Hello all!
I just finished lvl ing… and I still don`t know much with ele. I want to run PVE mostly, maybe WvW a little… I rushed in to buy (with the little money I had) Valkyrie Gear for the extra vitality in dungeons. Traits are: 30/30/10/0/0 (F: II – VIII – XII; A: VI – IX – XII ;E: VI). Superior Rune of the Elementalist (cause I didn`t had money for something else). I also run S/F (LH). My questions: Is this viable for a newbie dungeon runner? Or should I switch to full Zerk (maybe a combianation of both)? What are the pros and cons for Valkyrie and Zerk? And with what can I live without? I would start to costumize my gear and I would like to not switch it anytime soon Thanks!

Valkyrie is fine to start, especially with all the fury you’ll have from 30 in Fire. Eventually, mix in zerker, but definitely take the time to get comfortable with an ele in melee first.

I’d say it depends on your playstyle. I like to start on hard mode and learn through a few deaths as that’s more efficient for me. I would certainly instantly swap to Zerk Gear w/ ruby orbs and swap to scholar runes when you get the money. If you like to ease into it by steadily getting harder, I’d buy a set of Zerk and put one piece on everytime you feel comfortable and like you’re not dying excessively. (Expect to die a lot in PuGs regardless of gear though simply because they do silly stuff to get groupmates killed.)

The pros to Zerk gear is that you do more damage and thus help your team more. The cons is that it’s easier to die, so until you learn the build and the dungeons you will die more, the opposite can be said about Valk gear.

Dungeons are pretty easy regardless of build. I play “hardmode” with zerk gear and what’s important isn’t really your gear but rather how much you know the paths for speed running. If you know what to do you can dungeon run evem with crappy gear.

Of course some dungeons are harder like Arah ones, but all the other ones are easy add long as you are properly prepared with the right utility skills. The most important thing is to be prepared for trash runs, so know when to do in armor of earth and vapor form, and know when you need those frost bows.

Your traits are a bit off though. You should use 30/30/0/10/0, with Piercing Shards in Water instead. I call it Build G in my guide (link’s in my sig). The 20% modifier in Water while using LH is better than the 10% via Earth VI.

Zerk/assassins is the best. The exact mix differs based on which build you use; I detailed which pieces of gear should be what for each build in my guide. For runes, use Scholars.
