Ranged damage?
There was a point in time where we were supposed to be versatile, but something happened and now that belongs to warriors.
Yep, we were supposed to be versatile, but after all the nerfs, we ended up being in a very poor situation, where we have this versitility, supposedly, but its really weak so it doesn’t account for anything anymore.
There was a time when elementalist was versatile and good, and the strenght of the class was defined by player skill, but now at this point the class is extremely sub-par, and the player skill factor only helps you a bit, get up to par with other classes, even then – other classes do what an very skilled elemenentalist can, with little to no effort, while we have to be literally veteran players.
EDIT: I’ll just say this, a new elementalist player will get rolled by each and every class, PvP is not very enjoyable, so deal with PvE till 80.
Versatile…i’ve heard of that word.
Maybe when they game came out and they said ’ Any class can fit any role!’. No holy trinity!..
But then they gave everyone different hp and armour totals and expected a class with 8k less hp and 300 less armour to have the same levels of tankiness as a warrior?
Btw, if you wanted decent ranged damage for PvP, use Fiery Great Sword, with 10 points into Fire traits, to increase the amount of charges on conjured weapons.
Otherwise we have really poor AA with anything else.

But then they gave everyone different hp and armour totals and expected a class with 8k less hp and 300 less armour to have the same levels of tankiness as a warrior?
Exactly, i strongly dissagree how Anet treats elementalists, we should have much more damage if they stripped us of everything else, i wouldn’t complaint if i could see 5,000-10,000 damage numbers in PvP as an elementalist, but thats not happening, most i ever saw my elementalist crit was like 5,000, with full CRT gear.
Which is really nothing, coming from the fact that it was with the Nr5 D/D spell, which has like 40 seconds CD.
When thiefs,warriors, rangers,ect crit on a daily basis like that with spammable skills and auto attacks.

I actually crit a 10k churn bomb in PvP the other day. Be mindfull that was on a Mesmer probably very classy.
Edit: That’s only a 30 second cooldown. Yes I know it very diffuclt to land but I still did it once at least =)

Are you sure you did not crit with Earth while he was downed? Because when a character is downed, they do no benefit from armor bonuses.

I am positive because it downed him and to my luck he was using the treb at the time so that’s probably why I hit him

As I stood there getting hit by a mesmer greatsword auto from 1200 away noting it it for 600-1k a tick I thought, arn’t eles meant to be the true casters of this game?
My fireballs easily surpass that, critting for as much as 1400. Also, unlike the greatsword, they don’t get weaker at short ranged.
And finally, our auto attacks are only filler skills for our dps. For mesmers, it’s pretty much all their dps. Most staff eles will constantly use their #2 (which in my case do 3-4k damage crits) skills and only resort to auto attacks when they have to.

Realistically they should have faster, spammable ranged damage.
If a thief catches you unaware at melee then you should be the dead one, if you catch him unaware at ranged then he should be the dead one. Currently if you have a staff equipped and a thief sees you, it’s over. Coming from playing a thief, the only thing easier than killing an ele, was a staff ele.
And scepter autos…don’t even start with that, fire auto attack, a 1 1/4 cast time? Truthfully, has anyone ever switched to scepter, cast phoenix and whatever else is on 4+5 and then thought, maybe i’ll get in a few autos…..? I didn’t think so.
Then dagger auto attacks, we all know that air is the only one worth using, out of all four atunements using anything but air is just such a huge drop in dps.
So if you’re going to keep the elementalist such a punching bag for everyone, at least make them more dangerous at range without having to be absolutely paper.
Sounds exactly like the Warrior forums a year ago. Just wait for the next balance patch, and I’m sure Eles will be on the QQ list for months to come.

Yea got a staff casting Fire autos definitely beats a mesmer with staff and auto’s by far. It’s also more then 1200 range on fire auto I would say its about 1500.
When I think caster I think staff. But as far as Mesmer and greatsword go I out damage that with fireball which also has a little aoe radius to it hitting more then 1 person. Might need to move some points and grab some real damage on staff. I like 20/30/0/10/10 on Staff either 30 fire or 30 air. Easily outdamage greatsword auto attack but it is easier to dodge at range.

Autoattacks are the main problem. Most of the Ele #1 skills are too weak, which forces you to constantly attunement dance not just for accessing different utilities but even to maintain reasonable DPS, which is altogether stupid.
