Hello fellow eles, I made a random video just yesterday of myself on my ele main doing some sPvP on Raid of the Capricorn. It was originally meant to be a QQ eles suck vid, but I ended up having a team with half a brain and did well instead. So I put it up anyway because well, it’s just rare to have a game with only 1 death lol.

Anyway, the point isn’t to show off my play (I suck anyway), but maybe to improve it. If you got 10 minutes to burn , check it out and let me know what I could do better to improve my game play. It’d be appreciated. *Note, I’m aware of my lack of attunement dancing in the underwater fights, for some reason I derped out there and didn’t want to change attunements, but apart from that, let me know what I can do, if anything, better. Thanks.

do NOT, i repeat do NOT click your spells and do NOT turn directions with your keyobard.

Use Hotkeys only and your play will increase 100%.

try doing that first. then work on mechanics.

Yea I figured the “do not click spells” thing would come up. Should’ve mentioned that I can’t adapt to hotkeys. After 10+ years of playing mmos, I’m stuck on clicks. Just my preferred style, despite it being worse, thanks though.

Buy a razer naga, it will make the transition alot easier.

its pure basics: If you click spells you will not be able to keep up with the speed of GW2 PVP which is indeed a rather fast PVP playstyle. Anyhow, since you cant keep up with the pace you will not be able to use your skills/abilitys at the right time and at the right place.

you wont be able to improove with clicking and keyboardturning.

you have 2 options:
-start learning not to click and keyboardturn or
-dont learn using hotkeys, stay as comfortable as you are now and fail miserably at GW2 PVP

no offense really. Im just trying to open your eyes a little.

If clicking is my only problem that is identifiable, then I guess I am satisfied. I was looking more for combo improvements or tips on play rather than the usual “you’ll fail miserably if you don’t hotkey” argument. It’s tired and old. The fast pace does not bother me, never did. If you can see any other improvements besides key binding, that’d be appreciated. I can pvp just fine as is otherwise. Thanks.

sounds like you’re good to go.

the way you interface with your character and give commands is such a basic and low level system compared to combo improvements and stuff like that. you’re probably always going to get the same response here because when identifying a problem people like to start at the bottom and work up.

if someone is having trouble with math and counting on their fingers i’ll tell them to buy a calculator before i bother helping them with their integration.

i have several friends that click. they learned long ago not to ask for help because thats just the way it is! you’re gonna get told not to click and thats all the conversation will ever be about because its that fundamental!

which obviously isn’t a problem to those who aren’t very competitive.

Unfortunately, you are correct. I never had a problem working on my own devices before to figure out some new styles, but it never hurts to always ask, or so I always think. I’ll just keep lurking the forums for tips from others as I always do. I’ll bother to keybind when I intend to make a living off gaming and tip top performance is a must (ie. never). Thanks anyway.

Edit: Ok, now that I’ve cooled down a bit, I can say that keybinding isn’t completely foreign to me, just a slow process. It took me some 3 years in wow before I did it there and 1 year in LoL before I started doing it there. I suppose I’ll eventually catch on here too. Guess I’ll wait until then to seek advice, if any needed.

Top tips to improve your performance:

Learn to control your character using WASD and Mouse.
Stop clicking skills it is a HUGE FAIL.
Roll a Thief or Warrior, you will be more effective with fewer buttons.

Well it at least sounds more sincere lol. As I stated above, I’ll eventually get to using keys, just never been a favourite of mine and hence is a slower process. It does make me wonder how I can use keys when I need mouse to control camera around as you state. Means I would need 3 hands. How would I go about setting keys up to make that work? Also, boo thief and warrior.

Hold right mouse button and move the mouse to turn your char left/right

WASD for forwards/backwards and strafing (hold M2 and D to strafe right for example)
1,2,3,4,5 basic skills

Q,E,R,Z,X,C heal/utility spells

Total control of your char without having to reach a long way or heaven forbid… click skills.

Well that definately sounds feasible. It sounds like too much work though. I already have a bad habit of needing to look at the keyboard to see where keys are (not WASD though, I’ve used that enough to know where that is). Maybe if I ease into it by having some spells on keys and clicking others, then once I’m comfortable there, go full bound? Seems like a pain to have my elements on the F keys though, stance dancing would suck. Getting a razer as mentioned earlier probably wouldn’t hurt either to make it easier. Thanks.

Looks like you got the right idea, but you would get beat by someone of equal skill that doesnt “click”. I play the same class with D/D and i can tell first hand that your responce time is slower than mine.

I’m by no means “pro” and i need to work on my clutch switching, but you can watch this as an example. there is zero thought that goes into what buttons i press, its all muscle memory.

I hope this helps…just start out slow. Like using 1-5, then go from there.

Thanks weapon, the idea of whether things were being done right is what I was initially looking confirmation for. And yes, starting slowly with maybe just half the skills bound is what I was pondering to do earlier in order to ease into it. The whole scheme just seems unnecessarily complicated, hence why I’ve always avoided it. =/

I hear you, but this game is by far the simplist to key bind. In Rift i had like 25 or so. Hell just start by using A+D to strafe and start using the Right mouse button to turn. Once you get that down you can free up your mouse point a little more.

I like the idea there for the A+D. The more I think about it though, the more I feel like hitting 1-5 while say moving in a fight would be hard. How would you keep moving with the WASD yet still be able to hit 1-5, for example?

An entire generation of daoc and UO players mastered pvp just fine without your non pro looking circle straifing and mashing 123123 with your left hands.
besides all that circle straife to keep your target in front of you just looks absolutly STUPID for entertainment purposes wit the cam spinning .

most of the daoc players went into WoW and dominated
most of the wow players who came over to warhammer for the pvp got stomped

jus sayin… it aint all about “MOUSE TURNZ111”
us old school seem to be doin jus fine mechanic wise.. compared to you generation Z kids.

lol….i can run threw you and you have to “turn” around to hit me with a skill/spell. This isnt wow, your spells dont hit no matter what.

Hell i have a buddy that doesnt use the keyboard for movement at all, he has strafe bound to his mouse and his left hand\keyboard is for abilitys only.

I don’t recall if DAoC let you mouselook to turn, but if it did I used it and I made extensive use of keybinds for all of my spells and RAs. Granted it’s been a while since I played the game, but I did play for five years starting just a bit after release.

I generally agree with what I think you’re trying to say … I’m just saying most people I know who played DAoC didn’t use their mouse for their powers.

You do know that in early times of MMORPGs PvP was far easier to master right?
jeez dude….. its been 8 year since DAoC players came over to WoW. I myself used to click skills as well. The scale of good PvPing has of course doubled……

unbelivable how ppl think stuff that worked 8 years ago is gonna work perfectly nowdays. Its like buying an 8 year old car and complaining its not going as fast as the other cars on the road……

so for the easy headed ppl out there: PvP in 2012 is a different PvP compared to 2004

If you can type a forum post with a keyboard as opposed to clicking each letter on a char map, you can hotkey your skills.

The same generation of gamers were playing their keyboard like an instrument in Starcraft :/ your argument makes no sense
