RTL: what happened?
Hi,
So I play a guardian and I use a friends warrior often. Love the guardian, + buffs inc :-).
Anyway I decided to lvl an ele because I enjoyed playing it back when the game launched before taking a break.Could someone point me to the dev post explaining the nerfs to RTL?
The cool down mechanic is weird. I can Rush on the warrior every 20 seconds regardless of connecting with something (dodge omg). The distance on RTL also got reduce? I can tele(sword 2,10sec cd) then JI further on my guardian than I can RTL then flash on an ele?
I really can’t find logic in it so I’m hoping long time ele’s could enlighten me.
Just a note.
As a long time competitive WOW pvper I have to say that gw2 does a decent job of balancing in comparison to most MMO’s. MMO’s are tough to balance because of the emotional involvement those that balance the game naturally develop with classes. After all MMO’s are built to do just that and no matter how subjective one tries to be emotion will always come into play.
Well, there’s really no logic to be found on the RTL nerf, only thing that comes to my mind is that someone don’t want Eles to have anything nice/working good, so basically everything good which Eles had is nerfed for some time.
I guess Ele players were too skilled for PvP so we are buried deep for this purpose now.
Yep RTL was nerfed from 15s cooldown with ~1500 range to now 20/40 CD and 1200 range. Why? No one know.
Apparently it gave “bunker ele” way too much mobility.
Fix? Nerf RTL for every kind of build, even if you were not playing the infamous bunker ele (0/10/0/30/30). Some people also hated the fact that ele “could get away from everything”.
It’s a balancing disgrace. Even more now that you get people like Warriors that can do the same with less effort, why aren’t those getting nerfed as much?
RTL nerfs should be reverted.
Ele & thief main (full ascended)
Down with the braindead faceroll classes.
basically to prevent that an ele could escape every fight they don’t want. no big deal for most players that don’t jump on every bandwagon they come across.
I ll explain it way better..
One day “spirit watch” happened….
That is the sole and only reason for rtl nerf.
Other things you will read are mostly speculations….
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
basically to prevent that an ele could escape every fight they don’t want. no big deal for most players that don’t jump on every bandwagon they come across.
Well, there are still at least two more classes that can easily do that, and only we were hit by the nerf-bat.
Sounds fair, really….
Edit: I understand now, we were hit by the nerf-bat three times, so the two other classes should thank us for taking a bullet for them…

Perfectly fine for thieves and warriors though.
Especially warriors. It’s not like they already get the best stats and damage in the game.

Here here! “Too much mobility,” well with the smallest health and damage pools in the game, that’s what keeps us alive half the time! Getting ‘away from everything,’ is like our signature survival tactic. We HAVE to be slippery and hard to pin down. Yet like you said, warrior can run way better than we ever could hope to now, yet they ALSO have massive health, toughness, and damage – Ridiculous! GS + bull charge + sword lunge and you’ve outran every other class in the game (I have one, I know).
Still playing my ele main, holding onto a shred of hope the patch today doesn’t completely bork me, and a smaller shred that we’ll one day be a class on par with the others.
The issue isn t the smallest pool
The issue is “the only profession locked in short range fight”
Also i repeat spirit watch was the reason….
And remember they still have to nerf FGS mobility…..as they said in the past ….they are only waiting the proper time, since tha PAX débâcle wasnt the right time.

I understand that filtering through the rubbish on forums is a tough task especially for a dev (wtb Regina), so things are going too get overlooked.
I’m still super surprised this hasn’t been addressed in the form of an explanation at least. Although I would have expected a revert given the current state of other classes.
Anet seem to be getting better at explaining changes so they appreciate that players are capable of understanding coherent (for the most part) logical.
Chalk this one down to human error. :-(
Edit: one thing being broken in one institution is fun imho. I see no reason to twist knickers over it.

I’d really like to get a dev response on this. When can we expect a revert on RTL? Admit you made a mistake and fix it already!
There was no logic on nerfing RTL. They promised that the competetive elementalists won’t be affected by the nerfs. But we all know that’s not true.

