Pyromancer?
Fire trait line + stay in fire attument? in pve. For more pyro feeling utilities that goes around fire theme like flame axe or fiery greatsword.
But is isn’t simply like that, when you will have small hp, you will change attument for water to heal wait cd and back to fire.
In pvp / wvw you will get the feeling that it is far away from only sticking to fire, but pretty much dmg is from there.
Tempest maybe able to pull off the pyromancer build though i do not think you would use a warhorn so d/d ele with the new fire shout.

One thing I’ve noticed looking at videos, elementalist seems to be in melee range very often. Are many classes like that? or is it possible to do full dps from range as ele?
If you are solo, you won’t be able to completely stay out of melee. Not unless you can kill the enemy really, really fast. Even using the staff, you are unlikely to avoid melee range, especially against multiple opponents.

Don’t know how well it translates to pvp/wvw though. Probably could replace the sinister gear for celestial in those game modes.
If you don’t like a fire-based elementalist, consider making a flamethrower-based engineer. I know a few people who like playing it and enjoy it quite much!
