I was trying out the new stuff today, when I realized I had played staff for so long that I lacked the muscle memory for any other weapon, so my opinion is solely based on staff until I can remember how to play anything else

Stone heart feels great, honestly, especially while conjuring, but blinding ashes is somewhat lacking. Aquatic ben and elemental contingency were just off the table from the start, as was whatever the interruption trait is (too much investment to unlock something I have so little interest in).

The ring on meteor shower changes nothing, really. I think the ring is too big for people to see haha.

How do you guys feel about it?

P.S. New infiltrator runes were pretty fun with the 12% damage to >50% and cloak threshold doubled, not sure if I should keep them though.

In pvp I’m enjoying traveler runes. Seems like rune of strength will be the new traditional runes for ele. 25 might stacks will be easy. The crit damage nerf kind of killed my build (didn’t rely on might). There are many runes I’d still like to experiment with.

I was mad about the bloodlust nerf, but then I discovered a wonderful trick that works around it. The boon duration nerf is irritating, I had to buy new runes that aren’t as good as the old setup. The crit damage nerf is frustrating and I don’t feel like the added condi damage will make up for it. I think the nerfs to my damage potential, may have outweighed the buffs, but I’ll never know because my ele has access to applied strength/fortitude now. I kind of hope we’re still bottom of the barrel in sPvP, because I’d like to see some more buffs to my build instead of nerfs for a change.

I’m in the same boat as cecilia. Kind of at a loss for words and not sure I even feel like continuing to play. I lost 26% critical damage even though my armor and daggers are soldiers/knights. boon duration runes of any kind are absolutely worthless now. My melandru runes got a +25 vitality stat which I guess is nice but I didnt take them for vitality.

I don’t know, I’m really disappointed right now. Theres alot of about this stupid patch that has me and many of my friends scratching their heads on how any of it got approved. I mean…Sigil of paralyzation, now is 30% stun duration…who on EARTH at arena net thought this was a good idea?!

What would you replace it with, out of curiosity? I’m collecting mats for my first set of ascended gear and I’m curious as to what would be best. I was going for celestial but now I’m not so sure.

I need help >.>
In WWW i run a balanced D/D or staff ele… (mix celestial zerker and soldier…will mix more post patch, i’ll keep the armor and just change trinkets etc.).

I used boon duration 2+2+2 runes…
Now i ve to decide if going with rune of strength, reducing by a lot boon duration or go traveler and keep some.

I already used 2 travelers so i don t have the freedom of trying without wasting lot of gold :|

Also wich sigil should i go on staff?
I had energy ….battle doesn t seem appealing since staff use really few rotations.

Bloodlust or fire?

But you can still save armor and change trinkets etc. to get a decent balance.

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

I was already expecting blinding ashes to be this limited so that didn’t even bother me, stone heart is fun, I’m trying to figure out a nice build around it, if they only made it so that conjures had reliable skills for healing/condi cleanse it would be perfect. I don’t think there’s been much of a positive change, stacking sigil’s nerf felt like a punch in the face but theres a solution for it already… I haven’t paid attention to the other classes buffs/nerfs so I’m hoping that anet did some balancing around toning some of them down…. hopefully things will get better.

Judging solely by last night’s experience in Spvp, I’d say we’re in better shape. Still not amazing, but better. My only guess is that the other classes got brought down somewhat. I did better than I’ve done in forever. I actually felt like an asset to the team lol

lately I have going with berserkers armor paired with the rune of the warrior which had a very nice redo in the patch
also using the sigil of battle and intelligence when paired with my 25/0/15/30
with the Elemental Attunement grandmaster Trait this works wonderers (guess this the wrong format for builds now ill have to remember that for next time)

Only spent a couple hours trying out some spvp buids. Cit dmg across the board on all classes seems way down. What it seemed like to me was not that the ele got buffed to help be on par with the other classes. But the other classes that were doing insane dmg aka thief warrior mesmer got nerfed to be more on par with my ele. I wasn’t just a free kill for thieves anymore no matter what build I ran. The support staff healer ele build did some pretty good healing to allies.

Really ambivalent.

In WvW, I definitely felt very badly nerfed. My damage went down a lot, my boon duration build got smashed and I am really at a loss in experimentation on what I should do. I still get eaten by thieves for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack. Aquatic benevolence is a pointless trait. It’s merely a “win more while you are ahead” trait. If your Zerg can blast in a water field properly, you were never lacking in healing power. If not, you just delay the inevitable. Cleansing water is just much much stronger.

However, I went into sPvP and surprise surprise! Very different picture. I actually managed to do quite well! Partly due to thieves not having the kind of burst that they have in WvW nor the open spaces to reset if they are losing. I managed to match or drive off warriors from points, which is a marked improvement. It was an enjoyable 1 hour romp which I had with very little planning on my rebuild(0/10/0/30/30 bunker d/d with celestial amulet and strength runes).

So, I think WvW, we are going to have to suffer a bit. SPvP though, early days but hopefully, newer builds might show up or our old builds will see a major resurgence.

WvW law #1: nobody in WvW can count.

Im playing my s/d thief and war mostly , in wvw. I must say i really think ele of all classes should have had buff. I really feel bad for ele ppl especially those brave guys that keep trying to do well on ele.
If nothing else , you guys have my respect.

Agreed. I had expected the patch to not live up to Anet’s hype, but I never feared it’d be this bad.

I’ve been having a lot of fun in PvP since the patch, I seem to be doing a fair bit better and that’s on D/D. Not tried in WvW yet though as need to rethink my build due to rune changes / etc.

Fresh Air builds: the revert to signet of restoration, and the improved runes of strength and sigil of air (coupled with sigil of battle) is really good. Might lasts a lot longer, damage is generally higher, less time spent healing, and sigil of air adds a lot to the build.

Celestial d/d builds with stone heart and cantrip traits (including 20 fire), plus rune of strenght and sigil of battle: really all-around balanced, with some occasional strong bursting, and good defense. Really high might stacking. I’m not sure if they can have a role in conquest, though, but it’s a nice balanced build.

Stone Heart in general: awesome.

Still haven’t tried the reverted Cleansing Water, but it should be great too.

imho blinding ashes is bugged, it doesn’t seem to trigger as often as it should (icd 5 seconds, applied whenever you apply burning, which is basically everything you do while attuned in Fire), that’s why I don’t want to judge it right now. Overall I am satisfied, but need more testing…

Im running 30 earth with stoneheart atm and berserkers amulet..and im actually tanking kitten .Double armor of earth at new cd and rock solid is also a major boost. Its like playing another build in terms of tanky dps setups. The thief match ups are the funniest ones so far.. the difference between getting bursted on earth compared to toher att is so big.Its like you switch to a warrior for a bit .And then the might stacking really build ups.Only issue i can see is that this major improvement is only done to direct damage and condi builds can still be a pain even though their crit effects are reduced a bit.

Somewhat, except this trait is specifically to not get instakilled by burst builds. I fear that ArenaNet will abuse this as an excuse to not balance eles further.

Just don’t go to wvw expecting to get a good result for a few days … if your match ups are anything like T1 your always fighting about 50k mesmers and no build will be fun to play against that kind of kittin.

Stone Heart is soooo goood!

My damage in WvW is lower, but the numbers I was putting out pre-patch was ridiculous. I can still put out 10k-12k meteors without zerker gear. I’m pretty happy overall.

The damage nerfs are a lot, but stacking might is now easier. I’m working with a setup that stacks a lot of might during combat situations.