When staff will be OP (=barely viable for anet) the cycle of nerfs/buffs will restart.
Staff was once nerfed to get where it is now and ddagger was buffed…..Now is getting some nerfs reverted and some buffs….

Well, to be honest, I don’t see any staff nerfs reverted so far….
well sorta…referring to old staff gameplay, getting again blast finishers and glyph of renewal (another great double standard compared to warriors).

I would like to see the original Lava font version (well, all AOE with the same mechanic), because I still remember what an instant first tick feels like, I’ll never forget this….
i have a war and a ele
let’s say RTL can not be affected by conditions, while rush move like a snail with condition on, like 300~ range with chill and cripple if my memory is correct.
according to devs, ele used to rtl away and water heal up and quick engage again. they made it so that you can quick engage and disengage, but wont be able to quick engage again after it.
again if you are comparing about pure range, game is not balanced on how far you can run off fight in open world…
and for everyone saying that rush bc sword2 out run anyone, i have a thief too, i must say no one..no one can out run a thief in terms of off fight map running..just…too.. fast
“berserker stance clears all CC on you and you’re still immune to CC for 8 seconds”

According to what I’ve heard and tried with my Warrior and Thief (yeah I have those characters also, strange, right? ) Thief is faster on shorter distances (his speed is more bursty because no CD on #5 shortbow), but Warrior is faster on longer distances, quite a bit…
And Ele is screwed in both scenarios, period.

idk but my thief ran way faster then warrior when opening maps. i think it was sword, signet of shadowstep and endurance, withdraw, sb, initiative on signet use and shadowstep, remember to use steal too ofc
sword2 and signet can both be used on monsters of any range(thats two sb5 with close to no ini use), signet also grants initiative on use so more sb5, dodge swiftness and stuff

It was nerfed because back in the day ele was kind of like hambow warrior in spvp. It was too good at everything. The nerf was actually needed back then, but they just kept nerfing eles over and over and now they are in a really bad place :/ To be more clear about why RTL in specific was nerfed: it was an extremely strong disengage skill on a very short cooldown. Rush doesn’t move you as far/fast, and thieves do not have near as much tankiness as eles did at the time so they need the teleports more. If an ele got outplayed and was losing a fight, he could just cast a chill and RTL out with ease, and you could basically never kill them so they would just rotate between two points, spike, and leave.
I ll explain it way better..

This is it. It’s a pvp thing – which the entirety of the game is about. The ONLY balancing considerations are whether someone could move the orb faster than others, or control two nodes at once. Every other aspect takes a far and distant third place.

Oh yea, that pvp map True. That was reason for second RTL nerf.
I still hope they will reverse it one day. RTL was main reason that I choose to play Ele in beta, seems so fun back then.

Well, If you burn all things that can move (even the utilities), I guess it’s possible, especially when the basic ini regen was boosted yesterday. That kinda invalidates my opinion about mobility of the warrior, but Warr is still the second best in the mobility terms, which is sick…
ANet: Please split RTL functionality so it’s 20 sec c/d outside of sPvP for all scenarios!
I use it purely to engage in WvW, but it only takes one dodge and now I’m out of my mobility for twice as long. The dodge was already rewarded by not taking damage from the RTL skill — why should it be double rewarded by 2x’ing my c/d?
The sad part is RTL nerf just got the opposite result.
You can still use RTL to escape…. you can t afford using it to engage…..

Distance needs increasing too, or alternatively change the name too Ride The Sneeze. I certainly don’t prefer the later but I’m sure laughter will ease the pain.

RTL is a pretty bad escape tool. I can’t think of class that cant catch you or keep hitting from range.

RTL is really good for escape… When it’s available. In fact, you can say it’s a bad escape tool because of the unreliabilty of the cd. And even with that, it’s not so bad. But 40 sec cd is annoying.
