Yesterday was the first time I played an Elementalist
After reading the forums I was a bit nervous and put off, thinking that the Elementalist would be horribly broken and unable to do any useful tasks. So I started off in sPvP, without changing any default traits, runes, or amulets. All I did was pick up a staff and test it out.

My Thoughts on Staff
It’s a team fight weapon. That’s it. It provides excellent boons, amazing debuffs for the enemy team, and alright damage, not great, but with all the utility it’s really not needed. The complaints about meteor shower made me question why I thought it was good when I tried it. It’s cast time was a bit much, but it still provided team support during fights. However I felt like Meteor Shower was more of a skill that I used last. I usually popped my debuff, and heal AoE skills, then switched to Meteor Shower as a “Kill the last of em” skill. The fire attunement was a bit lack luster for staff, but since I was using it for utility, I guess I can see why. The only reason I went to fire was for the escape move. Other than that, staff was a great weapon for support, utility, and a bit of offense.

My Thoughts on Dagger Main Hand.
Basically this was one of my favorites. The utility, damage, and effects that dagger main hand provided was amazing. My favorite skill is probably Earth attunement’s 3 skill, or the grab. Nothing like jumping off a ledge, grabbing an enemy, and having him stun locked for 15 seconds while I’m pulled to him in a buggy fashion. Overall though, I felt that this was a very offensive weapon that provided some interesting effects. Good for fast movement, and alright for team fights. Not as good as staff for support, but it makes up for it in offense.

My Thoughts on Scepter
It’s an amazing damage dealing weapon. Done all from range. The scepter is probably the strongest weapon for elementalist that I’ve tried, just since everything can be done from a range. It can provide great synergy in team fights, prevent stops, and keep foes blinded so you can burst them down. The dragon tooth hit more than not, since people generally don’t focus on it, but instead on the enemies in front of them. Overall a great weapon for damage, locking down targets, and preventing stomps. Also has some good AoE skills for support.

My Thoughts on Focus Offhand
This is a very underrated weapon, it’s amazing for defense, and amazing for support. Overall, I’d use this with being tanky in mind. Although it requires some good judgement and skill to use, I’d say that this weapon is one of the strongest in the Elementalist’s arsenal, rivaling the dagger offhand in terms of being amazing.

My Thoughts on Dagger Offhand
Even though this weapon is amazing for damage, I found that I used it even more for CC and mobility. The AoE effects it provided also made for amazing team fight synergy and pretty high burst potential. This is the one I think I’ll be sticking with for my main hand dagger, just since I need to be on my target to do damage. The AoE heal from the water attunement is not to be under estimated as well, I could fight an enemy, while starting with 1k health, and in 5 seconds be at full. Very good weapon.

Thoughts on Utility Skills
I thought most of them were lack luster. The Glyphs and Signets were kinda crap, so I didn’t use them. Except for the heal on using spell one. The Arcane abilities were awesome, and great for damage, the elemental based ones provided some great stun breaking and good potential for stomping. Overall, the utility skills were great, except for the glyphs and signets, which is bad because they make up the majority of the utility skills. I probably am just a noob and don’t know how to use them yet, maybe they’re great, I’m just a first timer.

Thoughts on Elite Skills
I didn’t use the Firey Greatsword, as I need to have the ability to use all my skills in order to be viable. I barely used the tornado for the same reason, although the knock back is good, and the damage is great. I pretty much used the summon elemental pet one all the time. I found that the only elemental worth summoning was the water one, as it provided an AoE heal. The other ones I didn’t notice any difference when fighting an enemy, maybe they did something, maybe they didn’t. I really couldn’t tell unless it was the water elemental.

My Thoughts on Elementalist
Ele is a super versatile, very viable, and very high potential class. The team support, debuffs, and damage that all of their weapons offer is something to behold, any sPvP team that has a good ele will have amazing survivability and team fight capability. Ele can choose between support and utility from staff, defense and utility from focus, offensive capabilities from dagger, utility and offensive capabilities from scepter, and astounding mobility and damage from offhand dagger.

I have a lvl 80 Guardian, Thief, and Engineer, along with a lvl 23 Necro, and I feel that Elementalist is my favorite class. They have many strengths, and are very hard to take down. With their team support and AoE utility, I think that ele will be my next lvl 80.

Considering you’ve played only 1 day of Ele, I’d say your analysis is spot on!

Glyphs and signets are good when you trait for them. However, I just love cantrips, which you can trait for as well. They make me feel invincible. Cleansing Fire is my favorite cantrip. Inflicts burning to enemies and clears a whopping three conditions. The only problem with it is the cooldown time.
The elite skills in my opinion are not that great. I guess the elemental summon and tornado are pretty good.
