Earth trait can help you resist burst from something like thief. One burst. Or you can even cast shower with rock solid and this, that’s great! But what’s next? You will be bursted again. Or just spammed 3. And staff ele still doesn’t have stats or skills to effectively survive that, not ot say about 1v2 or 1v3 fights. And such ele still cannot do anything to decapper engies. So this will be an OP bunker? Better that guardian? As a joke such assumption is fine, no doubts.
Water trait is just a crap and doesn’t worth abandoning cleansing waters. It just doesn’t fit in current team tactics.

Ele will never be the class to play for killing multiples while soloing unless you are vsing noobs, which there are a lot of. Sounds like you want something OP to play? If you want to be good at killing multiple targets play a mesmer.

“spammed 3” are you talking about s/p thieves? those are annoying for a few classes, not just elementalist so I fail to see your point.

Not exactly s/p or s/d thieves but rather sustained damage pressure. I’m not going to talk about other classes on ele forum, but staff ele is completely disabled by this and new earth trait will not help it in any way.

Now a glass support ele has plenty of ways to remove conditions, to AoE heal, to AoE cc/snare and to do some damage on top of it. If you can’t survive one thief with a cleric staff ele, that is a L2P issue. You can probably hold on your own 1v2 (not as well as a guardian, though) but you will shine in a team fight !
Now indeed, it can’t do much against decap engis but ele can at least be a very good support, having +25% outgoing heal for allies is priceless if the ennemy team doesn’t use conditions. It can play the support role at mid just fine, perhaps not better than guardian but we shall have to see.

Unlike guardian staff ele will always be focused and killed first (and quite fast) in team fights. What’s a point in giving it a “support” role, who will take it instead of guardian? And yes, you have to choose between direct heal and condi removal (that becomes a trend in ele’s traits) so you can confidently divide expected ele’s effectiveness by 2.

Sound more like I found “OP” in thread’s title. Oh, yes, maybe staff ele will be in a bit better position after patch (promoted from “mediocre” to “sub-decent”) but I still cannot see anything OP about it, no roles where it will be “overpowered” or at least as good as current leaders.

After watching that video, I’m inclined to agree. I’ve personally found the staff to be a great weapon (even in 1v1). It’s mostly the instant bursts from thieves or the perma cc from engineers that made me doubt myself as a player. But the weapon itself is great. Lots of fun, and it has a lot of different tricks.

I have no doubt that for those that don’t like the staff now, it won’t be viable after the patch either. But for the rare few that play staff on pro level (which I’m not yet at, mind you) the changes will make them a force to be reckoned with for sure. Even in sPvP.

So your problem is that the new gm trait is gonna be inferior to the ultimate cleansing group trait thats cleansing water without icd?? and thats somehow bad for staff ele?? :P
Its not gonna be a joke at all with the new runes and sigil against comps with low condi damage. Cleansing water makes the condi meta go away and after its subsided new gm trait becomes viable ?!?! maybe
Right now if you cast healing rain its quite possible that you wont get any extra cleansing AT ALL if the icd of cleansing water has kicked in from elem att or soothing wave and you randomly cleansed yourself some vuln or whatever.That doesnt stop staff clearing condies just fine..just not that efficiently. You can go with just cleansing wave and evasive arcana and still have some aoe cleansing potential and save windborn speed for snares and immob or just let the heavy condi clearing for someone else

staff water auto =370 + 0.25 *hpower = 720 at 1400 healing power =1050 with rune,sigil trait at 240 radius aoe every 1.35 sec
See how much that stupid auto that nobody uses is gonna heal your melee brusier warrior pal without your ev arcana.healing ripple,geyser,blasts on water fields ,regen,soothing wave which all are gonna get pumped up as well??

Well, I’ll definitely at least try Stone Heart staff bunker in PvP with x/x/30/x/x. I’ll stay in earth and spam #1 for weakness and watch then hit me for puny direct damage just for the lulz. Of course I’ll still most probably melt against Engis and Necros

ehm, not sure if serious or… xD
Mesmer = not many AoE —→ focus on single targets
Elementalist = almost no single target skills --→ guess what? —→ yup, focus on taking down multiple opponents

even better: with double dagger 90% of our offensive spells are PBAoE, specifically intended to deal with multiple foes at once.

Unfortunately “something went wrong” along the way and Arena Net decided to suppress this aspect – originally clearly part of the intended design – and only the overall mechanic remained while the original effectiveness has been completely removed.

I am looking forward 15april patch to see if I can get back some of my original fun from Elementalist…. crossing fingers.

I hate to break it to you but you pretty much just agreed with his assessment. It doesn’t matter what the d/d was meant to do, the fact is it can’t kill multiple targets at least in it current state so he was right.

The elementalist was meant to be a lot of thing, could have, should have, if none of those things matter in reality.

nope, I didn’t ^^ you should pay more attention both to the content, the form and the appearance. He/she said that “ele will NEVER be blah blah”, I pointed out how that’s not what the class is supposed to be on paper therefore I expect things, somehow, someday, to change.
And btw, if someone want to kill multiple targets we all know it’s just a matter of 100 blades to heart content, or for certain aspects of WvW thief.
