so OP) and unload w/fire. Idealistically, haven’t used lightning flash, so I pop armor of earth, and use churning earth to rofl stomp them. I’m not that experienced, so maybe that is what most people do, but whatever.
