Our mobility is back...baby!
Update: if you cast the leap fast enough, you will even get a fire aura!
Try the freaking elite with one with air!!!!!Do it NOW kittenMIT :p
Basically staff got an rtl of its own as well.
Now if only Immobilize didn’t exit :p
80 Necromancer (IRNY), 80 Guardian (IRNY)
GW2: it’s like DAoC, but for the WoW crowd.
Now if only Immobilize didn’t exit :p
burning retreat = evade!!! Woot!
Also, ele has some decent clears (water V, ether renewal, phoenix, cleansing wave (water 5 on dagger), earth 4 on focus).
Hello everyone, just wanted to fill you in that we can now do better than our old RtL, and don’t need firey greatsword to do it. In fact, any weaponset can get the mobility it wants. “But how?” you ask. Simple: just take your trusty lava axe.
Now with the lava axe, you get a 1200 range evasive retreat every 15s, plus an additional 550 range leap every 15s. This even combos well with one with air!
How you do it:
cast lava axe—>swap air (for swiftness/one with air)—>hit turn around button—>burning retreat (will go about 1500)—>turn around—>flame leap (will go about 700)—> profit (you can either drop the axe to get your RtL/burning speed, or keep it to do the burning speed/axe leap again!
Best of all, this works even if you are an s/f turtle, d/d, or staff. Staff even has its own burning retreat, and might be more mobile that daggers now (burning retreat is on a 20s cast time, whereas RtL is on a 40s when used for mobility).
Just bind that turn around button somewhere easy (mine is on Y) and be zipping around like the good ol’ days in no time!
The king of mobility has returned!! Suck on that, warriors!!!
You seriously seem to not understand that conjure lava axe literally has a 60s cooldown.
:)
^it can be used with most leaps except ride the lighting..I dont know why he is stuck with the conjure i guess he loves it :P

I understand, but I don’t mind holding onto it while running around and dropping it. Also, it gives sufficient escapability without taking conjure firey greatsword. The movement skills are on only a 15s cooldown. Try it out and you will be really happy with it!
Also, Avead, One with air works best with conjures b/c otherwise you swap to air for the proc and try to swap right out again (no leaps in air), which is very tough to do. With conjures you can hold it and run, then swap to air to increase the movement skills. If you are d/d, the trait would be wasted b/c you would swap to air—>RtL and have no more super-speed.
well, one with air does literally nothing out of combat, so this isn’t much good for while running around

one of the reasons conjures will never be good is because of their atrocious cooldown, duration, and uses. its a “new” rtl, sort of, but not really because its a wasted utility skill. cantrips are almost needed to survive. its a “new” rtl with a 60s cooldown. and that is NOT enough to convince me to swap out my life saving cantrips.(and signet )
:)
The main reason conjures aren’t good is the cast time. After you fire off that Burning Speed or whatever, the time it takes to actually fire off your next skill is pretty huge if said next skill is a conjure skill.
Tested out conjures. OP against opponents who don’t know what they are doing and when you are 5v1ing

