Ready for May patch!
where did you saw this? Everybody is talking about the nerf on ele, but haven’t see the patch note yet :-s
Maybe he is hoping for the signets buff to save us somehow. It would be nice to have a stunbreak or two in signets or something else.
The sotg only talked about nerfs and how people “cry” about ele’s and how they are “bringing ele’s down”.
I’m personally saving up gold to craft an alt to 80 depending on what gets buffed.

Rocking Wizard Wars until this mess of a game is fixed…
Signet of Earth is arguably the only signet that falls into their category of signets that buff a single stat so that should get buffed. Given that they did say that the actives of said signets will also get buffed, perhaps we will see something like a 5s immo or bleed stacks or something. I don’t think it will be strong enough to warrant using signets but we’ll see.
They will most likely buff Signet of Fire as well.
That’s the exact attitude everyone should have Cero. I understand it is very hard for some people to adjust to changes that take them out of their comfort zone or out of their usual playstyle but that’s how mmorpg and even individual real life evolve. Bring the new challenge, we can overcome them and be even better.
The point isn’t in the minor changes that takes out some build(like in this case the heal build, that i think wont come out of the picture), the problem is the global change that affects all builds: RtL.
The problem here is the wvw: It puts the ele on the line with the rest of the slow professions without any reason in it. There wasn’t any announced skills on other professions that will have double cd if they miss, so basicly the devs say: “Its ok wars/thiefs to be able to escape bad situations, but we don’t want the elementalist to also be able to do so”.
I don’t mind any minor changes(besides eles’ heals got nerfed twice already) but not and global ones. Challenges like: “be able to handle all professions” are out of the question – such ones will be found, but here is a “Challenge” for you: figure out how to be almost as fast as thief/war like until this nerf. I’ll be really interested to see how it goes.
an ele player ready to adapt…rather than cry about that change…i applaud u good sir
If they make the staff viable, they can smack the D/D ele’s into the earth for all I care. Everyone knows the spec has too much going for it. (Yes, I think gutting RtL is the wrong way to go, but, whatever.)
I think we all knew that nerfs were going to happen sooner or later. I do absolutely hate the mist form nerf, it better only be for PvP. Healing during mist form was one of the best aspects of it, classes like mesmer, guardian, engineer, and warrior can heal up while being invulnerable.
where’s your outrage? this class will COMPLETELY UNPLAYABLE once the new patch is introduced? why do you want us eles to work hard to come up with a new build or to adapt these changes? seriously!
can’t we eles enjoy spvp easymode forever?

Eh, unless they ninja-buff signets to make them stun-breakers, I don’t see any new builds becoming viable – believe me, I’ve spent a LOT of time trying to make unorthodox builds work.
You won’t have to look very far for a replacement to cantrip bunkers. This change is barely going to touch them and they will still be in about the same place.
Everyone else got screwed.
we may consider whether or not there is an incarnation of [ele] that would be viable
but balanced. For now, we do not expect it to see serious use.” – ANet
There’s nothing new to come up with to fix the new mobility problem.
It’s not like we can switch to offhand focus or staff to replace offhand daggers new kitten the lightning.
I was already ready, since i almost don’t play dd anymore since January (D/F now), i can still heal while being invincible with a focus.
The main problem will be the sigil of energy nerf, as it will get a nerf but we don’t know what yet.

Just roll as many classes as possible, that way when they Nerf the one you’re on you can switch to another… Warriors will never be nerfed…. they seem to get buffed eternally.
80 Ranger (3), 80 Warrior (3), 80 Thief (3)
80 Ele (2), 80 Engi (3), 80 Rev (2)
signet build + fire aura on signet use. perma prot and swift and fury and signets will be twice as powerful as before
Wow, a player actually willing to shift with the times, not feel depressed about the nerf, AND is inspiring others to press on with other possibilities?
I’ve just, like, never seen that.
That’s…. that’s like a unicorn!

