Petition: Fix L. Whip and Fire Grab
i totally agree i hate the constant missing of L.whip when im right in freaking front of the person and for fire grab i just kiss my rabbits foot and cross my fingers it lands….
Yeah, this should be a top priority bug that needs to be fixed ASAP – these are actual weapon attacks on a class with few weapon choices.
If your within range of a target it SHOULD hit the target.

If you miss stationary object with lightning whip, try looking a little above the object. It’s weird, but I noticed that in 90% of cases where I get misses against stationary objects, if I tilt my camera a bit upwards, it starts to connect.

Lightning Whip used to be more accurate, before they made it aoe. Now it has a very slow animation (the attack itself isn’t slow) and deals actual damage when the “whip” hits a target, due to the strange “arc” of the whip it is very hard to hit a moving target with any accuracy. Also about the stationary objects, it has no problems hitting tall objects, like Dredge towers, the problem appears when you are hitting shorter targets, like everything in Tixx’s Airship for example or Burrows in AC. This happens because the “whip” is aimed higher, if you notice the animation, so it misses on shorter targets.
Fire Grab needs to have a much much wider cone of attack.
I don’t have much faith in these though, last patch “fixed” the overpowered MG and RtL but didn’t fix the 3month old bugs they had (yes the same skills the fixed in a day have been bugged for 3 months but nothing about that), both can still stun the user. But of course something that affects Thieves (and other Anet’s favorite profs) is fixed instantly, something that affects Eles remains bugged for 3 months with no fix in sight.

To be fair, Thieves have a lot of issues since the beta too, and they’re still not fixed. But Elementalists have more of those unfortunately

I literally hit with Fire Grab maybe 20% of the time… its soooo frustrating having to pray that my biggest burst attack hits the target right in front of me rather than knowing and planning for it.
I have a theory though, that I havent been able to test enough, It possibly always just aims the direction you were facing when you start the cast rather than where you are facing when the cast ends. That would explain why you hit more often when you are just standing still while casting it.
I don’t know, either way please fix these skills!!

For Fire Grab, I notice I get to hit people more often with it when I practically ‘hug’ the target. Any other thoughts on Fire Grab?

For Fire Grab I think Rhoto is correct, as I can somewhat confirm it, Fire Grab always aims at the direction you are facing when you start casting it and hits there, even if both you and your target move away… either make the character immovable while casting (we don’t want this though) or give FG a wider arc of attack, in both cases at least you will be 100% sure that you will hit or miss.
I’d also like to add Drake’s Breath and Cone of Cold to this list. Both skills are too dispersed and the ticks are too slow. If you compare this to Cleansing Flame on a Guardian their skill is extremely responsive and focused, those of you who have played both classes will know what I mean.
I’ve had many occassions where I’ve been leading the target as they strafe around me and both skills miss due to how dispersed and slow to track the skills are.

Hmm, I like this idea very much, =D. I hope for an increased arc for FG, no use having such a hard hitting skill never even reaching it’s target even if you aimed correctly :/.

Yeah I agree on this too. The skills feel rather slow and sometimes just useless if it misses halfway due to the damage having to start over, instead of building up.
i ONLY use fire grab when there are enemies trying to ress it can hit very much but it also misses alot ,. if you cast fire grab the animation begins , if you quickly turn around to aim it at the opponent it always misses it either reads “miss” or out of range or something , as for lightning whip i cant remember i used this spell ever but i guess its pretty amazing dmg ,. it looks cool to please Anet fix these skills
and another thing , if you use the common d/d combo rtl->updraft->burning speed-Ring of fire/fire grab , the stars have to be alligned for fire grab to hit , the hitbox has to be bigger something like fire #1 in dagger/dagger

I believe that it is caused by this: If you press the right mouse button and turn the character, you actually just turn the camera, not the whole character. The character responses to this turning only when you are moving it (running forwards, backpedaling etc.), which is somewhat wrong, because left button should turn camera-only, right button should turn the character even if not moving (as it is usually in 3rd person MMOs) imho.
That’s actually a very good point Stranger since I’ve changed my “a” and “d” keys to strafe and steer/aim exclusively with right-mouse button (carpel tunnel anyone?). I still think the ticks should be more like Cleansing Flame though.

It’s funny that this was maybe the very first thing which I noticed when started the game for the first time in beta, this little, but annoying difference when compared to other games of this genre
Couldn’t agree more, keep the aoe part of both tho, every melee attack seems to be aoe so should these since they are melee as well.
Each time an enemy dodges infront of you, on top of that you miss 3 or 4 more hits afterwards.

I am surprised no one has mentioned our new leap finisher Magnetic Grasp. While I was delighted that I have a new finisher for my combos, half the time it’s animation hangs in a charge state thus not finishing the combo. One would think this would have been fixed prior along with tuning the ability. It is bad enough to try to get all my finishers down before Ring of Fire drops but this not only prevents the finisher from completing, it puts you right under the mob unable to control your character until the animation unbugs which often gets me killed.
I’ve tried to find out when MG bugs like that. Usually it does bug when you have a target selected and someone else (or another obstacle) is between you and your target. You will move towards the obstacle then stay there for the full duration of the skill, essentially stunning yourself
