Hey guys. Recently roaming with my guardian I came across an ele that not only was tanky as all get out, but he hit like a truck. Landing crits between 4-8k while taking hardly any damage at all from me. Also recently faced an ele in spvp that was about the same.

I am not familiar with the build/gear that these guys may have been rolling, but is there currently a known build like this?

I know it is. But just wondering if there’s any type of meta d/d build out there that I wasn’t familiar with.

I’m thinking the eles you are describing are either using cav gear/trinkers for WvW and Valk amulet for spvp.

Probably. That’s what I was thinking gear wise. Anyone have thoughts on builds that would allow an ele to be a tank that hits like… a tank??

Maybe the Ele was really glass but he was just really good at not getting hit? Also in sPvP the zerker amulet gives some vitality so glass eles have a minimum of 14k hp.

Your own build matters alot as to how much damage you take too btw.

I don’t know much about builds but seems like he was in Cavalier’s gear to stay tough as mentioned, and used a trait in Air to get 10% extra crit damage on Arcane Skill use, and used Arcane Power to make his next 5 attacks crit, and made sure those were his hard hitting skills

I’m assuming valk/cavalier, something like 0/10/10/20/30

High fury uptime, as well as stone splinters for higher damage.

Sounds like soldiers gear with cavelier trinkets. Most likely using boon duration runes and stacking might really well. It was probably more of a balanced build you faced against if the crits where only 4k.

If its spvp he was probably running min maxed zerker and was pro with a focus/evades.

Much truth is in this statement.

To me the build sounds like what I run normally. He probably had a standard trait layout:
0/10/10/20/30 – 0/10/20/10/30 – 0/0/20/20/30 – 0/10/0/30/30 or 0/0/10/30/30.

There’s lots of guesses as to armor, but I guarantee he was using something that gave him toughness and crit damage, and gained power from food/armor.

Building well to match your skill means you’ll do well. Only thing you most likely won’t conquer is multiple condi spammers.

If you actually spend the time to min max as a D/D ele you’re able to build quite tanky while throwing out some good damage. But 90% of Elementalists just like to slap on clerics and complain about the lack of damage we have.