Fire axe has excellent mobility in 2 places where we need it:
WvW getting away when the fit hits the shan and a group shows up. Trying to conjure the greatsword = death. You can take off, even RtL/burning speed for some space, cast the axe, then retreat/leap until your heart is content and nobody will catch you. You now don’t have to take greatsword, and can take the pet or tornado, which are pretty good.
Map mobility in pvp. The RtL nerf hurt the bunker spec from its job b/c that spec couldn’t effectively run and come back anymore. If you can survive 1v1 for a few seconds (which you should be able to), you will be able to cast the axe whenever and run/come back to harass far-point until your heart is content. In fact, s/f is probably a great far-point harasser b/c it can handle pet classes, esp rangers and survive versus almost anything, and use the axe for mobility. You get some pretty great defensive tools with the focus, which is great for that role, and can keep mobility. The tradeoff of a util slot for mobility so you can take a more defensive weapon is more than worth it.
-PvE fun: No longer have to wait forever for RtL to be ready, just throw down your axe and zip around the map like the old days. It will make playing anything that isn’t /d mobile enough to be fun.
One with air is nice, and I would take it if I wanted max mobility, but not necesary for what I am talking about. Swiftness works just fine for getting around very far with these skills, and every ele takes elemental attunement.
FYI, after comparing RTL to hasted burning retreat several times, the hasted burning retreat is less range than the RTL; it’s about 1000-1100 range, wherein RTL is 1200.
Superspeed only works in combat? I didn’t see any change using it out of combat. To me, it seems very situational. As it is, I don’t see any reason to use it, as there are so many better choices.
Basically what you’re saying here: bring conjures and prepare to lose each battle. Once you lose you can bust your conjures to escape.
Building to fail isn’t going to win any battles, just like the pathetic suicide eles I see running around in WvW now. Shame on you all.
I appreciate anybody trying to see a bright side, but it’s not a viable escape route especially when it forces you to lose a very good utility skill

If you are pushing far point, you ARE going to lose the battle eventually (people will funnel in after they respawn, or come from mid to get their home back). However, an S/F ele can indefinitely fight almost any class they send to deal with it 1v1 by using 2 trait slots (I’m not sure which, but I would be tempted to take arcane shield and earth shield for the blocks + the pull to help with the decap). When more than 1 person comes, taking the lava axe gives you the mobility to get out of there when the fight swings their way, get ooc, heal up, and come right back. That is the job of a far-point assaulter, and I really think it can be done well.
Also, you don’t need all 3 utilities to kill roaming in wvw. Most of the time, your utils are used to get out of a bad situation, which lava axe does as well.
I really don’t think this skill is going to be great offensively (maybe it could on a might stacking build), but the mobility can do a lot of things for us.
Edit: added clarification.
This thread is the best joke since the Ele nerfs in Q1/13, stay classy friends /out. P.s balance done by casualZ LOL. Inb4infraction.

thats not what he is saying. what he is saying is that movement speed is capped at ~140% of out of combat speed. If you are out of combat and running with swiftness, you will have a hard time noticing “super speed” because you are almost capped already. however, if you are in-combat and using “super speed”, you will notice a significant speed boost.
Celestial Avatar is like an old man: Takes forever to get up and is spent in 4 seconds
I wonder if this will work with bear form’s Charge skill? It’s already the longest gap closer/escape in the game by a 4x overlap, but every lil’ bit helps :P

Played with this a bit tonight but really wasn’t impressed. Maybe with a fresh air build it’d be better, but I really don’t see any use at all in this skill for any other build.

Burning retreat moves you 900 units WITH swiftness (and out of combat).
Flame leap has a range of 550, but before and after the cast you stop moving for a part of a second, so after using it you’re probably not 550 units ahead of someone who was running right beside you. Needs to be tested.
will have to try this. Will report on changes in a few hours.
If you think a conjure is giving you proper mobility you need more experience playing this game, the week you have played so far isn’t enough.

The spell in itself has an animation time, so you should deduct the length that you would be able to walk during this time in order to find the actual boost in speed.

I play WvW…I roam a lot by myself or in small groups, and join a zerg once in a while. I switch to staff when zerging or attacking/defending keeps or towers, but use d/d most of the time.
I use a build I put together myself which works pretty darn well. I love conjures and use them as an integral part of my build. I can keep close to 100% uptime on flame axe, and I use it for offense and mobility in the open field with good results. It also has fire fields, blast and leap finishers… it’s awesome.
I carry around 15-25 stacks of might consistently in combat, I have reasonable survivability using cantrips/regen/healing power/mobility. A lot of times people have no idea what hit them. I can maintain 25 stacks of might with just flame axe auto attack if things live that long.
Anyway, I just wanted to let the original poster know that I agree with him. I loved conjures before, and after the patch they are even more awesome. I wish they would add more traits pertaining to conjures so that I could do a more conjure-centric build.

