So, i wonder if there is some sence in playing eles in PVP since u can just pick a ranger/warrior/mesmer/every other class except thieves and do ur job better, easier and safer?
Tested a lot of builds, tanky/semitanky/dd/supp/tempest(ffs). Staff is not quite usefull, cause u get focused in no time. DD is all about facetanking with a class with only 11-15k hp (and thats suicidal). Scepter, is there a scepter in this game? In the most def build i could get, every warrior or ranger 3shot me. Full zerk = 1 -2 shot while all of our save mechs are down.
So i came down to the main question, what use can u make out of ele in PVP?
Im not saying im a pro player or something, on the contrary, played as ele for about a half a year, but i cant simply figure out a way to make ele work in PVP. If anyone could answer the questions above or/and give some tips to get this horse(ele) running, i would pretty much be gratefull.

If you have access to elite spec (Tempest) you would have the most OP PvP choice according to general public opinion.
Without getting into details… choose Celestial crystal and water + earth + tempest traits.

The mandatory traits are:
Earth: Diamond Skin and Elemental shielding
Water: Soothing Ice and Powerful Aura (If you want support/team play) or cleansing water if having problems with condis.
Tempest: Elemental Bastion

The idea is to use auras and their boons to sustain yourself and team while dealing damage on the sides with mostly overloads and staff aoe. That said you need stability to either heal or overload other than earth (use armor of earth) and need auras, being feel the burn and flash freeze kinda the most reliable ones.

Take the pain away is the healing option to go for if support.

If you are new to Ele, I suggest you invest your time else where, like Engi/Druid. Ele is about to get nerfed. And if it’s anything like the history of 3 years, we will be nerfed to the bottom class, and it will take at least 6 months for Ele to be viable again.

Both D/D and Staff Ele still have a good place in PvP, but we’ve seen a decline in Eles in the ESL because of 3 reasons:

- Staff-Ele is not as bunkery and strong in 1v1’s as other builds.
- D/F Ele is absolute crap and ppl start to realize it.
- No1 seems to have figured out that D/D is actually absolutely amazing in the current meta.

- Staff-Ele can still be very strong if your team aims for bigger teamfights (3v3 and more).
- D/D-Ele can be a very strong allrounder/roamer that can win most 1v1’s, and at least survive and keep the node against the other MU’s. It also has a freewin against Necro or Condi-Rev for example.

Both Ele-variants still offer heavy teamsupport and especially the D/D has a huge DMG-output if you take the AoE cleanses, prot, reg, vigor, heal, auras etc. into account.

My prediction was correct xD. Now we gotta enjoy the bottom class Ele for 6 months before they buff it over the top again.

well no, u dont actually know if ur prediction was or was not correct til the actual Patch notes realistically go live, they still have another 11 Days to show something different or to fail.

Lets atleast wait it out before we assume its going to be awful, we might not be the Worst proffession, there are other proffessions getting Nerfed, the Cele Removal will have a Impact on the proffession ofcourse, but it doesnt mean the death of the proffession.. aslong as they buff the Elementalist to be Strong at something.

Okay, point taken. Let’s wait 11 days; however, I don’t have a lot of high hope as long as Karl is still in charge of Ele, lol.

All in all it is just one mode afterall. This is an MMO, there is still PvE to fall back on. As well as WvW which is pretty fun if you ask me.

I just think that PvP is too volatile and of course Anet keeps trying to make it an esport which it simply will never be.

PvE Ele are still pretty good. But if you want to get into PvP, probably Reaper will be a better choice. It’s decent for this patch and very good for next patch since the main counter is gone.

Well, I think he means DS. Right now there’s no way a condi necro will kill you in a 1v1. They simply cannot break DS and ele will eventually kill them. This goes for staff eles, too.

However, I don’t agree it has a freewin against condition revenant. They run viper, they can break DS easily and the amount of conditions they output is usually too much for the ele to handle. I’m not saying viper rev will destroy ele, but it will usually have the uppder hand. They have more damage and still enough sustain. Now I’m talking about staff, if it was d/d ele I’d imagine it’s a pretty even match up.

Viper rev is doable with dd aura mancer, power rev on the other hand is a complete pain.

Well, that’s the thing… it isn’t about D/D but Earth. Hence why I’m asking. I wouldn’t list it as “the reason why you can overcome necros / revs” while listing D/D advantages over D/F. It’s an Earth advantage over taking Air/Fire/Arcana.
