Post 11/15, what's REALLY changed for you?
I’ve now joined the hordes of d/d eles. Before I used staff the most, and used d/d to travel, but know I mainly just stick with d/d. It’s actually better aoe damage since I can’t might stack on my staff anymore. I mainly just use staff for events now, or if there’s 8+ mobs for some reason.

I also no longer use staff and I use S/D now. I tried D/D for a bit and that’s cool too. Just currently trying out S/D.
Still on staff but I changed my spec and all my gear,. I moved to the Apothecary and Passiflora sets.
So without double checking my stats are base power and perc | 1670 t | 16k hp | 1200 cond dmg,1100 HP and spec of 0/0/20/30/20
As i play a support role i have found this perfect for my play style. – dots, combo fields, healing, stance dance
I’ve stuck with my same build (the only reason I keep Evasive Arcana is for the condition removal under water). I just pewpew from 1200 range when I run dungeons instead of giving boons up close and continue using D/D for traveling/farming. Pretty boring. I find my Warrior more fun now.

Its changed my playstyle a bit, I now use RTL as an opener and as a gap closer/dps burst. Before i ONLY used RTL for traveling or an escape because it was not dependable in the slightest

I guess I was lucky because I’ve been playing d/d since beta, so I can still stack a reasonable amount of might even without evasive. I still use it for the conditions/extra heal though, but I’ve definitely changed up my approach a bit.
I’ve been using D/D for the most part since BWE1, and EA hasn’t been in my build for quite a while now, so nothing too major changed for me with this update… Except that that my favorite gap closer in the game is now reliable. =P

Basically, mainly staff eles were hit a lot by the nerf. DD Eles and SD eles are still ok. I feel half as good because I depended so much on comboing everything and healing when I needed it. I loved comboing with Arcane Wave and EA.
I switched to DD the day before the patch (just because I felt like a change.) Then the patch hit and I felt very prescient, hah.
Is the Elementalist info on Noxxic still current?

I’m not sure I’d roll with those utility skills either, but if I want to re-trait I’d rather do it properly. I’m primarily a staff ele but occasionally switch to dual daggers if say my effectiveness in a typical Orr D/E scenario is being undermined. I’m not particularly good up close with and ele, especially with such soft armour, so I’ll tend to kite enemies more often than not. My play style is usually defensive, but not defensive enough to sit on the sidelines and play the missing monk. I’ll cause damage from 1200/1500 range but will mostly avoid direct aggro.

Not luck and credit cards.”
in a word : nothing from what i can tell. i’ve been sticking to S/D for a while now and i switch to D/D when i need to land more AoE while being mobile.
Still playing the staff. Still as powerful as it was in dungeons an PvE, but a lot more boring (gameplay turned more static).
As for PvP, I now have no chance in 1v1 instead of a small chance.
Can’t play my Elementalist in PvE anymore, it now feels dull and without the added mechanic of dodge/blasting fields I can’t find a reason to not play my Guardian instead: if I “have” to play an easy toon then it might also be the most effective one, support/tanky Guardian (Altruistic Healing-Hammer).
Survivability is incredible, I will die only if I fall asleep, line of warding spells provide an incredible CC, same goes for Wall of Reflection, multiple boons to buff my group with, group stability (this is huge) aegis, blast finisher every 4seconds, etc..
I do not mean to start a profession-war, that’s just my feeling about Elementalist’ pve fun which is totaly a personal preference.
I still enjoy grouping with other Eles (whatever the build/weapon used), I just retired mine to pvp only because thats the only scenario where I feel “challenged” now
P.S. I play(ed) mostly as D/D, so my effectiveness wasn’t hurt nearly as much as a staff user, but the fun I have has been almost halved.
since patch ?? I stop playing this game ….

I swapped the 10 points in acana into fire and running with 10% more damage in fire as D/D.
I find it actually works better than before, I prefer the extra damage as most of my burst comes from the fire attunement. That’s not to say I stick to fire… no, my play style has barely changed but now my burst is stronger.
I used to play both D/D and Staff support, now sticking to D/D in every situations. Staff is back to the “sucks for damage but cant build for anything else” state.
I login less due to frustration at Anet failing Elementalists.
Stopped playing spvp on my elementalist because it plays like a kittened engineer now.
Respecced to a condition based staff build in pve to try and make up for lost damage. dropped healing power completely because I feel it no longer gives enough. Hurray for spamming eruption all day long, but atleast it’s fairly effective and gives some blast finishers if I can be bothered to time fields. Also magnetic field is just so great in the new content it’s nice to have -20% on the cooldown of that.
Srsly people,
Am I blind or stupid? I dont see any dramatic changes done to staff in this patch notes:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Game-Update-Notes-November-15-2012
Only tooltip fixes (if we dont count RTL and magnetic grasp).
Im not playing staff ele nor active pve. So I dont get that staff nerf.
Please enlighten me in case of staff nerf.
I switched glyph of elementals for conjured ice bow. I might change it back though if there really is a bug that removes your weapon’s effect T_T
I liked the slight range increases for Dagger/Fire 1 (300 to 400) and Dagger Lightning 1 (130 to 300).

The nerf wasn’t to staff directly, but to the Grandmaster trait Evasive Arcana. EA used to provide a Blast finisher every time you dodged (in addition to the normal elemental spell left behind). Staff users in particular could use Evasive Arcana dodging to repeatedly Blast in either water or fire fields to stack AoE healing or might. Now the only Blast finishers on Staff are Eruption (which has such a high cast time that its only usable as a finisher if you drop it first or use a longer field like Healing Rain) or Arcane Blast.
Personally, I’m of the opinion that a free finisher on every dodge was broken anyway, so I think the nerf was a good thing. But I think a lot of the outrage is over the fact that people were relying on those finishers to “make up” for being otherwise unimpressive. A lot of people viewed Evasive Arcana as their one real advantage, so taking it away (even if they might acknowledge it was OP) without giving anything positive hurts.
As for me… my Elementalist is only level 34, so I never got to play with EA anyway. And I play D/D so I probably wouldn’t have relied on it too much anyway. Didn’t change anything for me personally.

The blast every finisher was too much. That being said since you dont play ele that much let me enlighten you to the main issue. Many expected and hope ea would be nerfed. Many were using every dodge for a blast finisher. So it went like this vigor field dodge 3 times and stack might or healing. No attunement swap necessary. Many ele complained its was a broken tactic and that EA should only provide blast on the internal timer (10 seconds).
The real problem stems from EA being a blast finisher from the start and removing that role entirely this late in. Many players created playstyles around this skill. Once it was changed those styles were gone. Overall this makes staff an inferior weapon compared to D/D or S/D. Hilariously this is actually a nerf to healing (which was also nerfed in that patch in many ways). While it might not be a big deal to you and honestly barely bothered my build but it was to the community at large. I showed a big disconnect between Anet and our community.

My class. I am a Guardian now. I don’t do this lightly either, my main in GW1 was an elementalist and I loved him. Full exotics, full dungeon armor (Arah), and half of the Bifrost ingredients. He’s storage now. That was like taking backstab off of thieves.

Started leveling my Warrior and Engineer alts in earnest. A lot of the survival skills I learned as a young (low level) elementalist have really helped my engineer stay alive. My warrior is just easy mode, which is fun when I don’t want to think.
When I do play my ele, I use a staff when my Guardian friend is on or when I’m running around for daily harvests. Otherwise, it’s D/D. I’m also more open to trying S/D again if I find an exotic scepter.