Convoluted is the name of the game.
Work 5x as hard to get the same results as a Warrior.
Nothing new.

If this were true, I’d be perfectly okay with it. Unfortunately it’s more like work five times as hard for the half the results.
Ridiculous post tbh
An entire build based around being able to run away once per minute, using a convoluted combo.
Sad.
Here’s the even worst part: a warrior/thief will still catch you.

I have played for about year, thanks, and have quite a bit of experience! How about you try it out before you knock it.
Its an easier-access replacement for FGS, so you can take any elite you want. You give up an arcane skill or mistform for this, mistform is trash right now (bugged) and shouldn’t be taken anyway.

I’m sure you do big guy
Your title is extremely misleading.
It’s good except for the fact that it is ungodly annoying to turn around to use burning retreat for mobility. It’s just… unnatural, and makes roaming a pain even if it is faster. If I could use a macro it would be nicer, but first off they aren’t allowed, and second I don’t know how I would make a macro only apply when I have flame axe.

I understand, but i bind my turn-around button to Q, while my movement are WASD (E is evade, b/c its easy to hit, and just happens to be E-for-evade). Depending on how your bindings are it will be easier/harder. I have had it this way ever since daphoenix had suggested using an easy binding for better water mobility.
You really do get around quite quickly by switching between using this, dropping it from weapon-movement skills, then throwing down another flame-axe.
Also, idk if it was always this way, but its even useful to prevent being gradually trained down as you can just keep spamming your axes backwards, dropping fire field, and blasting for more might while running (as with engineer grenades). You can even draw your enemy away and put him in a bad spot when you turn around with a nice stack of might and he has been kited down a bit and is now far from his buddies. I love punishing people for getting too much blood-lust in their hearts and over-persuing.
I’ve always wanted to do about face > burning retreat/updraft > about face on 1 key, but that’s illegal. Also my about face keybind is on a crap key still. It would probably have to be on the mouse to time it right.
Daphoenix key bindings were not that great
Try mine:
RDFG movement
SPACE evade (very important)
Z jump
ETVBN weapon skills
3456 attunements
S heal YHJ utils
W switch target A change weapon Q sheath weapon
M about face
Retired elementalist theorycrafter
I use:
1234 for attunements
T(which is my mouse thumbbutton)QWER
AD strafe
S backup
both mouse buttons to move forward
shift-S dodge
B (mouse button) heal
mousebutton for autorun
f AoE loot, shift+f interact
m and mousebutton for map
~ weapon swap (for various items)
right alt for sheath weapon (to cancel build process animation)
space is jump
shift 2, shift 3 for first 2 utilities, mouse button for last
shift w for elite
c char panel
h scoreboard
z call target
i use wow cata mouse and use 5 mousebuttons: autorun, heal, map, autoattack, lightning flash
these binds are all easy for me as i don’t really play other classes, cept to get them to 80 or max another profession. i mess up dodge direction at times with these dodge bind, but whatever.
P.S. I don’t really care what Daphoenix does. I’ve read his page a bit, but I prefer 0/0/20/20/30 for d/d, and 0/30/0/10/30 for staff dps.
Re: argument further up page:
If you have 20 in earth you will always be able to take out FGS and get away clean
swap to water if you’re too slow, and dodge in it again if you are chain cc’d.
FGS is the only way you’ll ever catch a warrior.
Daphoenix key bindings were not that great
Try mine
To each their own I guess. :-) Personally, I prefer to activate my skills and turn using my mouse, and dodge by using doubletaps so I can control the direction regardless of the direction I’m moving in.
I even have separate ‘modes’ for jumping and fighting. I do jumping puzzles while moving with my mouse and fighting while moving with my arrow keys.
To each their own, because I can’t imagine anyone liking my setup, but it works out very well for me.
