Overview of the class, and a but of personal story issues

I have been looking through the forums for each profession, and I have found (not) to my surprise that the Elementalist forum is the only forum that is currently being bombarded by these “survivability threads”.

Design
Sure the class is ‘designed’ to be a ‘spell caster’ and by doing so means that they are vulnerable to enemy attacks in exchange for high damage output, BUT that does not seem like the case.

Damage
I (and many others) have been subject to attacks that are well over 6k, I can not know if these are crits for other people but in my case these are NORMAL attacks that go above 6k. So heres a question, has any other Elementalists here ever dealt a NORMAL 6k damage? I don’t mind if I have to use an Elite spell just to be able to do a single attack that is equivalent to some other profession’s normal skills/utlity, but please could I/we actually have one?

Heal
I have been looking into to maximise our healing potential (on ourselves), and I have noticed something very strange on some other forums E.g. Mesmer. People there were saying how the human racial heal (Prayer to Dwayna) was a lesser choice simply because the mesmer’s own is so much larger, I am not sure about this since my Mesmer is not human but it would be nice if someone else can tell me abou this. For an Elementalist, sure our own heal is larger than to the racial but ONLY when attuned to water AND it’s not even that much. With our own skill we have to wait for the over time heal to tick (subject to removal by enemy) which is highly undesirable in a desperate situation, on the other hand you can get a comparable heal to our own max heal IN ONE GO.

Personal Story
Since this is a PERSONAL story, I try my best to do this on my own as the name suggests but heres the problem. Frequently I/we are met with incredibly tough mobs, sure we get a sidekick but upon AOEing a group of mob on your trusty friend all hell unleashes. Now you have may be 10 mobs running at you, we can dodge/slow but here really is a limit when in our personal story we are sometimes cramped up in a tiny area (cave). Let me put this in perspective, a non-trait upgraded staff(5-Meteor Shower) AOE can quite frankly cover the whole room. OK, so whats the message here? I/we are given a profession that is described as above (first line), I/we are then expected to be able to keep distances/dodge from mobs (some veterans) in a tiny area. I’m not even talking about the range mobs that come accompanying these melee mobs, but for fun lets think about it. So you are being chased by say 5 mobs of which 1 is a veteran and another will knock you down if close enough, and then you have 2 to 3 mobs standing at the cave entrance shooting at you. As many of us would have noticed, the mobs like to ignore all your npc allies who seems so important and yet not on the enemy’s top wanted list. The game is very logical in my cases, so I would like to ask this: Given the choice of shooting one of your enemy’s heroes/leading figures or some random hero who just recently made their name. Who would you shoot first? Sure the hero may be a big threat in the future BUT we don’t know that yet, on the other hand you have a 100% threat e.g. Rytlok/Logan/Eir.

Just some thoughts

That’s the design of mages in pretty much any other role playing game.
In Guild Wars Elementalists gain utility and support for being squishy, not damage.

And don’t use the Staff in solo PvE, it’s a group weapon. It effectiveness increases dramatically if someone keeps at least some of the mobs attention away from you and uses all the combo fields you can start.

I actually do better soloing with a staff than any other weapon combo, so I have to disagree. I find that using daggers/scepters/etc. is just asking to die to a close-range beat down. With a staff, you can kite, CC and take out a fairly large amount of enemies in little time. I should also mention that I use both Elemental Gylphs when I solo, so I almost always have a pet to help, but I can do without as well.

Give me a link where anet say elementalist is a class support.

This is the description of an elementalist.

“Elementalist

Elementalists are multi-faceted spellcasters that channel elemental forces, making fire, air, earth, and water do their bidding. What they lack in physical toughness, they make up in versatility and the ability to inflict massive damage in a single attack."

Massive damage in a single attack (LOL) and versatility not support ok!!?

Guys rly stop with your stupid statement over and over because is obvious u play another class and not this.
Ele is the worst class atm, u can argue what you wont, end of story.

You just quoted it yourself. What else than support could versatility mean? “Damage” is a single facette, support is much much broader.

And they are able to inflict massive damage in a single attack, just not to a single target. Hardly any other attack in the game can dish out as much damage as a single Meteor Storm.

@Naryoril.6507

In any mmorpg healer is an example of a class suport not mage or “elementalist”.
Im a damage dealer but also i have cc because lack on defence so im versatile but this is not a support. The problem in gw2 is im not a damage dealer im not versatile, but i lack in defence.

Now or this is your first mmorpg or u are another troll.
Oh your class ? post a video with your super support stuff with an ele, after i post u a very support with a guardian…
