Petition for Elementalist Greatsword
I’d love it, to be able to give my main ele a legendary sword, not some tiny daggers that can’t even be seen because of armor clipping. :P
However, I don’t think it will be happening, at least not any time soon. Designing 20 new skills is a lot of work, not to mention when other professions start complaining why they didn’t get a new weapon too.
So.. Maybe in a few years in an expansion?
Ya I’m not expecting anything, just thinking out loud……..er on the Internet. I can hope though
This is the thing that confused me aswell after i got a bit leveled up (where is our single target DPS weapon?).

What they should put in is a 10/20/30 point trait option to change the staffs (for example) attacks from AOE to single target attacks based on the same attacks.
Like so (think similair skills across F/W/A/E changed to ST instead of AOE).
Fire example.
Fireball
Cast a fireball that explodes on impact and hits multiple foes.
To.
Cast a fireball that explodes on impact and burns the target.
Lava Font
Make lava erupt from the target area.
To.
Make lava erupt directly under the targer (no longer an AOE placed spell).
Flame Burst
Burn foes at the target location.
To.
Burn the target – extra damage is applied to an already burning target.
Burning Retreat
Quickly roll backward, leaving behind a line of fire that burns.
No need for change.
Meteor Shower.
Call down a meteor shower onto the target area.
To.
Asteriod Strike.
Call down an asteroid strike onto the target.

Doing this means people can’t moan about extra weapons and we have to give up AOE for single target or give up single target for AOE.

I actually wouldn’t want a Greatsword, because they already have one conjure for that.
I would love a MH Sword. Some kind of more traditional melee/ mid-range Battlemage playstyle would be very popular, I think, and high-fantasy players love sword-wielding heroes (even when they’re spellcasters). That, or give them something crazy, like a rifle, for single target, long-range elemental powder bursts. :O But I see a Mesmer having higher priority at receiving unexpected weapons.

It would be an interesting idea, but I don’t think it would work as efficient as we would hope for an Elementalist. You have to remember their 20 abilities are derived from the weapons, so they need to be consistent with the attitude of an Elementalist.
We currently do have single target DPS skills, its just that you may not feel it if you are sticking to only using one element in each fight. I’m currently level 36 and I’m trying to use all my elements while fighting, and it works wonderfully. I have a staff equipped and feel that I have a wonderful amount of single target only abilities.
Also keep in mind, an Elementalist is wielding these ferocious powers that are suppose to devastate a group of enemies. Giving them a greatsword would kind of defeat that purpose, and would feel awkward hitting just a single target. Take the lightning hammer for example, I like it, but it feels awkward because the skills mainly focus on one target when I feel like I should be hitting multiple. This may just be me though, so only take these as my opinions.
We have Fiery Greatsword as an elite.
I agree, I think it would be pretty dang sweet. But I can see why they wouldn’t. As for me, I am content with the staff.

I would like eles to be able to use greatswords, or at least swords. Come on.. battle mages? spellswords? They dont have to be melee, but swords are just such iconic sorcerer-esque weapons.
You could tote around a sword as an elementalist in GW1, I’d be all on board for a main hand sword or a greatsword in GW2. I’m not sure how I feel about both, but I think either MH sword or a greatsword is a great idea.
And hey, Gandalf carried around Glamdring, right?
I would ok with a MH sword as long as it’s decent range. I love the offensive feel of D/D but I don’t like being so close. A caster should keep at a distance in my opinion. I know its not a traditional mage but whatever. The main reason I would rather have a greatsword is because a MH sword would need an offhand. Dagger is too close range and would defeat the purpose and focus is too defensive.