signet build requires 30P in earth → condition build useless for eles (especially for pvp)
also 30P earth, 10 air and 20 fire → max. 10P arcana, which is not enough for pvp → also means you will have zero defense except earthshild from earth trait (no points in water for vit and heal, no condition remove, no self-heals, no regen, no vigor, …)
I am actually some what excited. Time for some new build to come out, im pretty excited to see what the community will come up with to work around the new changes.
No need to workaround, because there is nothing to work around. The changes has no impact whatsoever on top level viable builds.
Dagger off-hand remains the only viable weapon choice, far ahead of Focus and Staff. x/x/x/30/30 remains the only viable trait setup base. If anything, it gets slightly more locked in place by cementing the requirement for condition removal via Evasive Arcana. Cantrips remain the only viable option for utility outside of specialty builds.
Or did you expect that these changes would make going deep water bad? If so, then you are just kidding yourself. Deep water is obligatory for the minor traits alone. And a small internal cd won’t remove Cleansing Waters from the top 10 major trait list, nor will it have a huge impact Soothing Disruption. The frontloaded Vigor and Regeneration are enough to carry that trait.
A signet aura build only requires 20 in fire, 10 in air, and maybe 10 in earth. That’s 40 total. You can put the remaining 30 into water for aurashare, or 20 in earth for written in stone and 10 in, say, arcana. Or 20/ 20 water/ arcana, and scrap earth. Written in stone is not that good.

written in stone is for sure necessary if you want to play a signet build … otherwise the signets are just plain inferior to cantrips
Written in stone will be worth more after they buff the passive effects to 180 in a stat. The build isn’t too amazing overall though, just a change of pace.
alright guys, its offical. I started the race to day to find new builds. I did cheat a little and started playing around with them 3 days ago
I gave the OP a +1, as should everyone I feel.

The problem with written in stone is that the passives aren’t impressive, and the point of using signets is mostly for the aura’s boons. If cantrips are better than signets? Without a doubt. But signets have as many good traits for themselves as cantrips do. With meaningful passives, written in stone is going to be better.

And to Anet all i have to say is: look in attachments
Dude there’s tons of builds out there that you can use, no need for a challenge!
Unfortunately, they’re all massively sub-par compared to cookie cutter D/D spec, and as far as anyone knows the patch isn’t buffing any other weapon or any utility to compete. In fact, the known intended nerfs actually hurt non D/D builds more than D/D itself, again counter to Anet’s stated intent.
The challenge will be to not switch to Thief in despair.
If you run one of those 20/10/30/0/10 signet builds, it better be with geomancers freedom and melandru runes, because you have like no condition clearing. Unfortunately that means not being able to pick up signet mastery for cooldown reduction since your 3 earth selections must be geomancer’s freedom, elemental shielding, and of course written in stone.
Would be neat in WvW, since you could add in the minus condition food too.
I won’t be surprised if the -condition food is next up on the food nerf table though. I can’t see lemongrass poultry soup staying as it is long term. That entire family of minus condition duration food will probably end up having the numbers cut.

The challenge will be to not switch to Thief in despair.
Thieves’ burst is getting equally nerfed, and their new buffs are intented to change their playstyle or offer them new playstyles. It might be a good patch to thieves who want to experiment a lot more stuff, but backstab muggers are getting nerfed.
Likewise, the new warrior’s buffs are meant to make them viable in pvp, or create new playstyles too. Doesn’t seems to affect them anywhere else (so far).
The only profession that seems like it’s going to be clearly buffed is the Ranger.

Right, because nothing says nerf like being able to steal for 1 Initiative cost an Ele’s 20 stacks of Might benefitting from Arcana’s boon duration increase and boon duration runes that so many Eles are currently geared with.
Or the ability to combine D/P heartseeker in blackpowder stealth combos with even more mobility, allowing them to roam further in combat, and get off more backstabs.
I mean, just look at the language used. Thieves are getting a little of their overall burst reduced, Elementalist will get “slapped” due to their favor in PvP and WvWvW (which follows PvE rules for any that are confused). So Thieves are getting new and interesting options available, while Ele players are being punished big time for ANet’s own balancing incompetence.
Yeah, fills me with so much confidence in the SOTG.
