Noob Elementalist Seeking Advice
Delete and make an alt. Anet is pigeon-holing the class into a support class.
The first trait to pickup is Arcana 5. As for levelling, I found Glyph of (Lesser) Elemental very useful. The earth elementals in particular can tank extremely well (both in health and in attracting aggro), leaving you free to cast your spells.

Don’t listen to him or people like him. Play what you enjoy, not what others tell you you should or shouldn’t enjoy.
Hi, I purchased GW2 a while ago, didn’t play too much. I did get a ranger to level 24ish I think and then took a break to play EQ with some old friends.
Wanting a fresh start, I created an Asura Elementalist named Brakeus Tinkertin, after my Gnome wizard in EverQuest. Well I just figured i’d ask for advice on the class so I got off on the right foot.
1. Any advice (other than don’t play an elementalist) that I should know early on that would make my life easier? any tip, trick, or settings i should look at, ect.
2. Advice on a good PvE leveling build. What traits, weapon sets are good on the 1-80 grind. I noticed so far i’m usually alone, so I guess going more towards dps would be better?
3. Basic PvE tips. I notice you die really fast, so any strategies on how to be effective would be helpful, So far my biggest issue is that my hands get off the right keys and I end up hitting my F keys instead of 1-4 and vise versa lol.
4. Any links to guides or youtube videos that you think would help be out would be cool too!
Thanks again for any advice you give!!
Use Scepter/Dagger, I find it to be the best PvE weaponset we have.
You must learn to kite melee enemies.
Consider using a Conjure weapon (Lightning Hammer is really good).
Learn to spam skills.
Elementalist is one of the hardest class to learn and to master. I started as an Elementalist too and was really impressed by how many things we have to do to in order to get the same results as, say, a Warrior.
However, once you learn how to manage Attunements, you’ll learn that our class could be one of the most fun there are
Good luck!

Lol, only truly skilled? I’ve reached rank 300 in tPvP as a Burst Ele.

Being able to play a single build doesn’t mean you know everything there is to know about the elementalist. If anything, burst builds are among the most repetitive, singleminded and unimaginitive builds out there.

Personally I have always felt way more comfortable with D/D.
Early survival tip: Glyph of Storms cast in Earth Attunement gives you a persistent AoE blind. It’s great for getting off Churning Earth (or just DPSing packs of mobs) when you’re still missing some traits and are kinda papery.
Also remember that any instant cast can be used while channeling something else — THIS INCLUDES ATTUNEMENT SWAPS. If you take 10 in arcana for the boons on attunement swap (and I suggest you do) this can really help.

Dagger Water #2 heals yourself, too.
2.
At lower levels your overall attributes are fairly low so the attribute bonus of a trait line can be more important than the traits themselves. So it’s properly best to spend the trait points in Fire to get Power and Earth to get Condition Damage; 10 points in Earth will also give you + 10% damage.
I got along with Dagger/Dagger better than with Scepter/Dagger but test both for yourself.
3.
Ele easy-mode is Scepter/Dagger Earth; good auto attack, + armor, blind, knockdown and a hard-hitting AoE.
Eventually you should get the hand of attunement dancing, though.
